Our ad policy does not permit auto playing audio or auto expanding ads. To report an ad, follow these steps: 1. Right click the ad (or just below if you can't right click it) and choose "Inspect" ( img) 2. In the dev tools window, scroll up so that as much of the code before the highlighted line is visible ( img). Expand any collapsed lines if necessary. 3. Link a screenshot of the ad, a description of the problem and a screenshot of the dev tools window in this thread. |

That is what happens with the ad in question. When I click on it it brings me to http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/ideapad/yoga/yoga-13/?cid=us|649738&
I dunno if that is the URL you need to get rid of it, but right clicking on the ad itself doesn't do anything

Yeah, that Lenovo ad is the one that has been bothering me, I think. (I posted a separate thread about this.) I've also, as I said there, had pages redirect me to the app store on my iphone, which is really annoying. I'll try to get the ad tag the next time the Lenovo ad comes up, but you have to close it to even see the main site, so I don't know if that means the ad tag won't match up.

Doesn't have to be nude in order to be hugely inappropriate in a work environment... Same here. If I don't like ad and TL is not willing to remove it then I just start using adblock. I mean if Rich is saying that ad is okay (overall view of some ads) then I think most will just use adblock after that without telling TL that they did. Its lose-lose situation for both. I can't do anything without ad tag info or a destination URL, a screenshot does not help.
How many ad tags TL.net has? TF_INT (international) and other for TF_US (For US) users? User who posted was from Canada, so any canadian user might inform are they getting TF_INT ads or TF_US. But just in case why not check both ad tags and remove offensive ones?

I'm sorry, but TL's stance on mouse-over ads needs to change. I don't understand why you guys take the stance that they are acceptable. Having your mouse pointer end up over an ad for a few seconds doesn't mean we intended to have it there. Mouse over ads take up the screen, are usually accompanied with sound (which is yet another unacceptable characteristic), and are just really annoying.
TL comes across as inconsiderate. TL knows that a lot of people, myself included, will do everything they can to support TL, meaning we won't ad-block, and so we have to put up with these ads. I'm going to give TL one final week before I permanently ad-block TL on all my devices. By insisting on having as many different types of ads as possible, you are losing me as a source of ad revenue.
|
It takes three seconds of hovering over the firefly video banner ads before they pop out, during which time you see a progress bar counting up before the popup occurs. If you think we are insisting on every possible type of ad, you are very much mistaken. We have opted out of the majority of high paying ad campaigns because even though they would generate us thousands of dollars of additional revenue, we feel they are too intrusive. Just for the sake of transparency, here are our ad controls:
Ad types allowed:

Ad filters:

It's very frustrating to see responses like yours when we're already taking great measures to limit the intrusiveness of ads.

I'm surprised religious isn't filtered out considering the policy on religion threads.

The only religious ads I have seen were dating sites based on religion.

Maybe check Suggestive? At least, I would assume it falls into that category... Seeing your post, I un-adblocked TL, but I reblocked after seeing the following ad. + Show Spoiler +
(Ad tag was TF_US)

You need to click the ad choices icon to figure out where that's coming from, you should be able to adjust your preferences at whatever network if you are able to see the ad choices icon.

Didn't notice the mod note requiring an ad tag. The ad tag is TF_US. If it required a rollover or something I'd have no issue with it but it even pops up and starts blaring noise when I'm full screened on a stream which is obnoxious >_<

I've tested this exact ad in my browser, it requires a 3 second hover to trigger. It doesn't just pop up by itself.

That's not the experience I've had. It popped up at least ten times during MLG weekend while I was full screen. I was watching the stream directly on twitch too so I wasn't even on the same tab. I'm using Chrome, I didn't try any other browsers.

In my case, when I click on a stream and start watching, for some reason, my pointer ends up hovering there. I don't know why. Maybe because I move it out of the way of the stream. But point is, in practice, a hover ad is not an add where it only plays when someone shows an interest and intends to make it play. It seems to happen accidentally to more people than just me.
I'm sorry for saying you guys try to milk us all you can, I can see that's not true now. I <3<3<3 TL immensely, which is why I have thrown such a fuss over this.
I respect whatever you guys decide to do, but I think its valid to say that a hover ad is not actually a hover ad. They aren't only activated by interest. It happens accidentally quite often, and should be addressed as such. Since in the end, that's the experience the users have.

I am actually having the same thing occur to me with that lenovo ad. I won't even have the tab that has the ad on top and it will just go off randomly. Not sure why this happens, but it definitely does.
|
I was experimenting with the rollover putting a tab on my main monitor. Then the Lenovo ad started blaring and had taken over the tab that was to this very thread.
It seems to occur in when my mouse is on the ad, which is at the top of the browser and I go to click on a different tab.
Example: http://www.twitch.tv/suftv/b/381396265
It seems to occur in other instances, but that is the one I can recreate.
The other times I recall it happening is if I open a new thread and my mouse happens to be where the banner ad is. Before I notice, since I am usually reading the thread, the ad goes off.
|
That makes sense, thanks for the video. Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done about that specific example, the browser doesn't let the page (or flash player in this case) know when the cursor has left the page, or the position of the cursor on other pages as this would constitute a security risk.

Thanks, I never would have been able to figure out how this was happening on my own. This has been driving me nuts for a while now. I guess I'll try and be really careful where i put my mouse whenever that lenovo ad is up.

Goddammit that lenova ad scared the shit outa me. Came in here to report it but seems that there's already a discussion on it.
If there's anything that can be done, please remove it. Thanks.

If you click the X on the ad, Google will adjust your preferences so you don't see ads like that.
