I have many passions in life. One of them are flash games. I think the appeal for me is that to make one does not require a large team of programmers and an equally large budget. Above all else they are FREE.
There is an absolute abundance of flash games and flash game portals on the internet. The problem is that most of them are garbage with rehashed ideas of other games and no originality or depth whatsoever. Despite this, there ARE indeed some really great games to be found. The Company of Myself is one of them. The following is my attempt at getting you to play it!
The Company of Myself is at it's foundation a Platform/Puzzle game. Your object in each level will be to get to the green square. You will be using the arrow keys for this (surprise surprise!). Spacebar serves two functions, but once you get to the green square it will only take you to the next level.
I'm not going to bother explaining the entire game to you since it will become pretty obvious once you get through the first 10 or so levels. But I will explain to you what makes this game so crazy. You are literally in the company of yourself. At any time during a level, if you press the space bar, it will cause your character to disappear and go back to the beginning of the level. HOWEVER, there will a "phantom" you who will do EXACTLY what you did prior to pressing the space bar. For example!
Hmm, this platform is too high to jump over. SPACEBAR'DThe phantom walks up to the ledge exactly as I did prior to pressing spacebar. (After I landed of course!)Nice! You can stand on top of your phantoms! They can also stand on you!
You can do this any number of times up to the limit specified in the top left portion of the screen. On levels such as the one above it's quite amusing to just jump around and spam spacebar to watch all the little phantom jumping around to your exact motions. That gets old soon and before long you will want to actually progress through the game. LOL!
At times this game will require you to really think things through, as there will be things such as force-fields that your "present" character can pass through that your "phantom" cannot (as well as the reverse). I will leave the rest of the game for you to discover. It's also probably worth mentioning that the music really sets the mood (even if it's really repetitive).
Probably one of the greatest flash games I have ever played.

A fellow Kongregate-er
I absolutely loved this game, the ending was a little wtf, and the whole story is quite sad.
5/5 from me.

Looks cool. I played N-game for a while and got really good at it. Not quite the same but flash games will always hold a special place in my heart.
|
Reminded me of Braid and I have a feeling it was inspired by Braid as well. Overall a short but enjoyable game.

when i saw "flash game" i was expecting some kind of terran microing xD

Not a bad game, but I got bored of it quite fast though. I guess I'm not much of a puzzle gamer
|
It was OK, kinda short and easy but a nice idea.

Why does this have to come up in every Flash Game thread. ;_;

This badly needs a restart level button or something.

Yeah they should totally make it so that if you press r you restart the level.

i begin to realise you have good taste in flash games!
I think if i praise you, you might post more similar stuff.
This originality is really interesting! :D
|
i just beat it good game, but very easy.
|
I loved the last level though, it was really clever. I wish there would be a bunch more level elaborating on that technique tho + Show Spoiler +mass jumping to make platforms
|
ending story is so sad =(
|
Great concept, but the game was too short.

shit i spent the last hour playing 2 kongregate games FML
|
|
wow, that was a great game. thanks
|
The game play is neat, but the story is so faggy and nerdy
|
There are tons of going back in time games, this one just has a Braid-like feel to it. Theres also a slightly harder one on Kongregate with a time-travelling robot if I remember correctly?
N game rocked, n+ did not.
|
SPOILERS
on the level with just the green forcefield gap and then the green door needing 4 phantoms, that shit lags so bad when they all fall down the pit.
at first i tried to stack 4 up and carry them on my head but they always fell back down to a 3 stack.
Next level, I tried to stack them up slightly to the right each time like a stair case, but realized this doesn't work. Then I just started spamming jumps and holding right and eventually you get across.

The game concept was great, but what made this game good was the storyline used- didn't really see that coming. I thought he was businessman who sacrificed everything for money (green square) and now regrets in his old age.
|
This was a great game... I love the last level, and the backstory.

The game, as I believe all flash games should, was designed completely around a mechanic. This does not work in a "real" game, or you get things like R.U.S.E. and the game just sucks or it won't last.
So props on that. However, everything else is just standard. Standard "twist ending" storyline, standard graphics, etc.
Some games use actual mechanics to tell a story. Those games are the future. This game, however, does not, and is not innovative or creative. It does not deserve its high ranking imo.

kongregate <3 haha loved the last level

How did Jack kill Kathryn? And why? Did this really happen?
I wish they provided more details

They did show how she died :o. + Show Spoiler +It was in one of the levels where it went back to the past (you played as her and jack at the same time), and she had to go on a platform and you had to pull the lever and make her fall into a pit :/. She had to go on that platform to pull another lever to open the way for you.

damn im stuck on the level charlie mentioned lol

Man this was a great game, i love the storyline.
The game doesent really tell how she died excatly but it gives the hint that she probably gave her life to help him out. The man is mentally ill and sees the world in a different light, but she seems to have given her life willingly. I dont know if there is anything to interpret, i guess everyone can make out of the story what they think makes most sense or what they like best.
Anyways great game, thanks alot!

this is one of the greatest game I've played, just wow
I don't think I've had this much fun in a while. The music was perfect, the dialog was perfect, everything was perfect for me
A bit short and has no replay value, but a good game nonetheless!

cool game.. the last level ended up looking like a waterfall of little dudes all jumping off a cliff like lemmings
|
Nice game, not too tedious and interesting story.

Wow, incredible incredible game. I have never seen that idea before.
Thanks for the share!

Sounds like something I've played before so I went ahead and check, Chronotron precedes this game by 1 & ½ years. Definitely not new idea but I'm not sure if Chronotron is a replicate of another game but I remember it won some awards or something. Game itself was addictive at first but once I reach level 15ish I got bored.
Maybe you guys would like to try this Chronotron if you're done playing this game the OP recommended. http://www.kongregate.com/games/Scarybug/chronotron
