Well, I suppose I could start with this... I went to the most amazing concert last night. Holy shit. If you don't like metal just skip this paragraph. So, me and 4 friends went to see Between the Buried and Me at Sonar in Baltimore. They are by far one of my favorite bands of all time, and seeing them live is always fucking amazing, no surprise there. However, the 3 openers were insane as well. Scale the Summit, Devin Townsend, and Cynic. Unfortunately we were late and missed Scale the Summit and Devin Townsend, but I've listened to their music enough to kind of imagine what it would have been like. Cynic, on the other hand was absolutely RIDICULOUS. I had never heard of these guys and they managed to land 2nd place to Between the Buried and Me? I was astounded at how good they were. Everything was fucking SICK. Of course, doing some research led me to find that their front man/musical director (Paul Masvidal) played with none other than fucking DEATH back in the 90s (another one of my favorite bands, R.I.P Chuck Schuldiner). They played a 45-minute set, which consisted of about 7 songs, and it was amazing. I've been really into prog lately, and these guys I feel push the prog metal genre to new heights.
Wow, so anyway.. then BTBAM took the stage, and... wow I thought the last time I saw them they were unstoppable, and they managed to top that performance this time. They played for an hour and a half non-stop, playing mostly their new stuff (Obfuscation, Swim to the Moon, Ants of the Sky, etc..), but they threw in some olllld stuff too (More of Myself to KILL, amazing song). These guys are like, technically perfect. So anyway, I was sick unfortunately (still am) but I stayed in the mosh pits anyway because they were insane. Sonar is a very tiny place and like every inch of this place was packed full of people. During the encore song (White Walls.. 14 minutes of fucking awesome) the crowd went INSANE. There were like 20 people crowd surfing simultaneously and about 5 different mosh pits. White Walls has a very melodic section for about 4 minutes that leads up into one of the most awesome breakdowns ever... so during the 4 minutes everyone was just getting ready (step out of this closed off circle...repeat repeat repeat, then he says get out of this closed off circle INSIDE (inside is screamed))... the entire crowd jumped in the air simultaneously and just went fucking insane. I have never felt such energy at a concert before. Ahh man good times.

That was a bit... long-winded. In other news, following up my last blog (http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=109437) I did it... and shit ended up great. No one at work cares (get a little teasing but it's whatever) and the girl turned out to be awesome. She's into nerdy things and we've actually watched some starcraft together lol. And well, we're sort of dating but both of us have relationship issues so we don't really talk about it.. it's kinda interesting, but whatever (btw fuck you arb). Turns out she's a great cook and makes me food (fucking awesome), and she even cleaned my room (also fucking awesome). But yeah, we have a lot of fun together.. not going into too much detail here.

Work has also been great, everyone I work with is cool as shit (I went to above concert with people from work), and I feel like I'll probably have lasting friendships from this place , which... is almost impossible for me normally. The pay sucks, but the people are awesome, which is way more important at this stage in life (and I have a side project that makes me decent money, so whatever).

A guy I work with is an insane drummer, and we have very similar tastes in music, so we're talking about starting a band, which is something I've wanted to do for a long time, and tried a few times but it's always failed because of lack of similar tastes. We also met a sick guitarist the other day who's interested in joining as well, so that's good, all we need is a singer/bassist and we'll be good to go. On a side note: I've actually rediscovered playing guitar. I used to play classical guitar quite well, but I had serious wrist issues which forced me to give up playing, and I never had the drive again. But, being around all this musical stimulation (talking, concerts.. etc) I actually want to play again, which honestly feels like my life has meaning again.

And, finally, school. Finishing up 2 degrees next semester which is going to be the most amazing feeling (computer science/math if anyone is interested). Too bad they're only associates degree's but I'm excited nonetheless. I was going to TU but my college fund ran dry and my student loans got declined, so I had to go back to community college for a year to get everything settled. In the spring I may go back to TU to finish up my BS degrees (would take another year and a half... ugh) or maybe go into the military, I don't really know yet. All I know is, for the first time in 15 years of going to school I can see an end in sight (albeit, a temporary one) and that feels great. I eventually intend on getting a masters at least in computer science and possible a phd, but I fully intend on starting a career or doing SOMETHING first/in tandem with.

I'm really tired and sick atm, and I'm gonna go sleep now. Thanks for reading this long rambling bullshit if you did. Peace.
