Alright, so my 360 'red ringed' this morning. I went to turn it on and got an error code 'E 73' when I went to turn it on.
Reading up on it, I see that while it IS a form of the red ring, it's not covered by the Warranty (wtf?) and apparently i'm going to have to pay to get it fixed, although I haven't yet contacted Customer support.
I've never dropped my 360, it's always sat vertically, and I've always done my best to keep the thing in perfect condition.
Has anyone had any sort of experiences with this error code? I've tried all the fixes on the Microsoft site, but I haven't tried any of the 'overheating' methods for fear that I might void my 3 year warranty which I may be able to get if I contact them.
Advice anyone? I'll be contacting customer support in the next day or two but i figured I'd ask to see if anyone else has had this problem.

E73 is covered by the warranty. If your warranty has expired you'll need to pay $150 and shipping to get have it repaired by Microsoft. If you want to attempt to fix it by yourself because your warranty is expired, there's numerous guides to do so. Just run a search on "xbox 360 e73 fix".

Erm, I guess I should've made it more clear. I'm outside of my 1 year warranty, but still within the 3 year one for the 'red ring' errors.

Just call microsoft 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Or go to their website. Everything you need to know you can find there. I know you need to get your own box to ship it to them in now but you should be fine otherwise.

Very rarely will you have to pay for a RR error. My box RR'd loong after the warranty and because it was an RR error, they replaced it, free of charge. Go online, fill out the form and have them ship you the coffin (what we call the boxes you return them in) and the shipping sticker. They pay for everything.
If you do have to pay for the repair, however, you're better off just buying a new box. Don't risk messing with it (other than the towel trick) and just let them take care of it.

I'll be honest with you, your kinda screwed. I don't know about if you have to pay or not, but Microsoft is absolutely THE WORST at doing these repairs. So many people complain about them. When my XBox RRoD'd (I believe it was also an error that "wasn't covered", but we never ended up paying) it took them over 2 months to send us one back, and that one defected within a week of play. So we had to send that one back, and after approximately one month they sent us the one we have now. And throughout that the HDD managed to get wiped out, but I have no idea why that happened o.o So basically, don't expect this to be an easy process, they are terrible at dealing with repairs.

I've got the form completely filled out, although I'm not sure which to select, I have a bunch of options, but the only two free ones are 'Error Code E 74' and 'Three red lights flashing'. I'm sure it's the same thing more or less, but I was just curious which one would be better.
They also say "if your console hasn't logged an E 74 offer, we will offer to repair your xbox for a price. At that point do I start bitching the guy out and tell them to repair it for free?

Yeah, I know about how terrible Microsoft is. I can't really afford a new box right now though due to being a poor college student :/. As long as they'll repair it for free and it can work a couple months until I can get a new one this summer I won't care.

Register your Xbox and check if they'll do it for free. Make sure you don't send the HDD in there too; they'll wipe it if you do.

Come on, buy a PS3 and you will be happy forever :D
