I've been doing quite a bit of drinking for the past couple of months now, usually 3-4 times a week with friends and also when I go clubbing.
Naturally, my alcohol tolerance skyrocketed. I used to get hammered off of 2-3 beers, but now I can down 7-8 beers or 6-7 straight shots and still keep a cool head.
Lately, for the past month or so, not only have I been drinking more and more socially with friends, but I also started drinking by myself especially after dinner. I always keep some beers or low % vodka in my fridge, and I feel the urge to drink almost daily.
After realizing this, I was alarmed that I was fast becoming an alcoholic, so I gave away all my booze to a friend and tried to stay sober for the past 3-4 days. So far so good, but I get irritated easily, have trouble sleeping, and constantly feel anxious without some alcohol in my system. Just now I lost to BBS cheese when I 12 nexus'ed, and I smashed my keyboard on the desk as opposed to just typing GG and asking for a re like I normally do.
Good thing I was still in the early stages of alcoholism, so another week or two should dry me up for good.
From someone who thought the taste of any alcoholic drink was absolutely revolting to a recovering alcoholic, allow me to say, Drinkin's bad m'kay.

I solo drink daily for the most part. Today an exception as I worked midnights and woke up as all the liqour/beer stores were closing but I took morphine to get exist sobreity a little bit. Urges are always there and I fell into this kinda habbit of being fucked up on something (whatever I'm hooked on changes after awhiles use of the same thing) when I was like 19 and I'll be 23 next month.
I feel like I'm at the end of a long tunnel wanting to get better, !_! it just feels shitty after so long. I feel like I will rid myself of this shit soon though and that my mentality towards quitting is getting stronger and more resolved.

My friend has repeatedly stated the only reason he runs so much and works out hard is so he can continue to abuse drugs and alcohol like crazy. But I do agree with you.

Good job for cutting yourself off, but I think if you are going to kick this habit permanently (or avoid simply getting addicted to something else) you will need some support, like a sponsor or even just a group meeting once in a while. Consider it, if you start having trouble again. Good luck!

How old are you? When I was younger I drank a lot everyweek, but I grew out of it and now I may have a beer or two after work, but I don't just drink to get drunk like kids do.

it's a lot worse when you start getting drunk off 3 beers again means your liver has gotten really fucked up i stopped drinking right after new years since thats what started to happen

My advice, if you really are a alcoholic, you are always a recovering alcoholic, you really need to knuckle down on weakness.

Remember, alcoholism is not like any other disease where you can stop, rest, and recover for a few weeks and then you can go back to drinking. If you are an alcoholic, you an alcoholic for life. There's no amount of time that can cure it. I've known too many people who have stopped drinking for 10, 15, or even 25 years and one relapse sent them back down to rock bottom.
I don't know if you an alcoholic or not but if you decide to drink again and find yourself back in the same situation you were a few days ago, it might be a good idea to seek help.

GL OP. All I can say is after a few months you'll feel like you've conquered it, and someone will maybe offer you a drink or it'll be just some gift sitting on your table. Don't touch that drink. For people who get into the habit of drinking daily, it's all or nothing and you'll be back to drinking daily if you drink at all. I think I blame Canada's excessive drinking culture for that. It's hard to turn down drinks if you don't turn them down every time.

Drinking by yourself is a waste of money. Alcohols a social drug, so use it socially. Drink when with friends and if getting way too drunk is an issue then just only take a certain amount of cash out with you. I usually just take enough for 8 or 10 pints plus a taxi home. Works out for me. Also consider just doing shouts. That way you only drink as much as your mates.

i dont know if i believe this whole "once an alcoholic, always an an alcoholic".
Alcoholism runs in my family, and they certainly haven't been able to practice consistent control over their drinking, but i've found myself with a little more tenacity and a lot more success.
I don't know what technically defines you as an alcoholic, but my 'homespun' definition is: when you drink to a point where you are unable to control how much more you drink. This was definitely the case for me about 2 years ago. When i would start drinking i wouldn't stop until passing out. I was blacking out for 1-2 hours a night, 3 nights a week.
I had a few nasty experiences that woke me the fuck up. I came home one time covered in bruises, clothes torn, and a fair bit of blood on me, and didn't remember a single thing from the night before; 'had a few run-ins with other drugs while drunk; etc.
In anycase, i drink nearly as often as i did 2 years ago, but now i retain control almost always. Once i start to feel 'drunk' i switch to singles (instead of doubles) if i begin to feel more drunk i completely switch to water. I think i've had like 1 blackout in last 9 months or so? I mean, i drink almost every day of the week. Usually stick to vodka w/ soda to try to be a bit healthier? haha
Perhaps now that i have control over my mental state while drunk i should start considering my liver. lol
