I know I'm scarily early given that it's only the end of August, but considering it is also the end of the eSporting season for now it seems like an appropriate time to lay down my own personal gauntlet for the 2009/10 season whenever it happens.
Any other goal suggestions are gratefully received.
I basically achieved all my goals for last season:
~ Upgrade camera and lens.
~ Shoot members of all 12 teams.
~ Do solo photo shoots with members of all 12 teams.
~ Backho Card Project.
~ Demolish the list - with the exception of a handful of people.
1. Kwanro, I choose you!
Shockingly there are actually some gamers I haven't done solo photo shoots with yet. I tend to stick to big names (Boxer, Bisu, Jaedong etc.) or notable rookies (Horang2, Skyhigh, Effort.) This season I'm branching out to take more community suggestions and focus upon gamers I've never really even spoken to before except in passing.
2. Go for Broke.
I've gotten my dream kit already after three months of eating rice and soy sauce and walking home/taking the dreaded subway. I finally got to test out the Canon EOS5D/70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM combination at the Bacchus 2009 OSL finals and it's definitely a big step up from my cozy, but tricky Nikon D40X (which is being retired to a 'daily use' camera for now.)
I have about three Canon lenses I want right now, but the selection is really immense even if you don't count potential third-party options. I'm also planning to invest in other kit such as a tripod for shooting landscapes using the Nikon, a new camera bag to fit all these lenses in and some other bits and bobs.
3. Watch out bowl-cutted gamers.
Yes, this means you Backho and Canata. With the launch of the Violet and Canata fancafes (of which I am captain.) I'm planning a tonne more projects related to behind-the-scenes gaming action. Basically if someone requests it and it's within my power to do so I'll do it.
When the new season kicks off I'm going to get straight to work and make up for the slightly less active nature of my work in the last couple of months.
4. Stop being so damn worried/upset about criticism.
I didn't actually realize until someone (Susie and most of the TL vent channel) told me, but I take all of this pretty seriously. (ForGG yoghurt jokes and bowl-cuts aside.)
Thanks again for the support and comments people have given me since I (lost my mind) began photographing eSports way back in April 2008.
