I was seriously looking forward to this, hoping that Marvel will prove everyone wrong by actually creating a good character that has to struggle to become great but judging by Brie's comments it doesn't appear to be like that. Maybe I'll still go see it, but definitely not in the opening week (gotta show my disapproval with such campaigning somehow).

You actually are serious aren't you? First off, Brie Larson is a great actress, anyone who has seen "room" will understand that. Secondly you can think that she is a little aggressive with her political messages, maybe, but the message she wants to spread is still a good one and being offended by that tells me more about you than anything else. Don't go full misogynistic incel pls

What the fuck?
Are people furious that women play basketball? Is the 'integrity' of Captain Marvel called into question by the movie's association with the WNBA?
What's the outrage for, seriously?
People are outraged about Brie Larson using the attention now for spreading her believes around diversity. So basically a bunch of internet warriors being offended by the idea that there might be a problem diversity wise in hollywood and in general for people working in the entertainment industry.

These are the same section of humans that got offended when people called for more diversity in the Oscar and argued that Oscars were some sort of meritocracy. People yelling about keeping "politics" out of....art and having zero idea what the Oscars are and how the film industry works.
Captain Marvel looks like a good time. The author, Kelly Sue DeConnick, who reimagined Carol Danvers for the modern run of the comic said it best:
“Carol falls down all the time,” DeConnick says, “but she always gets back up — we say that about Captain America as well, but Captain America gets back up because it’s the right thing to do. Carol gets back up because ‘Fuck you.’
”I think that quality in her attracts people who are the same; who are always kind of trying to get back up and do better, and who have something to prove.”
Also, people who characterize her as someone who doesn't have to struggle are not similar with teh character. Her entire story centers around a loving, but sexist father that didn't believe she could any number of things. And in true protagonist fashion, she sets out to prove him incorrect. But before she can return as the fighter pilot and hero to prove him incorrect, he passes away. And audience is left with teh understanding that he would have accepted he was wrong because he wasn't a complete trash person. But that never happens, so the character is chasing validation from one person that can never happen.
As Marvel characters go, that is more struggling that most how often fall into their powers or are just staggeringly wealthy and smart just because.

Brie Larson setting up a charity to fill her and Disney's wallet with money is hilarious. As the guy says in the video ... "is this money laundering?". LOL. Battle Angel bought 2 bionic arms for a disabled girl with their charity. Brie sets up a charity that gives her money and Disney money. That is so cringe ... its hilarious.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the WNBA will lose more money this year while paying the players less than they can make any where else in the world. Paying the players below their market value and losing millions for 20+ years as everyone points fingers at each other blaming everyone but themselves... that's another laugh. Oh and that Tina Charles "layup". LOL.

What charity are you talking about?

You mean the go-fund me started by a completely separate person to raise money to send poor kids to see comic book movies. The same dude who did it a year before for Black Panther. And they raised like $50,000. Some real staggering grift there. A movie with a +100 million dollar budget is going to totally benefit from the margin they finally get after all that money passes through go-fund me and movie theaters.
But she is totally in on the deal and getting some sweet kickbacks for featuring on her professional twitter feed. No possible way that this is all bullshit created by some idiot on youtube chasing those sweet misogyny clicks. That totally isn't a vibrant outrage market on youtube.

Larson went on some talk show and promoted it. and she promotes a different GoFundMe at each talk show appearance.
if you want to go to the movie .. i'm not stopping you. I'm saving up all my entertainment budget for the Toronto Raptors big playoff run this year.

I’m sure it is some massive conspiracy to raise a very small amount of money through the fraud of taking poor kids to the movies. A long con of staggering proportions that this investigative reporter who has serious opinions on how attractive Brie Larson and featured those opinions in the title of his video. Thank god he is here to get to the bottom of this and find us a more attractive woman to play Captain Marvel.

I find the idea that anyone would believe the nonsense that youtube video is peddling very funny.

So is raising money for yourself on TV appearances. I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. So did I.

So basically a bunch of internet warriors being offended by the idea that there might be a problem diversity wise in hollywood and in general for people working in the entertainment industry. For a start do not put words into peoples mouths, if you don't understand someones comment do not go from 1 to 10 with your reply. Brie Larson is a terrible actress, if you think she is the best that is YOUR opinion in MY opinion she is awful.
The whole movie is what i hate, not what she stands for, Captain Marvel is an awful superhero and its annoyed me as to where its taken the universe and how its now going to end in Avengers. Her getting heat for what she is doing pleases me on that basis not anything else.
Also if what someone else said is true, and she is pocketing money off of her charities than that is another thing for me to dislike her for, but other than her acting and the terrible movie superhero she is playing is the only problem i have with her....

It isn’t true. It a wild conspiracy theory by one youtube account with a questionable understanding of how go-fund-me and movie tickets work. Or, what is more likely, he 100% knows the theory is BS but did it for the clicks.

Ok then thats just stupid thing to do but my poin was about her as an actress and the movie itself / avengers universe it ruins.

That is fair. Everyone has an actor or actress they can’t stand and the existence of that actor can ruin a movie. And for many people that is Jared Leto.

I put both comments into my quote for a reason, you seemed to agree with manit0u and even said "on top of being awful". Seems like a fairly easy interpretation to me. Now if you didn't mean to agree with his statements then i am not sure what you mean in the first place. I don't care for the movie much, mainly because i don't care for marvel movies period. I care more about the blatant misogyny which is thrown her way, on reddit, social media and apparently now also here in this very thread.
If you simply dislike the hero that is fine i guess edit: she is still a great actress, terrible ones usually don't win academy awards

she has set up multiple charities for each part of the world and runs around to different personal appearances trying to increase the box office of her movie by bundling herself up with "underprivileged girls". optics are better if one just donates a tiny portion of their salary outright.
"The fundraiser was launched after the film’s star, actress Brie Larson, tweeted that a “#CaptainMarvelChallenge is in order” https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/424417-brie-larson-inspires-gofundme-effort-to-send-young-girls-to-see
all this stuff is in the video. its not that big of a deal but its enough to make me lean away from watching it. i was probably going to go see it. now i'm probably not going to go see it.
the WNBA thing just adds to the comedy. the WNBA is a train wreck.
i don't like the marketing of the movie.

“Oscar winning actress and already millionaire sets up nefarious charity to send poor girls to movies to artificially inflate her box office numbers for the next installment of the most profitable movies in the world. With these charities she will send thousands of girls to a movie that will make from 500 million to 1 billion dollars worldwide no matter what she does.”
If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge to sell you in Alaska.

I just watched Life (2017)
This was pretty good. Nothing new at all but its not trying to be new or original, just fun. I found some scenes genuinely tense, the acting was great and the time watching it seemed to go really quickly. I can't help feel like it was a bit of a missed opportunity for something amazing though, with the setup and the cast.

"Outrage"//"Anger" can be seemingly illogical on the surface, however, smart entertainment business people will respond appropriately and use it to their advantage to improve business and increase revenue. Rarely, is the correct strat to engage the angry audience in some manner of "logical debate". Usually, the solution is something other than logically and rationally explaining why "the angry fans emotions are wrong" and that the fans are "wrong as people". The job of the entertainment business execs is to maximize revenue not win logical debates with fans.
Even worse than an angry reaction is no emotional reaction at all. You can't do anything with that.
