Tomorrow I leave for a 20 hour road trip drug out over 2 days. I have never had to drive this much at one time so I have a pretty simple question:

What specific foods should I buy for the long trip? We will be stopping to eat throughout the day but I like to snack while I drive and could really use some suggestions.

NOTE:
1) It must be able to last 20 hours in a possibly hot car.
2) Junk food is fine but I dont want only shit that will make me feel awful.
3) Must be fairly easy to eat and not require any preparation.

Any suggestions would be amazing.

I like trail mix for long drives. Crunchy food is also nice to help stay awake. I'm personally not a fan of fatty snacks for the road since they tend to assist with that zombified/coma road sate.

Oh canned Tuna. I love canned tuna for some reason. :D

This too! It helps a little bit with car sickness and you can still chew on something when you're full or don't feel like eating.

Nuts
Trail Mix
Cold Water/Juice.

I prefer my drinks and beverages cold, not warm or room temperature.

Sandwiches are a must if you want it to be cheap, although not great for snack food (you can eat them while driving if someone else gets them out, but stopping almost always makes more sense). If you get anything salty like chips or pretzels, be sure to be drinking water instead of coke or something. Beef jerky is great to snack on while driving, and usually won't make you feel sick. Anything with tons of sugar in it will either make you crash hard or get sick after too much (like eating one candy bar or something is fine, eating 5 is not). Pretzels are a better idea than chips, as well.

Be sure to bring a cooler to put drinks in, it's typically way cheaper. Drinks are really the larger requirement than food for such long trips. A different note is that you want to bring a massive music selection - at least 3x as much as you think you will be driving (so bring 60 hours worth of music so you can select whatever you feel like and not get tired of it).

(I once drove from KY to peoria and back in 2-3 days. Didn't sleep at all, it was a terrible idea. But yeah). Stopping often helps on a trip like that, once every 2 - 3 hours for 10-15 minutes can make the drive much easier.

Starting a 36 hour trip myself. We're not stopping anywhere besides to eat/getgas though. Leaving prettysoon actually =) Yayblizzcon.

It's not as long as it seems, just bring minimal stuffs like crackers and chips and water, impulse buy everything else at gas stations. I find it much better to do this than overprepare, ending up with lots of junk to throw away. Not to mention when you're impulse buying things along the way it's better to eat what feels right, rather than what you happened to pack.

Oh and if you want fast food that won't make you die, get subway, they're everywhere.

See you at Blizzcon. =)

Really, really good idea to bring nuts: almonds, peanuts, anything that you don't have to peel and can just eat. Shell out for a big mix of nut/fruit mix; it's expensive, but it def. won't make you feel like shit, won't go bad, will fill you up and is extremely healthy.
Dont drink and derive. TSL: Made with Balls.

Get a lot of water. Soda/juice is okay too but you want to have water, it definitely hydrates you and gives you that fresh feeling in your mouth the best.

Beef jerky is awesome for road trips.

Roasted peanuts (honey roasted mmmmm).

Try to eat at least one hot "real" filling meal a day (a meal at McDonald's or equivalent would suffice).

I like bringing a fruit with me, like bananas or tangerines. Clears up the junk food a bit.
Peace~

I'd say beef jerky or sandwiches with deli meat in them inside a cooler bag. It'll help keep your energy up, just pack some water and you'll be able to do it no problem. It's how I do all my long road trips cross-country.

You should make some more commentaries instead of going on a road trip yo.

K I just got back...

I did end up buying honey roasted peanuts and salt and vinegar chips (thanks respectively for those suggestions)

I also bought a SHIT TON (its a unit of measurement) of drinks. Mostly water/vitamin water/some sodas. As well as a couple other filler things to hold me over between Taco Bell stops.

Thanks for the suggestions yo.

Get a huge amounts of grapes instead of all that unhealthy stuff. Gets me through any car ride. If you are getting real hungry just make a stop and get something real instead of 20 hours of junk food.

Pemmican! But if you don't want to make it, then beef jerky, cheese, and nuts work too. Delicious, high energy, and no blood sugar spikes. And water of course.

Edit: Whoops looks like I'm a little late.
