They used to have K-Pop girls heavily involved in SC2 in 2011, they would do player announcements and perform at Code S finals, etc. Didn't really seem to make much difference. I won't pretend to have an understanding of Korean culture, but it seems weird to me that K-Pop girls would somehow increase interest in SC2. I can imagine some people tuning in just to see the girls, but interest in K-Pop girls and interest in SC2 seem pretty different to me. Maybe it's a Korean thing.
I'm 200% sure it's because they're hot.
Yeah that's my point. What do hot girls have to do with SC2? I mean, there's a reason why the world's most popular sports leagues don't shove scores of hot girls at viewers to promote them despite the fact that they're mostly targeted at men: it's because for a sport to be successful, interest has to come from the competition and competitors, not some kind of window dressing. Even in the US, NBA and NFL have cheerleaders but I've never met a person who became a big fan of either sport BECAUSE OF the cheerleaders.
The real reason it's so hard to build storylines for SC2 is there's too much parity. Too many strong players and too few dominant ones who naturally attract storylines by winning over and over again. This is why team leagues are so important--once you're a fan of a team it becomes easier to develop an interest in its various players, regardless of who is the player doing well at the moment.
Most established sports do actually shove attractive people in your face.

You're 200% sure? Are you making an Akdong Musician reference?! :D They're the future and saviors of Kpop, I tell you!

Indeed. Just look at Ronaldo. Of course it's still diff from kpop girls since he's a superstar in his sport.

What sports are those? When I watch most "established sports" I tend to see lots of sweaty men running around. I'm watching the World Cup right now, which is perhaps the most popular sporting event in the world, and I've not seen a single scantily clad girl, pop star or otherwise.

Exactly, a great sports star being more popular because they also happen to be attractive is completely different from the idea that surrounding a sport (e-sport or otherwise) with scantily clad hot girls will somehow make people like the sport more.
The very fact that Women's Beach Volleyball is not anywhere close to being the most popular sport anywhere in the world (that I'm aware of) should indicate that shoving scantily clad women at the screen is not the way sports get popular.
A Stork = I also feel that Blizzard doesn’t care about SC2. There were many things announced such as level up system and unit skins at the launch of Heart of the Swarm, but they haven’t developed anything new since then, or haven’t added much to the original system. Shortly after the release of Heart of the Swarm, Heroes of the Storm was announced and Hearthstone came out. I think SC2 is the only game that’s been pushed announced. I heard that the CEO’s most favorite game is StarCraft, but the treatment that it is currently receiving is the worst.

blizzard in a nutshell
The "Blizzard doesn't care" mantra is a huge pet peeve of mine. You can criticize them for how they handled WCS, balance, Kespa/GOM, but don't parade that they don't care. SC2 is a huge charity case and if they were all about the $$$ then surely they'd pool all their resources into Hearthstone.

Then again, they've promised us that SC2 is a "ten years esport experiment" only to decrease their level of involvements after shit goes sour. Do they care about SC2? Absolutely! Do they care less about SC2! Definitely!

Maybe they aimed for more but the partial result for the experiment was evaluated as an sucess. They are trying to implement esports for both Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm after all.

But is it helping SC2 in any way? I think we all know the answer to that one.
Flash and Stork seem like really awesome people and they have some great ideas, but this was kind of depressing to read. Hopefully things brighten up a bit in the future.

If you have a utilitarian outlook, it's pretty dumb of them to even invest in the scene when they have bigger IPs/cash cows. So again, how does splitting resources onto other games equate to them not giving two shits about Starcraft?

Blizzard says it made the change to make each story that much more epic and to flesh out the StarCraft universe. By splitting the game, the company says that players will access more story content, more characters, and more customization. Rob Pardo, executive vice president of game design, said that each game would be approximate in size to the original StarCraft. Each game will be a stand-alone installment – not an expansion.
Dustin Browder on… StarCraft II as a whole new game
"We're basically starting over. We get this on the team every now and then, when [someone says] 'the Siege Tank, what was it in SC1?' and the answer is 'who cares'. It doesn't even matter things have changed so much.
Flash had surgery, but the pain is coming back - in particular when playing bio. Does it sound healthy to continue? Please Flash, play only mech, or change race! If not, perhaps there will be a need for more surgery.
For most people esports careers seem neither lucrative nor long. They should prioritize their health.

If you want to get into semantics then Stork's original quote doesn't make the distinction ("less"), nor do the few people who've quoted it or the redditors who quote that one line and upvote it. Then there's the countless times this diatribe been repeated.
