I reside within Pennsylvania and we are in the middle of a major snow storm. My area has seen probably a foot and a half of snow easily. By the end of the storm we're predicted to have 18" to 24" of snow right now. The storm is also going to continue until sometime in the afternoon, around 4pm. It is currently 9:44 am as I am typing this.
I'll have to get some pictures and post them somewhere and add them to this blog later. It is pretty insane. The snow is very heavy and wet so the trees and plans are bowing very badly. It's quite a pretty sight through my back yard so I'll have to post some pictures up at some point.
To even begin shovelling this morning I had to trudge through the back snow to get to my shovel in the garage and then shovel my way back to the house. I am also having to shovel down my front steps (currently taking a break) because I am unable to walk around my house due to all the snow.
I've heard DC and areas to the south and east are getting even more snow and will be in the storm longer. This snow is setting records in my area for snowfall and I wouldn't be surprised it it was setting records elsewhere as well. Guess I get a day off work today and get to watch the TSL broadcast live!
I hope everyone else caught in this storm is staying safe and with power (over 80,000 people in my area at least do not have power).
lol I live in Midwest (Nebraska), and my job is to monitor VZ reps and give them feedbacks and stuff....I came to work this morning...turn the computer on...connect to east coast server to find out who is working...I found 2 agents currently working...lol and I can hear them talking about getting 2 foot of snow..that's a lot of snow :p it's gonna be a slow day today :p
I live in Philly and yeah, it's pretty ridiculous out. The first thing I noticed when I woke up was how quiet it is…the snow absorbs noise and keeps people/cars off the streets. I need to go out later to run some errands, should be cool to walk around the city while it's deserted like this.
I just looked outside my window and my car is camouflaged along with the other cars on my street. I can just barely see some tire, but I'm sure that'll be completely nija-fied as it is still snowing.

- Reporting in from Pittsburgh, ^^
Go Pittsburgh! That's where I am located too. I just shot some pictures with my phone. I'm going to get them uploaded and I'll edit the original post soon with them.
I'm in Southern Maryland. It's still coming down at the moment but from what I gather some southwestern winds are supposed to push the storm back down our way for a second pass around the middle of the week. The worst of it was southwest of me (I heard east-bound Route 66 was shut down). We're being hit pretty hard too though. I dug my car out last night to move it from the street to the driveway and again this morning to get it out of the driveway. I managed to make it all the way to work only to get stuck in the parking lot.
I usually work the night shift (I'm a dispatcher) but I'm covering for a coworker that lives on backroads that probably haven't even seen a plow yet. If the county is plowing we're working through an SoE. State of Emergency definitely applies too! All across the board here I'm receiving power & phone line outages and absolutely nothing is opening. One of the warehouses we monitor actually collapsed about an hour after I got on the clock. It sucked having to relay that information to the owner. They have three or so more that we monitor and the snow is still coming down. I really hope those ones hold up.
I'm in for a long shift.
I'd take some pictures but I only have a camera phone and there is literally nothing to see anyway. I imagine all that the little 1.3 megapixel camera would pick up is white and glare.
it is up to my belly in some areas... our deck was even overflowing (above 3 feet) Insanity ><
At least we still have power though, my poor Uncle in Westminster (MD) has had no power since 6am, and will be stuck there for several days it looks like. I tunneled a path from the porch to the driveway, but not sure where to go from there lol..
I live about 10 minutes from Dulles Airport (about 35 minutes West of Washington D.C) which reported 32.4 inches of snow by the time it ended around 6pm tonight.
gives u an idea of how massive the snowbanks are getting. I climbed this one in the middle of a intersection of a typically busy road and it was desolate at 4pm this afternoon.
Every time I see things like this I am happy that I live in a country where we are totally prepared. Every car is forced to get winter tires, every road is ploughed, almost every walkway is sanded etc.
I miss the days when I was younger where school would be out and we'd just have snowball fights and build forts all day in the snow. We'd then go home and drink hot chocolate with no worries of that giant report looming
So I'm just curious... What is the approximate inches of snow you guys in your areas need to get things canceled such as school or work? Post inches and your area.
In Saint Louis,Missouri it's about 3-5 inches of snow I would say. Snow in our area renders tire treads useless. : (

Me too! The last time snow got me out of school for a significant period of time was the snowstorm we had in 96' and I was about ten at the time. I was thinking if I can dig my car out of the parking lot I might go home, build a mound of snow and hollow it out how myself and some of the other neighborhood kids used to. Of course I'll have to build it a bit taller this time around x_x
Where I live, this basically happens weekly. Except that since we prepare for it, we put salt and dirt and crap all over it improve traction for cars. So not only do we get horrible amounts of snow, it's all brown and disgusting. Such is life for 6 months of the year.
