Some people vote with their brain (performance), more than their heart (favorite player). Hence why foreigners in GSL are heavily voted for even though they usually get stomped.

Jaedong was pretty much objectively the weakest and most unproven Zerg that MC could have chosen. Especially as MC's builds and playstyle requires precise counters instead of solid fundamentals, it's a very good idea to pick the least experienced player. I don't think he was being cocky here, however it's also a brilliant move. It definitely will appear cocky to less informed people, maintaining his image. Beating JD is also "impressive" even though as I said he's quite mediocre in SC2 and IMO not Code S level. This is judging by his past performances, though. It's possible that Jaedong just becomes a total beast in GSL, who knows.

First would be rather difficult, unless he can do it by avoiding taeja (beats mma, taeja loses to mvp, then beats mma while mana beats mvp and then beats mma) Naniwa and squirtle SHOULD it out of that group fine. Mana has to play Taeja first
