Stargate Universe is set on the Ancient ship Destiny, which was launched nearly a million years ago. Several ships were sent ahead of it to seed the universe with Stargates. The Ancients had planned on using the Stargate to board Destiny when it was far out enough into the universe, but learned how to ascend before that time. In order to reach this ship, an address would have to be dialed consisting of nine chevrons, a possibility that had been unknown in the previous Stargate series.
Does anyone watch this, it is the latest series of the franchise and though I am familiar with the world of Stargate. I have never watched Atlantis, or even most of SG1, but so far I am loving this series, especially since it is not like any of it's predecessors where they go through the gate and an hour later are back home and safe. Some fans hate the series because for the sole reason that it isn't like that. Hopefully the series has a healthy run and isn't canceled.
Stargate + Battlestar Galactica + Lost in Space + Star Trek: Voyager = Stargate Universe.
The reason why some diehard fans hate SGU is because they believe that the company canceled the previous two shows to promote SGU. I've watched the first episode and I can already tell that it holds at least the same quality, if not higher, as the previous shows and I'll look forward watching it.
this show imo potentially is the next epic series like Battlestar, It is absolutely amazing and well worth the watch for any space sci fi fan. Bout to go watch the newest ep in a few minutes.
To give a better idea of how myself,my brother and a few friends view this show, it is battlestar meets firefly, ie the coming of two of the best sci fi space shows of all time. Seriously check this out.
It's too much like BSG. Stargate was more of a family show in the same tradition as star trek.
I don't get how it is anything like firefly? except the group of people on a ship part. BSG was actually intense and well plotted. SGU forces emotion and suspense on the audience.
Every characters on SGU started acting like jerks and five episodes in it's still the same plot, it's like they are just stuck there trying to escape disaster on every episode.
It's like BSG in the beginning of season 4, the survivor theme is getting tiring.

That. and the repetitive life threatening issues that keep popping up, which result in more dog eat dog bickering. Hopefully it gets better and has more aliens and more scenes then on a damn ship where they have no idea what anything is -_-

Eh, I would say that for a beginning to a series where they randomly appear on a ship super old they know nothing about, that isnt a bad start . I'm sure you will get to see the offworld missions soon.
I'm really not feeling it. The last couple seasons of SG1 were a step down from the series, Atlantis was a step down from that, and this seems to go even further down. Right now it feels like they're just milking the franchise.
sg-1 was one of my favorite shows, atleast for the first 6 or 7 seasons. definitely went downhill after that, with season 10 being so bad it was unwatchable.
i tried to like SGU, but i can't seem to really get into it. i don't like any of the characters, unlike sg-1 where i like just about every character on the show heh.
i was hoping for a return to basics with this show, but like others have said, it feels like they're just trying to milk the new sci-fi show trend. guess we'll see though.
watched every sg-1 sga episode, been watching it for years, did not like BSG, do not like SGU for the same reasons, i cant even believe they did this to the stargate series, why not just make another battlestar galactica and leave stargate alone or cancel it, i would rather have them just stop making stargate altogether then do what they did with sgu
i like it, not so much for the acting as for the general setting and production. music and cg is pretty good so far, will prolly get cancelled tho since 90% of their original fans whine cause they changed it from the goofy corny sci-fi feel of the old stargate series. all the sex scenes and romance is really stupid though, and eli's lines are corny as fuck.
Absolutely amazing cliffhanger for the half point of the season. The ending also surprised me. I will be very interested to see how it plays out when it starts up again
Sigh SGU is just disappoint to me, Sci-fi's have been moving more and more into territory of drama thus space opera. I fucking hate space operas if i wanted a good drama i would watch a good drama i don't need sci fi elements to make a drama good it just makes it cheezy.
We never saw at least in major plot really much of anything that could be called space opera in SG1
SG:A did do that for a large part but it was 2ndary to the action and sci-fi
SG:U is just overwhelmed in this shit, i swear every episode they reference a sex scene with a cheezy panning and fade overs. God dammit if you want to make a crappy softcore porn do that don't ruin a good franchise with it.
They said that SGU would be about what is inatly human though a survival kind of premise on the show, that was fine but it's not what i see.
Sci-fi has always been to me sense Star Trek about allegories to human experience as a species not on a personal level. where they would focus on human nature as a whole not pouring over every detail like in a drama.
T_T done venting my disappointment in the show and reading the comments in this blog just make me sad, why the hell do you all just want a show that is a drama by heart but is just so happening in a sci fi based world to me that isn't sci fi it's just a darma.
The episode that amazed me the most so far was Time, I think, where there are those bugs on that planet and they have to use the stargate to give the solution to themselves in the past, multiple times. Really, the idea and the realization was great. I can't wait to see the second half of the season.
