wowhead attunements say you have to be exalted with Highmountain Tribe, just like with Nightfallen.
I read that as a brand new Nightfallen character will start with exalted Nightfallen rep but a Highmountain tauren will only be friendly to their own faction
is that right?

You're correct, I have made a character of both the horde's allied races and nightborne are exalted with the nightfallen while highmountain tauren are only friendly with the highmountain tauren. I just find this weird.

Yeah it was probably overlooked

No, but the composition of the areas you can visit safely changes a bit here and there.

Ok good. I was wondering if I missed something. Thanks.
How does it work with the new allied race? I assume for those sections it is phased and when you start a new Nightborne it is different.

So I have a question for all of you that played through Legion.
How was it?
I quit WoW after Warlords of Draenor, but I have been contemplating a return for Battle for Azeroth because it focuses the story back on the Alliance and Horde. After the disaster of Warlords of Draenor, I had no interest in chasing off after retconned Demons summoned by a Gul'dan from another dimension and I definitely did not like the look of the Artifact weapon system.
But was I wrong to skip that expansion? Should I come back? Have the raids introduced any top 20 boss encounters that I missed out on? Any feedback to offer would be nice.

There have been some issues especially in the first tier with balance and the game systems but as a whole it's no contest #1 for my enjoyment - modern WoW with some key improvements that change a lot about how you actually play the game day to day. B4A following up on a lot of that with some more polish should be a good time as well

I'd say there were some of the top boss fights. Lots of unique mechanics too. Fights that I most enjoyed (worth probably looking up the fight mechanics then watch a kill video) were Xavius, eye of il'gynoth, elisande, Kiljaeden, Argus, and Aggramar. I liked the visuals for Guldan, but fight wasn't super special.

I dont get why most think Legion is so much better than WoD. They say you were only really doing raiding in WoD and nothing else. Well now I am only doing raiding and 1 M+ per week. It is not that much of a difference.
The world quests are only a chore that I try to avoid as much as possible. The legendary and artifact systems had way too many issues to make them fun and boiled down to grinding and rng.
The whole demon thing was just boring and repetitive from a lore perspective. I really cant stand it, the forever similar nonsense boasts, the lack of any motivation other than being evil, the apparent intelligence of insects, the whole fiery green look etc. And Illidan only throwing the same boasts back at them did not help. Suramar was interesting though lorewise.
In the end it all comes down to the raids for me since that is what do, and I actually liked those in WoD better. Also, my class (MW) was decidedly more fun to play in WoD.

In WOD when i wanted to play more than e.g. 15 hours a week i couldn't, just nothing to do. I took to clearing challenge mode golds all over for the fifth time and selling heroic raid boosts for the 100'th time but there was no reason to really do that aside from gold, i made enough to buy £500 worth of tokens and then lost most of it to inflation because i didn't actually have anything to buy. For a raid logger the way that you spend your game time may not be all that different but you're making a choice to raid log, it's not the only relevant thing in the game.
On Legion there is a whole other raid tier, there is the mythic+ system (i've ran probably close to a thousand dungeons and enjoyed them overall). There was a lot more and better world content, less relevant for mains now but it spread out the playing a lot more than only doing raids. Better pacing with the patch every 11 weeks (WOD had no patch for.. 70% of the expansion?), kinda new system of offering player power increases every half tier to make raids initially overtuned while very reasonably clearable in the second half of the tier - the progress is more steady rather than higher end guilds instantly smashing almost all bosses and lower end guilds hitting a wall that they never get past.
If you go play a new char you can just play it for 100, 200 hours straight and make amazing gearing progress. In WOD when you did that you'd immediately hit a wall and get told to come back next reset, come back in 2-3 months when your ring is complete so that you can do the baseline level of damage to be relevant (plus 20 more weeks upgrading it to get close to the damage of a main after that, good luck!). The ability to jump onto a second char, sink a bunch of hours into it, get proper rewards for doing that and then play it on a relevant level is incomparably better than it was and probably the best that it ever has been.
Pre-max-level content has been reworked into the best state that it's ever been in after the worst state that it had ever been in in WOD; we have the allied race stuff, both technically B4A content but if it's dropping 8 months earlier then it's a huge part of the Legion experience.
Class/spec balance is the best that it's ever been

Legion:
Pros: Very good raid/content pacing. There were a couple bumps early on, but they course corrected quickly and very effectively. Being able to level through the zones in whatever order you liked was amazing. Suramar storyline was excellent. Raids have been varied and very fun. Mythic+ is an A+ feature. I am my scars!
Cons: Legendaries. The AP/AK system took essentially the entire expansion before Blizzard finally got it into a good place. Broken Shore was paper-thin content-wise. Mythic+ had a number of issues. Spec Fantasy was largely a failed experiment. Blizzard was really slow to address some major class and/or spec issues, and there are a lot of bandaids Blizzard is going to need to peel off and properly fix in BfA.
Without the first two cons Legion would have been hands-down the best expansion to date. That Legion was a great expansion despite those problems is a testament to its upsides.

Since I started Legion so late I didn't really get to enjoy dungeons yet. Everything is face roll and FAST paced. The tanks basically never stop except on a boss pull. Heroic means nothing it seems in this expac challenge wise. I have not tried Mythics yet (I need to I guess since I am at 886 ilvl) and completed every raid on normal or heroic via pugging. Maybe I should find a late starting guild that is still progressing heh. Still need to finish the Argus campaign to unlock the last raid tier and of course run some of the raids again, maybe as my restro shaman instead of my DK just to try to get a better feel for them.
Legendary system feels off as an older player just now coming back after a long break but I guess its good to have them come from other sources then just high end raid. Still seems weird that there is so many and that you can get them from rando stuff like faction caches (that is how I got my only one lol) and the RNG with Legs and needed specific ones can be frustrating.
Suramar was great and it made me glad that the Nighborne are joining the Horde. The other zones look nice and have some great moments as well. Overall questing was good. I didn't play the last few expansions so the whole Follower mission thing wasn't as tiring as I guess it probably was for players who had to do garrisons.

You haven't hit the relevant stuff yet, most people skip over heroic and often even base mythic completely. Mythic+ is where it's at - affixes, huge health/damage modifiers on everything and way better loot.

Yep, but I was still surprised at how faceroll Heroic was. Not quite sure how to do keystones for M + yet, though I think if I just join a Mythic dungeon (I guess that is M 0?) and complete it I get a keystone that upgrades every time I complete it?

Yeah
most people would just do another person's key - you'll get a lot level keystone from the box at the end. On the weekly reset you'll also get a new key in the box that is 1 level below the highest dungeon that you've done. It's a quick skip to level 10+ rather than running a bunch of trivial and unrewarding dungeons

It is not that I only want to raid log. I just dont think it is interesting to do the same dungeon more than 100 times over (or the same quest). Although the M+ system is a good feature, I really dont think it is that much content. And I dont want to play for the sake of playing and just spending time.

I played past expansions extremely casually and Legion was the first time I ever played somewhat seriously. The M+ system done it for me, having a core group of 5-6 friends and chain running M+ all day for hours every day for months after release was the most fun I've ever had in the game.
Though it's essentially dead content now, my favorite moment during the expansion was getting my challenge mode artifact appearance. At the time my guild was pretty average, ~100th on the server and we were 3/10M NH. I got the appearance on the first day it was released and it was cool seeing for the first week that the only other people with it were in the top 10 guilds in the server, made me feel like a beast. I remember feeling super proud for doing it in half the amount of attempts as Asmongold haha.
Even though I only played for ~3 months (I think I quit when ToS dropped?), Legion was definitely the most fun I've ever had in WoW in a very long time and I'm looking forward to bfa carrying on the pro's that came with Legion.

Most alts outgear heroic minutes after they hit 110 thanks to BoA Argus tokens and WQ's. You can't compare how challenging expansion start content is when your at the end of an expansion.

Even on day 1-3 of the expansion Heroic was more of the more casual players thing while we could jump right into Mythic, we just didn't farm them because it had a weekly lockout. M+ has no lockout.

Every expansion start i always farm heroics to get full gear before going anywhere else. I got lego first boss in mythic dungeon though that was nice. Got Prydaz <3 (as tank)
