Bass amp

So yeah I've been playing bass for nearly a year now and I've decided to move on to upgrading from my piece of shit 15 watt.

I'm basically just looking for a bit of input from anyone who might be able to help me decide on what to get for my first "real" amplifier.

At this point I'm feeling pretty confident about a 100 watt fender, and I've asked a few people and they've said it seems like a solid choice. Has anyone by chance used this amp or know someone who has?

My preference is for something quite loud, at least 100 watts, or anything that can keep up with a drummer really, hopefully a combo. sound quality isn't a huge issue, I AM still a beginner so to be honest I probably couldn't tell.

sunn amps are nice. you can get a 100watt tube amp for cheap. i suggest the MODEL T

i use to rock my rickenbacker 4300 out of this amp through a enormous traynor cabinet., sickest bass heard in athens georgia from 2001-2005

Buy used is probably my main advice. When I was looking for an amp I managed to score a 900 watt amp (although it only came with one 8ohm cab so I'm really only using like 120 watts right now, but I could use the full 900 if I buy more cabs) for only $200 dollars. Make sure the seller gives you a while to play with it though

If the fender amp you're talking about is a solid state amp (it should most likely say on the amp itself what kind it is), then 100 watts will probably get you by if you play with a reasonably loud drummer, or in a quiet jazz or blues band (unless you have a PA you can plug into). Although if it's 100 watts tube, like what omninmo posted, then that should be as loud as you'll ever need and the tone will be amazing.

I know you consider yourself a beginner still, but if you're going to buy a new amp then you should probably think further into the future about what you'll need so you won't have to go buy a new amp again a year from now when you decide to be in a loud punk or metal band.

Thanks for the advice. I was under the impression that going for a head+cab would be a bit too much of a hassle, but now I'm reconsidering..
