If you (a) enjoy the absurdity that flows through the scenes of a Seinfeld episode (2) think the moon landings were fake (iii) think the CIA or FBI or US military assassinated JFK
then Unfrosted is a 10/10.
For normal people the movie is weird and janky and prolly 7.5/10. Unfrosted is really only 85 minutes long.
The indictment of food scientists creating ultra processed foods was glorious. These ultra processed foods contribute substantially to the declining life span of North Americans.
If you're a fan of 20th century Americana .... Its got the Cuban Missile Crisis... JFK screwing every smoking hot elite rich chick... the Apollo 1 fire.... the Twist... Marilyn Monroe.... Walter Cronkike being a drunken idiot.... Silly Puddy ?SP? ... JFK assassination... plus so much more I could not keep up.
EDIT: i watched the movie again and it is a 6.5/10 for most non-Seinfeld fans. It remains a 10/10 for Seinfeld lovers though.
Honestly I felt quite let down. It's a great movie for what it is, but not quite up there with Fury road.
There's a lot more character driven plot this time around, we follow Furiosa from her childhood to the one in fury road.
Furyroad pretty much let the action lead the story. It had far more good action set pieces, one minute you think X is going to happen, X did happen but failed and turn into Y. The movie keeps you guessing and never quite know what will happen next.
Furiosa lost this magic, and throughout the entire movie, there's only one long chase that gets your blood pumping.
But that being said, it's still one of the best action movies in recent years no doubt. And if you are more into having a story, then this is it.

I saw the trailers and the poor reviews. Doubt I'll ever see the movie.

Felt like it was way superior to fury road. Last time I felt this on a movie theater was with the wailing.
Furiosa? Sorry George Miller but... we don't need another hero.
Furiosa was ok. The character arc of Furiosa is mid. Its dressed up with a lot of elaborate BS. Some really cool ( and prolly expensive) action sequences.
I watched the movie while I was outside watching a baseball game. That turned out to be a good move.
How do you watch a movie that just came out at a baseball game? were u watching some shitty pirated version on a cell phone or something? I just saw it on IMAX on a 30 meter screen and it was pretty entertaining. Action movies like that I go out of my way to watch on IMAX. For everything else I just go to my local theater.
I watched it in Imax theatre, absolutely loved it. I even bought the japanese limited edition 4K disc (no english sub!)
A few weeks later, it's now streaming globally, but did not regret one bit getting the disc. It's that good.
Godzilla as a franchise has evolved a few times, and most of what non-asian audience know of Godzilla is based off the more sci-fi era. More monsters, more badass monsters, more sci-fi, more godzilla form! Eventually audience interest dropped off and the franchise almost feel dead.
Monsterverse brought the interest back, afterall who doesn't love big giant monsters, but it's still falling into the same cycle.
Japan rebooted the entire franchise by going back to its root, Godzilla, Japan the nation, Japanese, the nation, the history, shared pain, struggles and persistent.
Just like Shin Godzilla, this is a love letter to the Japanese people. But Shin did it at a broad scale, there's very little personal character development, and focus more on Japan as a nation. I would go as far as saying it's tailor-made for the Japanese.
Minus one is a lot more personal, the story is not complex, but you can feel the character's emotions and even if you aren't Japanese, you really do feel for them.
Absolutely love it. What a great time to be a Godzilla fan. 10/10

The people at IMAX are as good as IMAX's tech. IMAX has been a customer of mine for 12+ years. I lived very close to their HQ for many years. Any how, I have a great copy of the movie and watched it on a 24" screen. The movie was ok. The kinds of customers who continue to buy anything and everything "Road Warriors" don't like the movie. I'm one of those people.
Its pretty hilarious that guys like Joe Laurinitis have been better at leveraging the Mad Max IP over the last 40+ years than the people who own it. From a financial perspective this movie is yet another misstep by the IP owners. "Road Warriors" merch not owned by the Mad Max people continues to sell like crazy.
"Road Warriors" fans are sitting there... waiting ... to give them money.
For Road Warriors fans Furiosa is a 5/10. Furiosa is going to lose money.. and it is a well earned loss. They fumbled the bag.

watched The Zone of Interest, cant recommend it highly enough. i paired that with the book "The Escape Artist" about Rudolf Vrba escaping Auschwitz. humanity needs help
also saw Furiosa in IMAX. so damn good, i think i prefer it to Fury Road. it had some real heart in it, please convince your friends and fam to see it in theaters, its kinda performing bad at the box office

IMO, Japan is awesome.
Pretty funny comment considering one of the focal point of the mad max saga is about how myths have to be fluids otherwise they're degenerating. And here you are, the "fans" who want another remake or maybe grand gibson in the role, locked as you are in worshipping the 80s and its cohort of shitty movies. That say, considering you're watching two things at the same time, you misunderstanding stuff you pretend to like is quite normal

This is a bit mean. There were plenty of brilliant movies in the 80s. First Blood springs to mind as an action movie that was thoughtful and interesting.

First blood ? i didn't have it, in france it's simply called rambo. There are for sure, I love blade runner for example, Terminator, alien, platoon are excellent as well. But tbh the main issue for me is how people are locked in the 80s, that's why most hollywood movie are so uncreative and the worst is that's what people want. That said, I still find ghostbuster, back to the future or rotj very dumb.
So we end up with 80 yo harrison ford playing indiana jones or some shitty remake of the new hope. Or people wanting a clone of road warrior when you have fury road which, while bringing a new world, trumps it almost everywhere, music, sound effect, visuals, stunts, pace even this sleek narration fits better. There is just the gritty aspect of road warrior which is missing, fury road is a bit too shiny and chrome, Miller could have try to make everyone dirtier to contrast even more with the sanctity of wives
Donald Sutherland died. Pretty sad. I have 4 uncles who told me they wanted to be "Hawkeye Pierce" when they grew up. Sutherland played "Ben `hawkeye` Pierce" in the movie M*A*S*H.

when did i say i wanted a remake? i said what they released is a 5/10 for Road Warriors fans. making money off of Road Warriors fans is super simple. they just don't want the money. Which is fine... there is a line up of guys from Randy Pitchford to Vince Mcmahon to Joe Laurinitis who know how to give Road Warriors fans what they want.

incorrect. Check the thread; my tastes are well documented. my favourite movie of all time came out in 1998... Jackie Brown. My #2 movie , Monster, came out in 2003 or 2004. My favourite comic book movie of all time, Batman Begins, came out in 2005 I think.
Now you guys went on to discuss a bunch of pretty meaningless 80s movies. I think stuff like "Absence of Malice" and "Dressed to Kill" are decent serious 80s movies. However, I'd say my #1 80s movie has to be "Camille Claudel" starring Isabel Adjani. My goodness this woman is super smoking hot. I'm pretty sure there is a version of this movie with english sub titles. It is a great movie. Mentor Versus Protege .... Teacher Versus Student .... Rodin Versus Claudel
"you can destroy every sculpture i've ever made ... but you can not stop me from making another one!" @1:32 is the sculpture Rodin wants destroyed. it is Auguste Rodin torn between Rose Beret and Camille Claudel.
Christopher Reeve was a great actor. The entire comic book genre of movies did not exist before Superman: The Movie. he was a nobody surrounded by veterans Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, and Margot Kidder. And yet, he pulled it off.
Seeing him holding that hockey stick... damn.
I'm going to this movie with my wife in September. I'll prolly get some that night.
Disney can pack 10,000 girl bosses onto the screens of their super hero movies... they'll never match Christopher Reeve and they'll never match Richard Donner.
If you guys want to be truly depressed and horrified, then I would highly recommend grabbing yourselves a UK VPN, going to iPlayer and watching Threads, the nuclear apocalypse drama. Its absolutely brutal but its one of those movies you have to see once, or you've been missing out. You might need subtitles though!
