I love CJ. Two or so years ago, I was intially a Sparkyz fan. With them trading away Shine, Luxury and Spear, and relying solely on Miracle Boy Leta for their wins (even more than Hwaseung and Jaedong!), I have lost some respect for them and thus I'm now a CJ fan. Mainly due to the fact IdrA resides on that team, as well as housing some of my favourite players.
Front Row, Left to Right: IdrA, AzAng, Movie, Kwanro, jjonga, Nbs, Memory, Orion
Middle Row, Left to Right: BByong, MIsO, Devil, Hydra, Style, EffOrt, Much
Back Row, Left to Right: Coach Kim, Iris, sKyHigh, Snow, DarkElf, sAviOr, Coach Na
Anyway, back onto those 5 topics.
1) Hunger
After winning the inaugural Shinhan Winners League over Hwaseung in an extremely close contest, CJ have never been more eager to take the overall title of SPL 08-09 champions. They have been previously unlucky in 2007 R2 (where they lost to Lecaf (now Hwaseung) ) and 2006 R2 (losing to MBC). The two teams they lost to would eventually win the Grand Final of that respective year.
While results show that CJ have been most dominant in the All-Kill format, their last Proleague win was the pmang cup some 4-5 years ago. This was when the likes of Nal_rA, Midas and GoRush were still on the team. With new talent replacing these greats, such as Movie, Skyhigh and Effort, they definitely have what it takes to take #1.
2) The Aces
Along with STX, CJ have arguably the most solid lineup out of all six post season teams.
CJ, unlike STX, have two top-class players they can rely on. This flexibility allows them to play around with their lineups, if needed.
2.1
There is no denying this, Effort has been the rising Zerg star of 2008-2009. After losing a match to ToSsGirL only 18 months ago, he has put in the effort (hah, puns) to improve. Because of this, he is one the hottest players at the moment. Although being eliminated from the current OSL with a 1-2 record, he is still alive in the MSL, with a nice 1-0 buffer against UpMagic. He also surprised many people by defeating Jaedong 2-0 (a result basically unheard of, especially in
CJ wanted a Zerg to replace Savior after his Bonjwa days have past, and after a couple of tough years looking at Orion and Kwanro, they have found it with Effort.
2.2
I foresaw current Terran ace Skyhigh's ability to rise up to become the next big Terran when I saw his Starchallenge game against Calm a couple of years ago. Ever since then, he has slowly gone up the ranks, and broke through with his impressive reverse all-kill against Hwaseung in the Winners League final and making it to the Round of 4 of GOM's Classic in Season 2.
Unfortunately, he has broken out of his standard form though. Uncharacteristic losses to the 'pseudo-invincible-in-July' July in GOM's Round of 8, along with failed cheesing of ZerO (twice) in the MSL, has seen him eliminated in all individual leagues for this season. Giving him the ability to concentrate purely on Proleague, will he have what it takes to overcome Leta twice this weekend? We will have to wait and see.
3) The Brains
This trio of players, sAviOr, Iris and Much, have been around CJ ever since it's take-over by the corporation itself in 2006. These three have also been the staple of the CJ lineup for the past 3 years. All three were drafted by CJ/GO themselves, and have been fed and raised in the CJ house.
While their mechanical skills may not be up to scratch as the other players, they provide the ability of helping out those with the mechanics. These three are the most important tools CJ have at their possession at this current time. Expect to see crowds go wild when Savior and Iris play.
4) Back-Up
4.1
Movie is a beast. Although knocked out of the MSL and GOM thanks to a certain Hwaseung Zerg, he has shown that he has the ability to knock off games from S-Class players (he was that close to beating Fantasy).
I expect him to be used as a sniper, and hell, he'll be breaking wild like how fRoD does with an AWP. (CS players should know what I'm talking about )
4.2
Funnily enough, Kwanro has also been around for as long as Savior, Much and Iris (he was drafted into the team at a ripe age of 14). Only recently though, he has been showing GOOD results (2-1 Flash anyone?). Because of this, he is in the first Quarter-Finals of his Major League career.
The reason why Kwanro stands out of the crowd of those other zergs is because of Style.
Style of aggression, never ending assaults. Similar to how July played his Zerg back in the day. These days, forumers will be shocked if they see a 12 hatch or even 3 hatch play from him.
4.3
I have to admit one thing here, Nbs sucks. I don't really see anything out of him that makes him a better player than Snow or even Jjonga. If CJ sent him out against Horang2 on Colosseum, then so be it. Good luck to him.
4.4
Now here is someone I am excited about. Hyped by IdrA as 'bigger than Movie', Snow has unfortunately shown two lackluster performances against Bisu and Bogus in the last two weeks. If it's nerves, fine. Lack of skill? Don't think so. Seeing replays of him makes me think that he is truly good. Lets hope that CJ send him out next week if they win against hite this weekend.
4.5
Most notable for winning PGL Season 4 over Lx last year, Orion hasn't been able to be sent out mostly because of CJ's excellent Zerg line.
If CJ want variation in their line-up, Orion is one to look for.
4.6
jjonga, Devil and Hydra have been showing good performances in both GOM and the just-finished Minor League. These three can be surprise packets in the lineup, but won't probably be shown anytime soon. Possibly next season though? Only time will tell.
5) Weaknesses
5.1 - Sniping
If teams play their players well, CJ can be easily defeated by a good line-up. Three unfavorable match-ups can end up a defeat for CJ. Fortunately, hite haven't done their homework and have sent out favourable match-ups for CJ.
5.2 - Fatigue?
It could be possible that Effort and Skyhigh may be overworked due to the two-game policy KeSPA has imposed. Nether the less, I know these guys are strong, and will overcome.
6) Final Words
CJ 화이팅!
Sorry if there are any mistakes in spelling or grammar, I just wrote this up while eating breakfast.
