Every Sunday I go out with my day to Carnegie, a state vehicular recreation park to go dirtbiking. Today we were greeted at the gate with some bad news, a lawsuit is being filed against the park.
Apparently tons of dirt is being taken off the hills from all the hillclimbs and is going into a creek bed at the base of the park. The park is being sued by 2 groups, one of which is the California Sportfishing Protection Alliance, whose members claim to have driven by the park and "observe turbid and polluted water within Corral Hollow Creek as the creek flows along the length of the Carnegie SVRA."
Guess what. THERE'S NO FUCKING WATER IN THE CREEK WTF? I have no idea why the would file a lawsuit claiming pollution in the creek when there is no water in it.
Apparently they are also suing Carnegie because the condition of all the ground water is really terrible, there are heavy metals and other nasty things in it. But then again, Carnegie is literally right across the road from the Lawrence Livermore test site 300. I think this link will speak for itself when you scroll down to the "Threats and Contaminants" section.
Carnegie closed down parts of the creek from riding today and just had a few entrance points, all of which were bridges across the creek to prevent damage to the "creek." I really don't care about this decision, the riding in the creek was really fucking shitty anyways (way too rocky and completely flat). But this didn't stop the environmentalists, they still want to close the park. And it will be closed temporarily (hopefully) starting December 29th.
I'm just so pissed off because Carnegie is such an awesome place and I don't want to see it go
If you want to help go to http://carnegieforever.org/ and sign the online petition (don't sign more than one, please). There are also some links at the bottom for more information.

Yeah, it is terrible when there are suspicions that you pollute ground water to sue you, I mean, come on, who needs water?

There was probably water in the creek when the lawsuit was first written up, these things don't take a day to write you know

Ground water, by definition, is underground.
It is a source of drinking water. Creek water (yes I see you say there is no water in the creek..check again in the spring please and let us know if there is still nothing there!) may not directly supply drinking water but pollution is still an environmental concern. My guess is that your creek is seasonal.
You come off as pretty biased and you expect everyone to agree with you - it is a shame that your dirtbiking has been put on hold, but you should educate yourself so that you can more adequately determine whether or not this claim is actually the load of BS you believe it to be.

Ironically enough the people who want to get the park shut down think the exact same thing when it's open

of course i am biased, i admitted it at the end of my post when i said i was just angry because carnegie might get closed.
and, i was probably a little unclear in my first post, but carnegie is getting sued by two groups. one group said they saw polluted water on the surface (there is none, the creek is not seasonal, this isn't the only reason they are suing carnegie though) and the other group is suing carnegie for having ground water contaminated by heavy metals etc when they are right across from a government weapons testing site which uses some pretty nasty things (depleted uranium)

That seems frustrating, but maybe both the park and the testing site are sources of the pollutants in question. Perhaps they are attacking both sources, or perhaps they just picked what they perceived to be the easier target. Assuredly, these sorts of issues will be raised and sorted out (for better or for worse).
Good luck with the park.
(Btw, it's probably not correct to associate a sportsfishing protection agency with genuine environmentalists of any kind - they want the fish to stick around so they can kill them..lol. Based on this being their primary agenda, my guess is there was water in the creek when they originally filed (like some other guy said))

yeah, it could be carnegie but i still refuse to believe it :[
and yeah, the sportsfishers aren't environmentalists, but the other group in the lawsuit is an environmentalist group. but i don't really have anything against environmentalists anyways, i'm just pissed off.

Of course I had to comment.
Don't mess with environmentalists. We'll call the fury of the forest on you. Remember the Ents in Lord of the Rings? Yeah.
+ Show Spoiler +But essentially, I echo what other people have said in this thread, sportfishers are not environmentalists, and more information is required. But usually the real villain is not the people who noticed the problem, but the people who caused the issue in the first place, and then the folks who didn't do anything to correct it. Hopefully your park comes out cleaner and better respected.
