To be honest, I'm not really sure. I've run a virus scan and detected nothing, I ran a malware scan and I had found some, including a "backdoor bot". I deleted this yesterday after I realized I couldn't log into MSN through Malware Bytes. (I ran another scan today, it did not detect it).
But on to the story.
So yesterday I attempt to log into MSN (Windows Live), I cannot. It says invalid password. So my hotmail account, NickPerentesis@Hotmail.com either had an error or was compromised. I wasn't sure if it was an error, as I am computer illiterate so while I was scared I wasn't sure if this was the case.
Just an hour earlier, I still cannot log into MSN, but it gives me a different error message, thus giving me hope that it's some problem with Windows Live. However, while I am playing HoN my account information is changed. I immediately log off, and a person called "Rodo" is on my account, or "FleischMan". (When I /whois it when it's offline, it says FleischMan, when it's online, it says Rodo). --> I can no longer log into my HoN account which was previously Testie or [5]Testie. It was changed and replaced. Someone else has my exact PSR and stats though.
Then I log into my poker account (attempt to), which has $10,000+ Canadian dollars in it. Or 9000+ American. And I get the same error message, password problems.
If Smuft or Giyom or Rek or anyone who knows anything about the poker site CarlosPoker reads this and knows someone at Carlos poker, tell them that the poker account from NickPerentesis@Hotmail.com has been compromised. I figure it would be better for them to tell them because I can't log in. (Anyone who knows them with some credibility). I know I shouldn't bother someone else to help me with my problem though.
From this point on, I really don't know what to do. It's late and I don't know how to reformat my comp. But I guess I will have to do it tomorrow.
It just really angers me and makes me feel helpless, a place I do no not like being in. I am not a saint or an angel, as I am often rude to people. But thieves anger me a great deal, as I would never in my life steal from another person let alone destroy them and take a very important e-mail address with a lot of information in it that I deem extremely important. (My e-mail, hon account, and poker account are like the only things I'd even use on my computer... so it feels like I've just been destroyed).
There's probably a 0.00001% chance of getting this guy, but I don't know if after reformatting I should go to the police or what.
Suggestions are welcome, as I feel very lost and am not thinking straight. I want to get this mother fucker though. I don't care if it's 10k or $100 this person robbed. I hate thieves.
I wish I could pray that it was just some virus that fucks with your log-ins. But considering what happened to my HoN account earlier tonight, that seems very unlikely.

I had $1,000 stolen from me a few years back (when $1k was like 2 months of work) and I was quite outraged. I had evidence of who did it 100%, had saved conversations with them confronting them about it (and them confessing) had proof of where the money went with taped conversations with who received the money etc...
In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and let it go while i was on the way to the police station to talk to them about it.

I'm in the process of doing that now, I couldn't log into my other hotmail account, so I am using my Gmail account to fire off an e-mail before it too is compromised I guess.

With the danger of sounding like an asshole, this is why you use different mails for poker than your MSN etc and if you want to be REALLY safe you use different mails for each site. So many people learn this the hard way.

I'm more upset that the thought of this is happening more than money. Of course the money is important, but any e-mail people have trusted me with, is now just out there in the open. I saved tonnes of e-mails over many, many years. It upsets me a great deal.
At the end of this, I hope I can tell a great success story of catching this scumbag.
I just contacted Carlospoker. I am really awaiting a response. I hope they can freeze the funds or do something if they haven't been moved yet. I intend to contact the HoN community tomorrow as well to see if there's any additional information they could bring. If they could get anything like an IP or something from the person using what used to be my name.
And yeah Oystein, I just hated the thought of being inconvenienced to protect myself. It annoys me that we have to take extra precautions in this world because some people are dicks. I just really wish Carlospoker would send me a reply already.

It's kind of a school though so getting answers might take 2-3 days each time (because they get every step checked by a senior member). they're very patient and helpful though.
I'd suggest dling hijackthis and post the log on that forum
btw, msn staff is very helpful even if you suck @ sqa. I had lost both my msn and just like, made a new one and sent tickets explaining the situations and detailing some of the latest emails I had. 2-3 days later I had new passwords sent to me kek

Is there anything else you can do? Could you ask to see if someone tried to send your money to an account, or the IP of the login, may help you trace someone.
I get the feeling this isn't just a random attack; someone clearly planned this for a little while and at least had some basic form of contact with you, imo.
That really sucks man, hope you can tell a great success story of catching the asshole. And I hope he gets his comeuppance.

Try to look for download and just save it on your computer, after that run, then let it look for the goddamn rootkits in your computer. (it will be written in red)
It's also possible that the virus has infected your own AV that's why it can't find any .dll and .exe files regarding the spyware.

If my computer had been infected like this, I would most definately format. Backup important stuff, and reformat if you have that option.
That is my opinion atleast, and I would feel alot safer having reformatted, then just running som antivirus stuff and hoping for the best. It is probably less work to reformat anyways.

yeah you should just call carlos poker or email them with an URGENT as fast as you can - ive never even heard of carlos poker so i doubt anyone will have any good contact with them
also id recommend against playing on sites that dont have multilayered password protection and if you have around 10k online you should be able to afford a second computer just for poker~

Call the people from the poker site, get in contact with them and use your real life identity to get the money back. Get in contact with whoever the heck runs HoN (I play LoL myself) and see if they log IPs and can tell you who was logged onto your account - if so, that might make him traceable. Next, get the cops involved, because 10k CDN is huge.

I also think going thru HoN would be the easiest way to find the dude's IP. In the meanwhile if I were you I'd check your account on other programs/games etc. (eg. garena / starcraft) to narrow the culprit down a bit. Man, you need to get some advice from adults with experience here in real life. Stop looking around on the internet for answers. Call your parents, friends, etc. Talk to a lawyer maybe. Call the police. Work extra hard on finding a number for carlospoker. Why do you even have an account there if you know almost nothing about them and they don't have contact info outside of an email address?
Try doing a whois on their domain to see if there is any contact if there. Look really hard through the site to see if you can find something. Try googling for a phone number. Ask other players who play there if they have contact information. Contact MSN/Hotmail support to see if you can get your account locked down and see if you can get access logs to your account. They probably log IP addresses so they should be able to tell when it isn't you who is logging in. Stop using the infected computer right away. I wouldn't trust virus removal at this point, but I would follow the advice of not formatting until you go to the police or go through an investigation if you are going to do that. Consider taking your computer to a local expert in your area to have it looked at, but again I'd wait until you talk to the police first.
You have lots of options here and paths you can take ... it just depends on how much effort you are willing to put in to get your money back if it was stolen and to possibly catch the person responsible. One thing you will learn in life, is you are the only person who is 100% concerned with you. If you want other people/authorities to help you then you need to push for it as hard as you can. It's very rare that people will push for you just because ... except sometimes family.

I have no idea how in depth the police will investigate matters like this however if they don't, you can always attempt to trace the attacker by using the trojan/keylogger that's on your pc. If you upload a copy of the infected files I'm sure someone could get their IP/hostname and if they were sloppy and didn't use proxies/vpn's then you could forward that info to the police.

I know it's Windows Live now so anyone who knows who I should e-mail about my compromised e-mail at Windows Live / Hotmail, if someone could post an e-mail address for me to write to it would be a huge help.

Seeing how it was presumably a keylogger that he took your passwords with (I guess that was the consensus?), I think it will be pretty hard to get the email account back, seeing how you probably dont really have identity bindings with it, unlike the poker account.
From their point of view, someone logged in to your account with your password, and changed the password. Why would they give the account to someone else claiming its his? Even if you were to rely on things like using your own IP for ages, then now its apparently a different one (if you have a static IP), that is at least shaky. (what if you've been using your friend's pc for two weeks to log into your email account? Can he then claim your account with such reasoning?:-p)
For the same reasons, you will probably not get the IP of the guy from hotmail's provider either.
So I dont see any way to get it back. I hope you prove me wrong though.

I just need to be able to contact Windows Live or Hotmail about the compromised account and see what they can do. I'm quite sure if I could call them, get them to call me, or e-mail them about this problem that I would be able to solve it.

As about hotmail, I'm still not sure if you will be able to achieve many things if he just guessed your pw. (The same reasoning as I stated above. I was thinking of some brute-force password hacking, or sth like that as an exception, this was basically the same: he knew your password.) There should be something about this event in the signing terms of hotmail, someone should read through that...

Hm, try to use a proxy for that link, it might pass by the block. To cheer you up, the page seems to be full of detailed questions, so if you fill it up, I think it shouldn't be a problem getting your email acc back.
Try to get some official confirmation from the HoN admins so you can show this to the MSN/Hotmail staff. (write it on the bottom of the support page)

That's why you never ever use your e-mail-password anywhere else. It is basically your master password. I share my pass for the unimportant websites, like most forums, but e-mail and everything which has money on line has a distinct one.

To tell you the truth, I'm the one that hacked your poker account and I've used 7k spending on foreign broodwar players that were in Korea in the past week. Some like to say thank you, some like to call me a nice guy, but in reality I'm just robin hood. Whether I take the money from you or some random rich idiot does it really matter? NO. It's all about spreading the wealth and feeding the world. But it actually was me.
It's just the cycle of life. Karma guides us everywhere we go. Sometimes bad shit happens like this but it's shit like this that can make you realize how good your life is. I can remember the time where I'd go to a bar with many ppl and all buy drinks and I'd be sitting there like wow I'm pretty sure that guy acting like a baller has us all covered then all the sudden he's asking me for money to pay the bill and it's 50 dollars and obviously I couldn't say no...but then after I paid I'd feel like FUCK MY LIFE I only have 78 dollars left to my name in a foreign country FUCK....repeat process a thousand times to exponential amounts then suddenly one day I lose 300k in one day and it feels nothing more than buying a beer 6 years ago.

Well I'm kinda drunk but over the course of the past week spending that 7k I've been forced to drink every day with the foreign BW sceners in korea and wake up in the morning at 2-5 PM everyday so I've been kinda weird in the head, but realistically I've never felt more clear headed than now.

A representative from carlospoker said so over the phone but I really would like an e-mail back with a complete status report. So now it's just down to hunting this guy and finding the source. Which is rumoured to have come from S2 games. Which is important information as TL has a large amount of HoN users.

I have a friend who is very good friends with the lead game designer at S2 and he says that no S2 accounts have been hacked. Haven't you been having virus problems for a while? I would think it's much more likely that you had a keylogger on your computer.

The funds should still be in my account and frozen I was told over the phone today. He ran through a bit of money, but the bulk of it is still there. Dropped some money in their casino, tried to withdraw $200 or so or something.

I just kind of want a written report with any information they have, I've already e-mailed this to them actually but waiting for a response is kind of killer because I am more eager to get this guy and find out where he is asap. I was told he may have slipped up and given the people at carlospoker some information when the account was frozen, so any information, IP he used, etc while on my account would be a great help. So with a collaboration of different sources, there might be a way to corner this guy.

and about your hotmail issue, check your hostfile for anything strange. typing %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ into run will open the folder then open "hosts" with notepad

Passwords stored on servers should be encrypted so nobody can read them. That's pretty weak from S2 if it's really the case

So basically he now knows that I know where he is and who he is, and even my speculations on where he came from. Sadly this may have compromised an investigation from S2games. But considering I literally told them who the hell it was... I think it should still help if anything.
Therefore I lost my e-mail again.
When I went to the Police they said they couldn't do anything. (despite the fact I literally know what he looks like and a lot of other info on him) because he is from Argentina, Buenos Aires.

It is a great game. Apparently it just has some security issues and server bugs, but for a beta it truly is amazing.
But if you go to it, I strongly suggest the following:
A completely unique password to your HoN account.
Experience in dota (games there are on average quite a bit harder)
Some friends & a vent channel (TL has a readily available vent channel to be used, though not many HoN players use it).
It has a lot of great perks that really ruined public dota play. Some of those things backfire in a sense, but the fact that there are almost 0 leavers alone is great. I can play 100 games and have perhaps one leaver.
