The group stage has 60 Bo3s to run. Each Bo3 is roughly an hour. One stream would take eight eight-hour days just for the group stages, not to mention the DE Ro36 and the SE Playoffs. In addition, in a round-robin play, collusion is a real concern. Not that IEM thinks any players are dumb enough to throw a match for a friend, but it's best practice to structure things so as to remove any doubt. This is reason other minor sporting events like the World Cup have a very similar structure. You can still catch all the action on the free VoDs. You can still multistream to catch as much action live as you can. IEM is using a tested, proven tournament structure with the fewest drawbacks. Think before you post.

We have the tools to see the whole battlefield, so why deny the spectators information? But I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, and I appreciate the feedback. Will mix things up a bit more, but don't expect too many changes. <3

When it’s overused I think it can create a bit of a disconnect with what the players can see and what we can see that can kill the drama a bit. Super Tournament finals for example (my memory is fading with age, the players roles may be reversed) I think it was Zoun sneaking disruptors behind Trap’s army and the observer basically only showed them slightly before Trap got hit by them. Which was a cool bit of drama where the flank bamboozled the viewers almost as much as it did Trap. If everything was zoomed we’d have lost the element of surprise that made the moment so intense, it would have been ‘oh he’s going for a flank, this is probably going to work’ way before the fact. Still exciting but not as fun. On the flip side from tuning in to many of your streams I don’t recall it being something you overdo, plus having done it myself it’s really tricky to observe, cast and do both well simultaneously!

See I have to disagree. I personally don't like when info I could have is withheld. I'd like to see as much as possible and draw my own conclusions So I appreciate the wide shots for the most part unless it is super overused which I didn't particularly notice from the B stream

Which was a cool bit of drama where the flank bamboozled the viewers almost as much as it did Trap. And there's the problem. If I miss ANY action like that, chat goes BANANAS about me being a s*** observer. How could you not see that coming? Look at the minimap, you moron. Obs is residentsleeper. Obviously it creates kind of cool moments, but most Starcraft viewers prioritize perfect information during a cast over everything else, so a good observer has to try to provide an experience which matches the audience expectations (while also naturally following and leading the caster's commentary which is a WHOLE NOTHER THING). Anyway, we're off track from the original thread, so I won't respond to any more of these, but man, obsing, like casting, is really easy to complain about and very difficult to do well. I'm feeling in the groove today though, and proud of what I'm doing.
