TL Mafia
As of right now, it seems like every sub-forum in sports and games appears on the sidebar, (DotA2, LoL, etc) currently it also seems like the Mafia subforum is dealing with an extreme shortage of players, due to many of our veteran players being otherwise occupied. While we will be putting up a recruitment post to help remedy that shortage, in general recruitment posts give the subforum a small boost of players for a short amount of time and then they leave and we are back where we started. I feel like this is partially due to how hidden the subforum is. I understand some of the reasons why its not as visible as the other sub-forums (avoiding game interruption, etc) but really right now it feels like TL Mafia needs more exposure. I think a good way make the mafia forum more visible would be to make it appear on the sidebar, making it easier for new people to stumble upon the subforum.
We discussed it as a community in this thread and we seem to have generally agreed that it would be a good thing.
So, can we please get a spot on the sidebar like every other sub-forum?

I fully agree with this the Mafia forum needs more players at the moment and this is the best way to go about it.

The change would definitely be appreciated. The current 2+ week wait to get a single game started can be frustrating at times. If its a matter of not wanting a laundry list of threads on the sidebar, even a subforum header whose threads are minimized by default would be helpful.

Yes please! Currently it's taking a very long time for games to start up; a 2 weeks wait usually from the thread being started to signups being filled up. This would be extremely helpful. Also,

I don't know if it's a good idea but I certainly don't think 'because it needs more exposure' is a reason they would visibly put it on the sidebar; similar to their featured streamers policy.

What determines that any other subforum, say the LoL forum, needs the sidebar more than the mafia forum? If its a question of who benefits more I think we could argue that the Mafia forum would reap more benefits, if its not a question of what the forums get out of it then what criteria is used ?

Getting more games running would be awesome!
It'll take some initial moderation to crack down on people dropping in and spamming games but otherwise should be good.
We should think of a standard baseline for all the punishments we want in place, eg. mig's ban discussion beforehand.

It's true. I think that a large reason for the overall agreement here is that open access to the forum has been shown to be only a good thing for TL Mafia as a whole. As far as I can tell, there is not a single instance of a game being interrupted by a random person since the forum became openly accessible.
It certainly seems that being on the sidebar will vastly improve the exposure of Mafia, without bringing any of the drawbacks that we originally feared. There is simply no incentive for a random poster to try and ruin an ongoing game, because TL is extremely swift and hard on such people, and you likely could not screw up a mafia game if you tried.
Plexa, does your mayoral platform include increasing exposure to TL Mafia through direct use of the Sports & Games Sidebar?

I have to say, that even in other big forums, that Mafia games need to always have some sort of top-level exposure if the player base does not wish to stagnate.

This is GMarshal here with Tl News at ground zero of the riots that have just broken out in the Website Feedback forum. The riot apparently spread from the TL Mafia subforum, which demands greater representation in the sidebar. The protesters or "rioting fools" as one of the authorities was heard mumbling to himself, are here in full force, insiting that they will "occupy" team liquid until their demands are met. Our reporter on the ground obtained the following image and statement from one of the rioters

I was going to say something about how having TL Mafia in the sidebar under Sports and Games would help a lot in making the forum more accessible for newcomers and Mafia regulars alike, how the Mafia forum has become organized and self-regulating enough that the benefits of making it more visible greatly outweigh any potential disadvantages (like people randomly interrupting games or something), and how we clearly have a vibrant and devoted community that we'd love to have more people become part of...
But GMarshal's post puts anything I was going to say to shame. Personally, I'm looking forward to ponies coming up next, possibly carrying Salvation along with them.

Putting Mafia on the side-bar will help to further expose my favourite part of the forum. It will bring more fresh blood into the community, and will introduce more people to something I consider awesome. There's a great community there, and I think TL users could benefit by being more easily able to see it and become a part of it.

I'd rather not have it on the sidebar, as it's just going to eat up vertical space (even with the forum "minimized" it still takes space. If there's some option to completely hide it, then I'd be fine with that, but as it is I already have a bunch of forums hidden that I don't want to see, so it'll just push things I do want to see further down the page.
Mafia is already a relatively selected group of people who are already in the community anyway.

Basically I don't think all these arbitrary games that TL plays deserve sidebar space. It's a Starcraft community site, not a "let's play random game X and add it to the sidebar" site.

@Insane, it's valid that random games shouldn't get a spot since it's "It's a sc community site." However, random games do have spots. Our argument is that if they deserve a spot then we are equally if not more deserving.
Also once again, if you care so much about the forums that would be pushed down then just use forum index, you get everything in a much more accesible view anyway.

yeah. someone please make it happen! we are lacking players completely. The mafia signup thread from a year ago even brought us more people than our current state. There is a deficit of newer players and not enough games are starting. there are 2 mini mafias and 1 yet to be filled normal mafia and before it use to be like 2 large and 2 mini at a time.

Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. I am tempted as I would like to learn. My only concern is how much time will I have to commit to the game? I can certainly log on at least once a day. Is that sufficient?

Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia. The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating:Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players. Only you may post on your account. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.Posting: Mod Font:This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.Question Font:This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in this thread. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is time, but that is subject to change.

You are the loyal TL Mafia citizen with no night actions. All you can do is vote during the day. But the town needs you to win so be active!
Hot_Bid
Your goal is to eliminate the good people of TL Mafia. Your ability, is killing off whomever you decide on at night. Mafia killing power is always 1 until there are no mafia remaining.
