1. Focus Every man should have a focus or goal in life that he works hard on to accomplish. Whether its winning WCG or not, it has to be something the man is truly passionate about and deeply focused on. The problem in life is that there are too many distractions that take our mind off what we truly want. Everything around you has potential to take your focus off your work. The biggest culprit is entertainment media, such as TV, music, movies and the internet. It's great to be able to escape reality once in a while, but keep your focus on what you truly want in life because that's long-term. Focus is the #1 important thing you can improve to own life ez.
2. Energy Do you wake up feeling like you just got ran over by a bus? Waking up with energy and maintaining that balance of energy throughout your day can be difficult. The biggest thing I have found that has helped me is to go to bed earlier, not overeat my meals and think positive about the future. When we put our utmost energy in a task and couple that with focus that is where we have the potential to excel the most. Improving your energy is the #2 way you can iown life ez.
3. Self-Control We all have bad habits we do that we want to stop, but never get around to putting an effort into actually changing. Improving our self-control and just saying, "no" when an opportunity to do that bad habit comes is very self-empowering. Keeping your word to yourself when you say you will or will not do something is also self-empowering. It will teach you self-control and allow you to own life ez.
4. Self-Awareness Do you go through life in a walking daze or are you actually aware of your actions? Most people go through life not really self-aware about what they are doing. Instead, they are just going through the motions and routine they do day after day. In order to improve your self-awareness you have to ask yourself how you feel about yourself and why you feel that way. Then you can start to make a change. Sometimes we need a reality slap in the face to get us to see what we are doing and whether it is truly benefiting us or not.
5. Relaxation State The ability to control your relaxation state is crucial in owning life ez. In our life we will face many difficult situations that give us two options: 1. freak out and go apeshit, 2. Assess the situation and understand what needs to be done to solve the problem. Option 1 is easy, but option 2 requires us to trigger a relaxation state so that we can think clearly and make a decision not based on emotional reaction, but based on the actual situation at hand. Keeping our poise is something that will require self-awareness. In fact, most of these things are good when improved on their own, but when you improve all five of things collectively as a system, that is where its most effective.

Why do you make big blogs and not discuss them with the people in the blog afterwards?

you can take advice from tom, dick, and harry or you can listen to the inner whisperings of the ancients.

I find these blogs quite entertaining, keep making them

Do you have any other tips for this? I've tried going to bed early, eating properly, and pretty much everything else you can think of but I'm always completely exhausted when I'm waking up to the point that I can't make the connection between a ringing alarm clock and pushing a snooze or off button.

Im just like this, as are millions of other people. This is just something that differs between people, some people are just morning people and some aren't, this has been scientifically proven.
The OP just has no clue what he's talking about.
Also try to put your alarm not within your reach.

I find putting a single alarm out of reach is bad because it's too painful to get up on the first ring, but if I put my second alarm set 15-20 minutes later on the other side of the room then I get 20 minutes to snooze with a set wake-up time!

How much do you expect people to discuss... especially since some of us aren't even convinced this is your work that you wrote specifically for TL? You post five obvious ways to make your life easier and then people ask questions and you think that it's not worth discussing? Really? If you're not going to participate at all on this site other than to post your top five lists, then I think you owe it to the people here to discuss whatever they want to discuss.

When someone asks a good question I will, and I've already answered one, and I will continue to do answer good questions and participate in positive discussions. I don't respond to people insulting, bitching, disagreeing, complaining or being negative. That's my policy. Now ironically you're complaining about me and i'm responding to you. Well.. consider yourself lucky this one time because normally i wouldn't respond to such a complaint. If you're not adding value to the post you are just a nuisance, and i choose not to participate to the negativity. So, I hope you understand my reasoning. If you still don't then so be it.

responding and debating criticism is key to being self-aware.
the fact that most of the people in this thread think your advice is vague, unhelpful, and generally bullshit, it might be indicative that you should examine it.
When someone makes a good post or makes a good point in their blog's, it's generally well received.
Not saying that all these people are right and that you're full of shit, but more so that it seems counter-productive to your 4th ideal of being self-aware.
good luck to you.

It's quite obvious to me what people think of my advice. I am well aware. Responding to criticism would not be the key to self-awareness when that criticism comes from people you don't know on the internet and a place of ill-intentions. So you are wrong in that respect. My posts are to help people who are truly seeking more knowledge. And if that leads to discussions, good. However, I have nothing to prove to anyone. You act as if im getting paid to do this, and that I need to appease everyone. If you don't like the content I write then my blog is not for you. There are plenty of other blogs for you to read.

I've tried going to bed early, eating properly, and pretty much everything else you can think of but I'm always completely exhausted when I'm waking up to the point that I can't make the connection between a ringing alarm clock and pushing a snooze or off button. so you know day[9]'s podcast about building triggers in SC? turns out it's pretty similar in real life - you just have to build a trigger inside of you that goes "hear alarm, get out of bed and stay out of bed." the difference is that you ALSO have to work against an old trigger at the same time - "hear alarm, hit snooze." so you have to figure out a new trigger you want to use that's different from the old one - if you've been using the same alarm clock for the past 10 years of your life it might be good to get a new one with a different sound, or try a different radio station or playlist to wake up to, or place your alarm in a completely different part of the room, etc.
exercise helps wake you up in the morning as well, but you may want to save that for a bit later for when you've actually started waking up on your own.
next step is to visualize it and practice it OUTSIDE of normally waking up - set your alarm for a few minutes later, pretend to sleep, hear alarm, wake up - practicing/visualizing will help BUILD the trigger in your head before you actually have to do it. then you do it in real life, and you continue doing it or practicing it until it becomes habit.
lastly it might be good to have accountability partners - i.e. someone you give/promise something significant to and call every morning by a certain time to let them know you're up and out of bed and doing shit. If you missed calling you have to do what you promised (i.e. you give them $50 to hold onto unless you miss a call and then it's theirs to spend or burn or whatever), and you do this every time you miss a call. generally speaking you'd need a really close/trusted friend to do this for you, because otherwise they might run off with your money... or worse, not care if you fuck up and hold you accountable for your words.
one more thing to remember - don't try to change too many of your habits at once - if you just wanted to wake up earlier, don't change your diet and add exercise or vow to put in extra hours at your job or hobby, or else you might burn out and revert to old habits very easily. this was the biggest pitfall for me whenever I tried to change myself - all the sleeping habits, eating habits and working habits would go at the same time, but in the end missing one caused me to revert. you have to build these experiences and habits separately, one by one.

Interesting Post. I certainly have an accountability partner on weekdays since I must get to work on time XD
Exercise isn't necessary for me since once I'm up to the point where I can sit on my computer, I'm fine.
It seems like the only thing that could make a difference would be to somehow establish a trigger like what you were talking about... I need to somehow convince my body that I should stop feeling tired when it's time to get up. I don't expect myself to get up the moment the alarm first goes off since that isn't even supposed to be easy. But if I set one alarm for 5:30 by my bed so that I can snooze and another on the other side of the room at 6 to ensure I get up, then the blow should be lessened ideally. Unfortunately I am still sometimes completely exhausted by the time the second alarm goes off!

You didn't really answer anything. You basically just said "look at this link, I can't be bothered to give you any advice personally". That's not discussing anything. Actually the only posts you DID bother giving a decent reply to were Mora's and mine (and believe me, you have no idea how lucky I consider myself for that one time).
Let's take a closer look at things.
Top gamers: 37 replies, no replies from you other than OP Top animes: 102 replies, no replies from you other than OP Top graduations tips: 25 replies, no replies from you other than OP Top fat reasons: 67 replies, no replies from you other than OP Top NBA players: 13 replies, no replies from you other than OP This thread: 37 replies, 4 replies from you overall. Not very much actual "discussion" of topic Top beef up techniques: 25 replies, 1 reply from you being two sentences. Top rockers: 11 replies (so far), no replies from you other than OP
So I've accounted for every single one of your posts right there.
Something isn't right about this. Are you telling me that not a single post in any of those other threads was worth more than two sentences and/or a link? TL lets you post your blog here, right? So shouldn't you be interacting more with TL (by TL I mean the users of course)? Nobody expects you to reply to everybody but it gives off a horrible image if you don't reply to ANYBODY.

I have problems with one and two. Specifically, how do I make myself go to sleep earlier (usually I go to sleep around 4am-7am, or not at all if something important is on the next day) even though I am never tired at night. Been struggling with this for years and tried many different things: relaxation techniques, exercise - even sleeping pills don't help! I can do it for a week sometimes but then I am forced to stay up late doing an assignment or something and I always revert back to it. This leads to problems getting up in the morning as you can imagine. I have two alarms on the other side of the room but sometimes sleep through both of them even though one is very loud. Even if I manage to wake up I have nausea and feel like vomiting cos I'm so exhausted and just fall asleep in class. So I struggle thorugh the week with little sleep and spend the weekend sleeeping.
EDIT: Help!
