If you don't want to make the effort to get in, then I guess they don't want you there :p CSheep is wrong! They just updated their ratio system, and it isn't as hard to maintain a surviving ratio as people make it out to be. I'm sitting at .23 while my required ratio is 0.19. It's not hard to keep an account alive, but to become a power user or something there is definitely effort required.

As far as I know, there aren't any invites that get you in instantaneously. Seeding is amazing and I would be surprised if you could not find what you are looking for. And if by some chance you can't, you can always request and sometimes/usually someone will be able to upload it. In short, it is well worth it if you can get in but don't just be a leecher. Actively seed 24/7 (which isn't very difficult) and you should be fine.

I just use like...random sites + DC for classical now. I mean, what.cd is still good, and it has the added bonus of being a private site so you probably won't get RIAA owned for anything. It's just really hard to get in + kind of a pain to maintain a ratio on a site where almost no one downloads.

In relation to your blog post, I don't think you will get in judging by what you said about the interview. Even if you were to miraculously get in, I don't really think you would be a good user. What is not for everyone, and that's putting it lightly.

I searched through my mommy's entire music collection (200+ albums easily) and couldn't find 1 thing that wasn't uploaded already. I've had no trouble uploading most of my album collection, but part of the reason for that is most of them are either; A) not available for download anywhere B) incredibly hard to find so you can download them I only upload music that I own anyway, for quality assurance. ^_^ So I guess you're mostly outta luck. + Show Spoiler + This is prolly against the rules, but since I barely use what.cd I can rip some albums that I haven't uploaded yet in flac and send them to you so you may upload them yourself if you want ![]()

I really wouldn't say there was anything else. What.CD is great at finding rare or obscure stuff. Take this for an example, I wanted to download some albums from an Argentinian band called Miranda! I checked isohunt.com and thepiratebay to no avail. I popped in that name on what.cd and got a hit for an album and downloaded it. As said What.CD allows you to choose quality ranging from FLAC to MP3(192 or 320) and other types of quality that I can't explain, because I don't know what they are. Random question. I usually download MP3-320. Should I go for FLAC or is there hardly a difference?

Most music starts sounding like a lossless rip, assuming it wasn't transcoded from a lossy format, at 192 kb/s with LAME 90% of what.cd users use LAME so v0 is usually just fine for most music. Plus since it's vbr the size will generally be smaller than cbr, without loss of sound quality unless you have superhuman ears. Plus, as mentioned before this post, sound systems play a big role. If you use speakers of any kind I wouldn't recommend flac tbh. High quality headphones on the other hand might show some difference, but it would be pretty minor between 320 and flac.

I've always wanted an account in these communities, but after reading the posts in this thread, I'm satisfied with Demonoid. I don't even know why I wanted to use anything but Demonoid. It's pretty easy to find any somewhat popular albums on there, and in plenty of different qualities. And it's not so Nazi-ish with its rules.

one thing that requires clarification here is how are they able to provide such ridiculous content while putting mad restrictions on who can be a part of the community?! Logic tells me that more users ==> more uploads ==> more seeding ==> more content ^.^

I buy the FLAC so I can transcode to v0 and upload that as well. If I feel I can get more out of it I'll transcode a V2 and 320 as well. People complaining about ratio just don't get it. I buy music that isn't on the site, I give back to the community. In return, the community gives back, with great rips, multiple formats and a large userbase on which I can get new music suggestions. I get to spend money supporting my favorite artists and discover new music and genres. What.cd is fantastic and I hope for the site that it continues to draw quality users who give back to the community. It's what makes what so fantastic!
