also i think going along w/ this tradition, the firebat will be obsolete, flamethrower technology will be obsolete, maybe it's the new reapers replacing them

Dragoons had a very clearly defined role. :| They were very strong against large units and we used as support against other ranged units due to their superior range. Edit: Not to mention their use in PvT against vultures and early game vs unsieged tanks.

Im pretty sure thats just a doodad building.

Players can now own a piece of StarCraft history with this highly detailed, 18-inch tall statue of Terran Marine Tychus J. Findlay standing atop a freshly dispatched Hydralisk. The hydralisk isn't going anywhere

Terran: Marine, Siege Tank, Battle Cruiser Zerg: Zergling, Hydralisk, Mutalisk, Ultralisk Protoss: Zealot, Dragoon, High Templar, Carrier Any noob with even the smallest knowledge of starcraft knows each of these units. They're all completely unique to their respective races, and have very defining abillities and/or multi-purpose roles.

imo it is like this: Marines - humans... makes you think about the human marines in the aliens movies Zealots - Makes you think about the predators in the predator movies hydra - Make you think about alien from... you get it... I'm pretty sure that blizz had those movies in mind when they created the starwars univers, and that' probably why I've always liked it.

Siege tank - these basically define the way terran is played. Lurker - Infantry micro against lurkers is such a classic and exciting part of the game. (not listing marines because other than stim, they're so generic) Mutalisk - When you talk about zerg mobility and harassment, for the most part, you're talking about the mutalisk. High templar - Psionic storm, 'nuff said. Not so much the unit but the spell that's important. Most iconic I agree are the marine/hydra/zealot. That's why Blizzard made action figures out of them. They shouldn't be taken out, mostly for marketing reasons. The other units, to varying degrees, are expendable. I'm not sorry to see the dragoon be replaced. edit: good point, Moltke, vultures and their mines/raids are important gameplay units.

As to the units in SC2, it would still fit in so nicely there's just no way of removing it. The queen is probably gone, though, now that Kerrigan's the actual queen bitch of the universe

It is hard to break chokes without the hydra's support due to lack of flanking unless late game with defilers. Hydra's are more efficient vs air on most current maps. Its obvious for these 3 reasons that there must be a powerfull set of new units to replace the hydra's roles if ommited.
