Some of the problems im having are that well a lot of these bands aren't trying to be what necrophagist are trying. Most people who really know necrophagist know that they are NOT supposed to be technical wankery for the sake of technical wankery. Every song has a theme and progress, and the solos are truly epic. And another thing is necrophagist isn't actually that fast. A problem I have is that i've never been into 'heavy death metal'. With the exception of nile, I think Pantera and Metallica covered 'heavy'. I prefer melody and groove to any sort of musicianship. But whatever, for people like you haxxorised you dont need to restate your advice cos ill check out all of these bands and maybe learn a few of their songs. On a related note, does anyone play guitar/bass/sing tech death and want to do an internet collaboration with me? I'm feeling creative atm. I just wrote a song called 'aggressive organ removal for sex with organs', it's about a guy who steals hammond organs from bands on stage ^^

You could listen to Demise Empire. Demise Empire It is not really technical but its Death Metal with some soloing and some Black influences *SelfPromotionMode OFF* If you like guitar Solos, listen to Vader. They are not technical, too but their solos kick ass! Another very entertaining band is "Jack Slater" ( technical brütal Hasen death ) They are great musicians and the singer kicks ass, too! Hope this helped

You rang? If you're looking for something like exodus/slayer, Testament is a good choice. Try The Legacy, The New Order, and The Gathering. Those are probably their three best albums. Overkill would be another good choice. Also, you might want to try the teutonic metal scene out. The big three bands there are Kreator, Destruction, and Sodom, and all three of them kick ass. Tankard is another fun band, really good thrash and fun lyrics. That's the louder thrash. There's also more traditional thrash, like Death Angel, Laaz Rockit, Metal Church (you could make a case for this being heavy instead), Heathen (they rock! You can download their songs for free on their site -> http://www.heathenmetal.com/ . Click the discography and scroll down, you can find it there. Also, you can find their 2005 demo in the forums. It kills.) Then there's the crossover bands; I know three of 'em, and all three are very good. D.R.I, Municipal Waste (saw them live, they're amazing), and Nuclear Assault, the latter being more thrash and the first being more hardcore then thrash. It's in general a bit faster then thrash and the lyrics are a bit harder to understand, but it's great. There's also the new generation of thrash bands, which try to play similar to the old-school style. The biggest band here is Evile. Then a few bands which I wouldn't know where to put, like Sadus, Razor, Voivod, Merciless Death, etc, but the list is getting too long now so I'll stop here.

I totally just didn't get what the fuss was with the new album, I thought it was by far the worst peice of crap ever and all the MA reviews are giving it good scores and saying it's his most accessible album. I thought I just didn't get it. Oh yeah, and it hasn't been mentioned enough. DEMILICH! Old school finnish innovators. This band will turn the world upside down and slap you in the face. Also weird that Suffocation hasn't been mentioned itt. As far as technicality goes, the drumming is the main thing that's so amazing about this band.

Arsis were mentioned, but they are melodeath, so I figured that's not what you're looking for. In fact, in the first few pages a few non-DM bands were thrown around… My tastes generally lean more toward the prog/tech (Behold…the Arctopus, Spastic Ink, etc.), but tech death is awesome.

just to say i hate evile they r nice guys but their music is just slayer rip off through and through, at least the songs that I saw in a tv program. I thought to myself if i went to their gig and unplugged their gear, replaced it with a CD playing slayer, the audience wouldn't notice and probably neither would the band ¬¬. iNfuNdiBuLuM, yeah actually i have a bunch of that stuff already. I never really like Zappa actually, he's my one bugbear. I can't get it...neither can I get dream theatre. I always feel like he's missing something. to the person who said cynic + atheist, yes I have their discographies and i personally prefer atheist but they are both nothing like necrophagist imo. + Meshuggah...meh! There's too little melody imo. I like the rhythm work, being a drummer, thomas haake is good; but I find that well it's too much about the 'heavyness' and not about the melody which is what necrophagist is about. But loads of people have made awesome suggestions and im downloading shit now :D. thank you all! ps to that guy yeah i play drums and guitar

That's their intention . They're trying to bring that back. Sure, they could be more original, but they want to sound like slayer. Apparently, there's an audience for it, seeing as how Slayer isn't as great anymore as it was.
