Alright. Just bought this game, after having completed the ff12 (which kinda sucked imo, not enough "real" cinematics scenes, but whatever, i really liked the combat system except that there was like 80% of useless gambits).
So far it's really good, the combat system was really slow at the beginning but now it's getting interesting. However i've some questions (i'm on the very near end of the first CD):
- Maria tilts me to no end. She keeps using the power up symbologic one and she always keeps her MP low which kinda sucks (because 0 MP = Dead). Is there a way to avoid it ? - Right now, i've only 2 characters that has support symbols (read heals), cauz i think i wasted one to a person that has already learned it. Any way to have more of those "book" for more characters ? - Sometimes there are tactic skills which are REALLY useless or i'm missing something. Like when i tell Maria to use attack only she still uses magics. Yeah right wtf is that supposed to do ? - Sometimes my characters bugs when i don't use the "attack w/ all your might" or something (not the "do nothing" one obv. and of course i've set them to Auto Mode). And this makes me really angry as they keep getting away from the fight and don't attack at all nor heal anyone (when they have low mp that is, kinda obvious for healing but not for attack). - I can't find any "average" weapons or armor... So they end up getting very very undergeared. I've bought 1 or 2 weapons from the Airiglyph (whatever the name is) where they were really good but were kinda expensive. Any way to get better armor or / and more money ? - The crafting system is annoying aswell. Or i'm doing wrong. So few of them get "high" rating and most of them are useless. I can't get a somewhat good weapon with smithery because they keep failing although i've put fayt cliff and the gats smith guy in the same line. Gah.
HELP please. Thank you very much.
Overall, i'd say it's a pretty good game. Really sucks that we can't have a "world" map or change the camera view (i mean to get the camera far away of the character or to have a First person view in order to see in a long distance).
But like i said, i've not finished it yet. So i won't judge right now.
Regards,
Raiz

i enjoyed it up until it bugged/i got stuck, then lost my save the camera view was appawling (sp) but i loved the FMA
|
What is FMA ? appealing is the word you're searching i think. So far i didn't have save bugs (thanks god cauz the FF7 one was a pain in the ass).
|
Ahhh Star Ocean 3.... best battle system i've ever played in an RPG... so much damage to be had in one battle...
about the crafting system, from what i remember, if you want good stuff you gotta look for the best inventors (obviously)... oh and make tons of Orichalcums... thats a free pass to beating the game hahaha

Maria tilts me to no end. She keeps using the power up symbologic one and she always keeps her MP low which kinda sucks (because 0 MP = Dead). Is there a way to avoid it ? Go to the menu, turn off all her symbology (square when it's highlighted, I think). I recommend turning off all spells for everyone; you can cast them yourself if you need to.
Right now, i've only 2 characters that has support symbols (read heals), cauz i think i wasted one to a person that has already learned it. Any way to have more of those "book" for more characters ? There are 4 books in the game ... but honestly items are better than Healing in-battle most of the time anyway.
Sometimes there are tactic skills which are REALLY useless or i'm missing something. Like when i tell Maria to use attack only she still uses magics. Yeah right wtf is that supposed to do ? Yes they're pretty much useless. Leave everyone on "Attack with all your might."
Sometimes my characters bugs when i don't use the "attack w/ all your might" or something (not the "do nothing" one obv. and of course i've set them to Auto Mode). And this makes me really angry as they keep getting away from the fight and don't attack at all nor heal anyone (when they have low mp that is, kinda obvious for healing but not for attack). The AI thinks its HP or MP is too low, so it backs away from the fight to be safe. My guess is you're using Cliff and he's backing away against enemies who can deal MP damage since his max MP is low enough that the AI always thinks he's in danger.
I recommend just changing the tactic like I said above ... the AI is only good at one thing in SO3, and that's mindlessly spamming cancel chains. At least on "Attack with all your might" the AI is very predictable and thus you can work with it.
I can't find any "average" weapons or armor... So they end up getting very very undergeared. I've bought 1 or 2 weapons from the Airiglyph (whatever the name is) where they were really good but were kinda expensive. Any way to get better armor or / and more money ? You're not supposed to buy the Airyglyph weapons when you're first there; they're absurdly overpowered for that part of the game. Just visit shops as you go and upgrade weapons (armor is generally more optional).
The crafting system is annoying aswell. Or i'm doing wrong. So few of them get "high" rating and most of them are useless. I can't get a somewhat good weapon with smithery because they keep failing although i've put fayt cliff and the gats smith guy in the same line. Gah. Yes.
I recommend staying away from item creation unless you really feel stuck in the game without it. Then look at a guide to make what you want. This one should be good.
Trying IC without a guide is an exercise in frustration--the system is very opaque and you'll usually just end up wasting all your time and money. Even with knowing how the system works and exactly what prices to look for ... it's still a pain.

Is there a way to avoid it ? You can turn off any spells you want, I don't remember exactly how. Something like going into the menu, finding their list of spells and pressing triangle? Been awhile since I played and I'm too lazy to open up the game.
- Right now, i've only 2 characters that has support symbols (read heals), cauz i think i wasted one to a person that has already learned it. Any way to have more of those "book" for more characters ? Not sure, but I think no.
- Sometimes there are tactic skills which are REALLY useless or i'm missing something. Like when i tell Maria to use attack only she still uses magics. Yeah right wtf is that supposed to do ? Dunno, maybe "attack only" means attack physically + magically, and not use support spells (buffs, heals, etc)? You can just turn off all spells like I mentioned above.

I can't say I had this problem. You can always switch control and hope your main char doesn't bug out haha.

I've bought 1 or 2 weapons from the Airiglyph (whatever the name is) where they were really good but were kinda expensive. Any way to get better armor or / and more money ? After one point in the game (don't think you're there yet) you basically make money really fast (at least I did) from just running around killing stuff. I remember having problem with buying armor too. Skills are more important I think that early, so if you use them well, even if you're undergeared you can still fare fine.
- The crafting system is annoying aswell. Or i'm doing wrong. So few of them get "high" rating and most of them are useless. I can't get a somewhat good weapon with smithery because they keep failing although i've put fayt cliff and the gats smith guy in the same line. Gah. Yeah that's a bitch, personally I used a guide to do all my item crafting + save/load, so I don't really have any help for you there other than that.

Raiz Well there are a bunch of worlds so it sorta makes sense? I find that the minimap is enough for me (and you can toggle it to be bigger). I think they did the view purposely to make some items harder to find? Not sure. Didn't bother me too much.
Great game though, I should probably pick it up again and finish the bonus dungeon.
edit: okay lol the guy above posted what I said + more and better stuff so ignore me.

That was really fast, thank you very much guys. Didn't know the "square" button to turn it off. Untill now i thought it was only for toggling it on/off Anti attack auras, berserk and whatnot.

Right now i've Roger who can deal 3 or 4 times more damage than anyone else... Not my fault if i've read a NPC saying something like "they may not be as good as the airyglyph one but are not bad either" and then went to check it out if i could get back there. You know, sometime i've a OCD and can't let it go Show nested quote +The crafting system is annoying aswell. Or i'm doing wrong. So few of them get "high" rating and most of them are useless. Just after that my senses told me : Danger. Don't bother without a proper guide. And even though after reading like 3 or 4 guides about crafting i saw most of them didn't get exactly the "right" price to look for. I guess like you said i'll look at it later and focus more on the cancel combos
Again thank you very much guys for the quick answers. Didn't expect that so fast. If i have had more money on poker i'd have sent it already as a reward (if you have pokerstars account that is )

One other tip: if you're having trouble with random encounters, most likely it's just that those enemies are really difficult and best avoided. Unfortunately the randoms in the game tend to be quite polarized: either they're so easy you can almost just watch the AI win the fight for you, or they're so difficult they gun down the AI in about two seconds.
This will also make sure your healing items last through the whole dungeon--if you need to heal a lot in-battle, you're probably fighting enemies that aren't really worth the trouble.

Well, right now i'm in Shrine of kaddan, so far i've used 3 or 4 ressurect thing (called sage i think) because of those retarded-mp-use-only characters that keeps dying against mp ennemies... So I just had to control them manually and put the other(s) one on the other team. But i guess i won't be having trouble anymore now that i can get rid of this thank to your tip.
I wanted to control roger and its cancel combo + expensive weapon from airyglyph + berserk to basically almost one-shot all ennemies. This is really fun but i guess i'll get bored of it rather fast :p

[i]Maria tilts me to no end. She keeps using the power up symbologic one and she always keeps her MP low which kinda sucks (because 0 MP = Dead). Is there a way to avoid it [/i
-ok i dont know if u already figured it out but here it is, first go to menu then symbology, chose maria and u can turn off the spell by pressing the 'square' and the staff thingy should dissappear or what ever u called it. :D
Right now, i've only 2 characters that has support symbols (read heals), cauz i think i wasted one to a person that has already learned it. Any way to have more of those "book" for more characters ?
i dont know about that 1
Sometimes my characters bugs when i don't use the "attack w/ all your might" or something (not the "do nothing" one obv. and of course i've set them to Auto Mode). And this makes me really angry as they keep getting away from the fight and don't attack at all nor heal anyone (when they have low mp that is, kinda obvious for healing but not for attack).
i suggest u use the 'attack w/ all your might' and set it on auto
I can't find any "average" weapons or armor... So they end up getting very very undergeared. I've bought 1 or 2 weapons from the Airiglyph (whatever the name is) where they were really good but were kinda expensive. Any way to get better armor or / and more money ?
you dont have to buy those weapons, just invent one from workshop, or get an orichalcum, it adds 500 atk, and its really useful, u have, go to workshop and u should have Maxell, Misty and Maria/Sophia (it have to be in that order) and set the cost 5200-5700, get 8 Orich. u could synthesize it 8 times, but i suggest 7 if you have a 'boots of poweress'(which gives u 30%atk and 30%def fully refined) and then synthesize this accesory to that weapon and u'll have (3500atk + 30%atk of it) and i think it gives u about 5500atk or more (if have strong weapons that starts with 2000atk or 500atk it can even get to a 7k or 8k) and this apply to any weak weapons such as longswords but i think 3 or 4 orichulcum (refined about 3 times just the 500+ dont include the second one) will be enough since u only have a limited supplies of synthesize material and they are very rare u wont find any until u finish the game 'who knows' u might need it later so save it, special on disc two, but with this u prob dont need to buy the weapons from airyglyph bcuz it will be 5x's stronger (if you have a 'laser weapon' on disc 2, use that bcuz everyone can use it and its a very strong weapon iono but i think its the 3rd strongest weapon)
The crafting system is annoying aswell. Or i'm doing wrong. So few of them get "high" rating and most of them are useless. I can't get a somewhat good weapon with smithery because they keep failing although i've put fayt cliff and the gats smith guy in the same line. Gah.
- i think crafting is really helpful, if u have an accessory that raise ur max HP or max MP, or ur atk/def, like the boots of poweress that i mentioned earlier, and make sure u refine it to make it more useful. - about smithery, it also depends on the inventor, each inventor have thier own unique way of inventing weapons or armors(even in crafting, cooking, etc.) and u must have them in the first line, and gats can invent nice weapon only 'HE' can invent it and same goes for the other inventors but there is time when they make the same as the other inventors, and theres a guild about who can make 'what'
and theres also a money trick about here Grat/Gusto,Cliff, Albel/Adray (it has to be in that order althou the other two are just only there for support)and try to make a Rune Blade or False god claw in about 5000-5200 and u can sell it about 10,000 that is twice the money u use to invent this thing
well then that's about it, Maybe u already know this stuff, i hope its not too late tho, but i'll post it anyway for those who needs help, AYT AYT

Good on you for playing a fantastic game. May you beat freya on 4-D. There are very few reason you'll actually need the crafting system. And that's only for like orichalum/bop/ or other few random items that give you the needed bonuses on a weapon.
Roger is a terrible hero but it's good he's working out for you I guess. In normal difficulty fayt can solo the game with no problem at all. Everyone else seems to have answered all your questions. The game doesn't even get hard until the post game, that's where the fun starts.
|
Freya on 4D is actually extremely easy, albeit extremely tedious.
I don't like 4D though, the way it works is that it's just so much easier to solo everything than to try to keep your AI characters alive, and soloing in SO3 is boring (I'd much rather play Devil May Cry if I were going to control a solo character in a game like that, no?). The enemy AI gets significantly worse from Galaxy -> 4D too since it becomes laughably predictable.
