So at the moment I'm #1 in my platinum division, stuck there can't seem to get promoted.
I just played 3 matches. 1st match was against a diamond player, who was an "even match". 2nd match was against a high plat player who I was "slightly favoured" against.
But the 3rd match, another "even match" was against a BRONZE PLAYER.
How the hell am I being matched against bronze in the 1st place, and how the hell is it even match?
Anyone else experienced getting matched against people 3-4 leagues below them??

You have 1000 posts and you still don't know what's going on?

The bronze player is probably being tested in order to be promoted. They have you play divisions above you in order to accurately gauge which division you belong to.
And it's been discussed before... the matchmaking system will never show you to be at an advantage. So even if it were to somehow match you with the last place bronze player, it would still appear as an even match.

Check the record and match history of the bronze player, matchmaking is based completely off of the hidden ranking, not their league. My guess is that this "bronze player" is someone who threw all 5 of his placements and is now on a monster win streak - causing him to play platinum players.
Edit: The guy above me is also wrong - it'll show advantage to whoever has it =/. Notice the different point gains/losses in people's match histories? I've also been favored plenty of times after hitting a plateau of 50% winrate.

lol, fair point.
but come on, "even match" against a BRONZE player? =/

I actually did this, and his score is actually pretty average.
Even if the game was looking to promote him, matching him 3 leagues above (nvm the fact that I'm #1 in divison) seems a little harsh. The game lasted about 5 mins, so I don't think we was a placement thrower.

Oh, it has never showed me to be favored in a single matchup. Interesting.

It usually happens to me after a lose streak - your hidden rating goes down and it seeks out lower rated opponents. How the ladder system works exactly is still a pretty big convoluted mess.
That's interesting Subversion, if his record wasn't impressive and he wasn't very good, must just be some random anomaly where they couldn't find you a game .

i don't recall it ever saying i'm favored either.

I placed into Silver, and I played 3 platinum players (ranked top 10). And won 2/3. Then I was promoted to Gold!

Funny, I used to think matchmaking was okay. I have this friend. I was trying to get him into SC2 for so long. He finally gets it and finally musters the courage to do placements. I sit there and watch as goes against plat, diamond, plat, diamond, plat, losing all 5 and being put in bronze. His record is still 0-5 and he hasn't logged on since.

The matchmaking system suspects that that "bronze" player is a smurf. As other people said, it's testing him by matching you against him. Since the system thinks he's a smurf, it makes the match an "even match" so that you are not penalized harshly if you lose.

Same here. I've been #1 for awhile. I went against a silver the other day which I thought was weird how easy the match was, he got all discouraged and was like "its hard to suck this bad, but htf" lol, gave him some advice, and then after the game i seen he was silver???
Ever since I hit #1 Plat, the majority of my games are against Diamonds in 600-850 range, winning far more than I lose. Which is why I think it's really weird that I havent recieved a promotion yet.
Yesterday I got 6 wins, 2 losses. 1 loss was a Diamond ZvZ, the other a Diamond Protoss proxy cheese where we traded bases but I couldnt take out his final structures (the proxy) in my base 'cause a handful of lings cant beat 3 zealots.
I know it takes a time period b4 the promotion goes thru, but damn. Probably been about 2 weeks that ive been #1 Plat and 800+ points. It's not like I'm not beating Diamonds.
Hoping I go thru soon so that I can see where I really stand in rankings. In my opinion, anything under Diamond makes it pretty hard to tell where you actually stand in the game and how good you are. Cant wait to see how far I can go.

I was actually rank 1 bronze for around 3-5 days until I played 12 diamond players in a row, until I lost 3 and won 1, I got promoted to diamond. Bnet is trying to gauge where your skill level lies, high platinum, or low diamond.

this is pretty much whats happening to me.
altho im pretty sad u've been stuck there for 2 weeks, really hope that doesnt happen to me
it sucks not being in diamond cos ur not ranked properly

Nope once you're diamond with enough points you'll start to be Slightly favored.
