Dream.T)SaiR KTF Pro Gamer
+ Show Spoiler +
Ninteen year old Kim Young-Jin is a pro gamer on KTF MagicNs. After Flash he's one of the top Terrans on KTF in fact. His nick is Dream.t)SaiR and he just won his ProLeague match versus hyvaa of eSTRO on monday. This interview was done shortly before that victory. He is currently ranked 102nd in the KeSPA ranking.
What is the experience like being a pro gamer for KTF?
- I love KTF, its so much fun and I get along with the team members so I like it even more. I became a pro at age 18 so its been about a year and half in KTF now
Did you have to play anyone to get recruited?
- I won the amateur league when I was 17 and the KTF coach insisted I join and at age 18 I got recommended for becoming pro.
How did you feel when you first became pro gamer?
- I felt more responsible because I had to play the game as my career now and not just for fun. First my parents didn't want me to become pro but after I became one they supported me all the way through, I still attend school and do afternoon studying. When I first came to the KTF house I remember seeing the old pros playing and it gave me inspiration and I felt I should try my best.

Dream.T)SaiR and GoRush during ProLeague Rival Battle
How different is it to play on TV compared to offline games?
- On TV I get nervous a lot and sometimes make mistake I would never do in a normal game. My first televised games was versus Sea[Shield], I was very nervous and I felt like I didn't play the way I usually do. I'm more nervous playing in proleague then on individual leagues and it feels better if I win in proleague as well. Lately I've been practicing my TvP a lot for ProLeague.
Are there internal rankings in KTF? How are you ranked?
- There is a lot of ranking tournaments inside KTF, lately I been doing very well. I recently placed 2nd. It's very hard to beat Flash. The reason being; even though he's young, his game play is perfect and cunning that's why he's so hard to beat. His macro is really insane and he is just good overall.
Are there any less known player that you think will have a big breakthrough similar to Flash?
- By.Fantasy from SKT T1, When I see By.FanTasy play I notice he has very strong basic skills and has a lot of potential. He will make it very far soon enough ^^
Since Nal_rA retired, how is the atmosphere in the house?
- There's nothing that changed in the house really, I trained a lot with Nal_rA. It was fun playing with him, his style is very unique and I liked it. I train with all of KTF equally. Its better then just training with only a few people, You have to get use to other style's as well.
![[image loading]](http://www.gosugamers.net/images/news/sair.jpg)
Was there any special reason for your name "SaiR"? You are Terran after all.
- There isn't any special reason. I just picked the name because I think corsairs look cool.
What/Who inspired you to become pro gamer?
- When I watched Lim Yo Hwan (BoxeR) play on TV I got really inspired to become a pro gamer. His micro was indeed very spectacular and his amazing strategies
Do you know anything about the Non-Korean scene?
- No, but I practice a lot on iCCup. I also believe many other pro gamers play there. I was A+ Last season of iCCup ranked #5
Thank you SaiR for taking the time to get interviewed out of your busy pro gaming schedule.
- Thanks for the interview, See you next time ^^

GosI[MvP] Amateur
+ Show Spoiler +
For those who haven't heard about the clan GosI it's a relatively well known west clan. MvP is 17 years old (18 Korean) and plays StarCraft five hours a day every day despite being in his junior year in school. He doesn't want to drop out of school, but his goal is to become a progamer.
How is your life outside Starcraft?
- I don't have a job. I'm currently a student and I go to school from 8 am to 5 pm. After that I do the typical Korean thing and play StarCraft. I have to live with my parents if I don't I wouldn't be able to play sc, I'd have no computer
How did you come up with your name, any special reason behind it?
- I came up with my name because I know MvP = Most valuable player, And that's what I want to be for my team. Its just a very nice name and I'm very motivated to becoming MvP.
How many years have you been playing starcraft?
- I've been playing for 5-6 years now. I started when I was 12 1/2 years old. It was an alright age to start at because if you look now there is so many kids quitting school just to play starcraft. I.e. Flash.. he is very young and he's a pro gamer. My hope of becoming pro gamer drives me to keep playing this game. If you have the motivation you can do anything in your life. Not just for StarCraft I'm saying for everything.
Which do you consider to be your best and worst matchup?
- I like TvZ because my control is very good and it keeps me entertained. I like to micro marines vs lurkers especially. I hate TvT it requires a lot of macro and early game micro and its very complex there are so many strategies one can do and its sometimes hard to cope with it.
Who is your favorite pro gamer?
- I like Firebathero, His games are always fun to watch and its very funny to see his ceremonies after he wins. Although after he loses he does cry T.T he should just be happy win or lose that he has the chance to be a pro gamer. Also my favorite pro team is Samsung Khan. They're the best team in Korea and they have a very big organization sponsoring them. They get a lot of money.
Is your playing style unique or did you try to emulate Firebathero?
- My style is based on Firebathero just a little but I usually just try my own style because it makes the game much more interesting. When you play with your own style you can do so many things and its always fun to see if your own style will take on good players.
Do you have any specific training partners or teachers?
- My teacher is GosI[Desire] he is a pro gamer for OGN he teaches me a little because he is very busy training himself. I just play on iccup to train usually. I'm currently B+ on iccup, but I'll reach A+ when I've played enough games.
Are you currently trying to join any pro teams?
- I try my hardest and try to get my name out there so I can join a pro team. I went to courage and made it to the 6th round and lost vs Praise[Kal]. I played Dream.T)moto he was a hard challenge for me even though I won 2:1 I lost the first game and thought I was going to lose 0-2 but I made a nice comeback and won it. I lost vs Praise[Kal] 0:2 I tried my best but wasn't enough I'm afraid.
How do you view the whole Non-Korean scene? Do you know about any tournaments or leagues outside Korea?
- No no I don't know anything about the Non-Korean scene I've just heard they're trying to get into Korea pro teams and I wish them good luck for that. I can assure you that it is very difficult and I think if you're not truely dedicated you will fail. All I can say is practice makes perfect.
Any last words?
- Thank you for the interview and I will make everyone proud by becoming pro gamer!

Natuur[Shield] Semi Pro
+ Show Spoiler +
Kang Min Park is a 18 year old Protoss player who became a semi pro 3 months ago(This was done couple months ago). He's not at any of the proteams yet, but would like to join Khan if he could because he's a big fan of Stork and Jangbi. I met up with him and asked him about Courage and other things.
Kang Min Park, or Natuur[Shield] as he's better known, has not played any televised games of course, but he's frequently played on online streams. He says he's a regular in shield's clan war lineup and that he recently beat the Neo.G clan 5-0 by himself. He also says that he believes he plays better on a stream because he thinks it's a more important game than many others. He doesn't get all that nervous and believes the few nerves he does get is more of an asset than a problem for him. Natuur only started play StarCraft about two years ago, but now he plays seven to eight hours a day.
How did you feel when you passed courage?
- I didn't know how to feel actually. I thought it was a dream and I'm like when do I wake up? It was a very shocking and exiciting moment for me then I realised it was real then I felt real happy and how I really felt, there isn't enough words to describe it. The best part was when I was receiving the title. I played neo.g_pursue in the 6th round, and the one I played in 5th round I don't remember his name but his race was Terran I beat him 2-1
How does SC affect your life and study in school being a semi pro and all?
- I always dreamt about becoming pro during middle school. Once I got to the 11th grade I dropped out of school and joined [Shield] clan and Shield academy. I dropped out because I wanted to achieve my dream of becoming pro gamer also when I went to school I didn't have time to play a lot or at all. I trained in shield academy for 10 months and finally was good enough to earn a semi pro title. After I won my semi pro title I started going back to school on weekends.
Do your parents support you with your SC life or do they want you to study? How did they react when you dropped out of school?
- They supported me from a very early age with whatever I wanted to do because they didn't want me to regret anything. They are very caring. I did feel sorry afterwards that I chose the SC path instead of studying. But in the end life is too short to regret anything I'm just glad I'm allowed to do what I want. Life should always be this way. Do what you want without causing damage to others^^
What do you plan on doing with your life once SC is no longer popular and sponsered?
- I haven't really thought about it before, but if I do become successfull with sc, I hope everything will be fine with whatever happens after
A lot of people say Blue storm favors Terran in the match up TvP what are your thoughts on that?
- It favors Terran in late games and long ones. But there is a lot of strategies the Protoss can do in the beginning or even middle game to destroy the Terran before he has a chance to do anything to you. I believe Blue storm is the most balanced map compared to any other.
What are your thoughts on Andromeda?
- In PvT I believe it gives the Protoss an advantage early on and somewhat mid game because of the huge middle regardless still balanced but PvZ its harder to play against because zerg mine so quickly on that map due to the close expos. Regardless I think it is a fairly balanced map and very fun to play on it just depends on your style
Do you know anything about the non-Korean scene?
- I know of Draco, ToT)Mondragon(, PJ, IdrA and MYM clan. When I just started SC I saw some of their replays and I thought they were good. Sometimes they (foreigners in general -editor's note) request me to play them so I just use my 2nd best race Terran and play them. I usually beat them I have a winning record vs all the foreigners I played but this guy simpl[7th] is good he beat me couple times. I also watched Blizzcon a while back.
What are your thoughts on the foreigner community?
- I like the events they do, I also like WCG. What the foreigner community is doing is great I really appreciate the work and I do really like the foreigner community
Would you ever like to compete in a event such as blizzcon if you got the opportunity?
- If I did it would really be great just to compete in such an event. I wouldn't really worry about my results. Its a really fun event to watch so playing in it would really make me happy and whatever the results are I'm fine with them ^^
If you had to make a pro team which five people who would be in it?
- Stork, Savior, Jaedong, flash and Jangbi
How did you come up with your name? Does it symbolize anything?
- Natuur is a icecream company in Korea, I really like icecream ^^. And a celebrity who made the commercial for it, I'm a big fan of her and it almost could mean Nature and I love the Nature
Would you like say anything to the people that will read this?
- First, I'm happy that non-Koreans know about me. Also I'm really flattered that people like my game style ^^. I like the foreigner community they're great and their events like Blizzcon are amazing and I like their work! I will try my best so keep on the lookout for my name. Ty for interviewing me.

Samsung KHAN, Because I want to watch Song Byung Goo (Stork) play up close. He is my favorite Protoss player of all time he is just amazing.

I used to study premed and I just stopped 9 months ago, I stopped because I want to achieve my dream of becoming a pro gamer. If I fail becoming one I will resume my studies and become a doctor.
Did you ever go to courage?
I have gone 7 times and counting. The first 3 times I went I always got to the 3rd round then after I started improving and I made it far as the 6th round.
Who was your biggest challenge in courage?
n.Die_asam was my biggest challenge, He is now a pro gamer for the team oong Jin (Hanbit), His macro and micro is insane I was just lucky enough to play him, He was winner of that courage league
Will you go to courage again and do you think you will pass this time?
Yes, I'm not sure, courage is very hard. I hope to pass though wish me good luck ^^
Any last words?
Thanks for interviewing me and I hope to do this again when I pass courage or become a pro gamer.

I know you went to courage, how many times did it take before you passed and how was it?
- I quit sc for 4 years and I just started up to train again I went 15 times to courage and passed on 40th edition of courage. I played haedori[name] and mong[name] in the 5th and 6th round. Haedori was the most challenging of those two, He is SKT1 pro gamer now, he is protoss
Tell us a little about your matchup.
- TvP is my best matchup and TvZ is my worst. I was lucky and didn't play any zerg in courage when i passed that.
What was your best match up / worst during courage?
- TvP My best match up, and TvZ is my worst( I was lucky because I didn't play any zerg in courage when I passed). I really like TvP because I don't have to work hard at it, I already know all the strats toss can do vs me I know my opponents well.
Are you currently trying to join any pro teams?
- Yes, SKT1, Khan. I wouldn't mind if any of those team picked me I would be happy. I tried out for SKT1 and played Mong_LT, n.Die_sOO and KT.MGW)Tosslove. I lost five times and beat sOO once. I know it sounds like an excuse but I was really playing bad that day and I got nervous.
Do you have a favorite player or team?
- SKT1 and iloveoov. I'm sad that oov has retired, but there are still replays I can watch. His memory will go on. Also he is a coach so if I ever join SKT1 I would be really exicted getting coached by Iloveoov

What do you know about the non-korean scene?

Do you play iCCup?
- I got A last season with 75% win ratio, I was close to getting A+ though but very hard T.T. At the moment my iCCup rank is B, the ratio is secret ^^

By.Raid EX-KTF Pro Gamer
+ Show Spoiler +
What is your name, age, race and team?
- Park Jung Woo, 22, Zerg, KTF
What was it like when you first became pro?
- I was happy when I became pro because I was an amateur for a long time, and often quitting and starting over. I thought I would never achieve my dream of becoming a pro gamer.
When did you become pro gamer?
- I became a progamer through a draft in 3/15/07.
Whats the difference of when you played Starcraft when you were an amateur then that of when you are a pro?
- Playing as an amateur is just for fun while playing as a pro has a lot of responsibilities such as team reputations and it seems to me that winning matters more.
Did you have to play anyone to get recruited?
- Draft is after when you win a tournament on courage, some of the teams pick a few players that won courage to be a progamer.
What was your first memory going into KTF Camp?
- There were a lot of famous players like Kang Min, Hong Jin Ho, Park Jung Suk and I was amazed to see them when I first came to the KTF camp. I used to go around traveling with them.
Where did you travel with them?
- Mostly, we go traveling before ProLeague season or after. But the most recent place we've visited is jaeju-do, an island nearby Korea.
Do you have a server that you prefer?
- I just like to practice with my teammates, but I often play ICCup.
Are maps that were used in 2008 Proleague: Medusa, and Andromeda good for Zerg to play on? If not, why?
- For Medusa and Andromeda, playing as Zerg is good since Andromeda has a lot of resources and there's a free mineral expansion inside the main for Andromeda.
How different is it to play on TV compared to a game not shown on TV? Do you get nervous and make mistakes or just get excited?
- Playing on TV goes on records and is saved, but not on TV - since it doesn't really get much attention.
What do you play better on?
- I think I play better when many people are watching.
Have you ever played on any clan broadcasting matches?
- I notice that there are quite a few clan war broadcasts, but I don't play so often on it. I've been concentrating on Proleague, MSL and Starleague.
How much free time do you get as a pro gamer? And how do you spend it?
- I get to rest during weekends, but during seasons it's hard even to get any rest.
Who was the first person you beat on a TV match?
- Instead of an individual match, my first win was a team match against Hanbit on proleague. It was me and Jang Ju Hyun against some new players - I don't really remember their names.
How effective is your Zerg strategy against other races? Is it easy to win or is it hard?
- I think my strategies are good for Protoss, and against Terran it is quite hard. Win some lose some
Then, are you ready for this season's proleague?
- Yes, I've been practicing very hard more than 15 hours a day I think my preparations are going well.
Then what match up are you practicing the most?
- I've been practicing against Terran the most since ZvT is my weakest match up.
How do you plan on improving your ZvT?
- I don't know how to improve my ZvT yet, but I'll improve with constant training and talking about it with my teammates.
What advice to give to anyone who wants to improve their ZvT on a lower level then pro gamer?
- Most people lack the ability to control their mutas properly and macro at the same time. If you can become better in that aspect you will become a much better player.
Is it ok to expect a lot from you this upcoming proleague?
- Yes, why of course =) I will do my very best! **NOTE**Sad he retired =(
Special thanks to O)Spirit, nongminbonggi and BeDazed.

What are your thoughts on the new proleague maps? Balanced/Fun? If not, how so?
- I think the new proleague maps are a remake of old maps with a bit of new twist. I don't think they're balanced. They look very bad to me and not fun. Zerg will have the hardest time especially on the map Chupung Ryeong. They need at least 4 gas to move units freely and smoothly.
Have you ever played on TV?
- Only online streams, on AfreecaTV.

Would you ever like to come to USA to meet some foreign gamers? Maybe on a event like BlizzCon.
- If I could get visa I would love to. I only see time and money as the only problem though.
Would you ever like to compete in a event such as BlizzCon if you got the opportunity?

What is your name, age and race?
- Shin Gwi Ho, 19, Zerg, and I'm an amateur still as I failed Courage.
Have you gone to Courage before?
- Yea, I gone 5 times and I usually get to 5th round only T.T
What is the difference between in playing a game at home than at courage?
- I concentrate a bit more for Courage because you have to pay to play.
So while you're at Courage, do you play better because you concentrate harder?
- No, because I get really nervous even if I'm concentrating harder.
How much is the fee to join courage?
- 10,000 won (roughly 8$ in USD)
Can anyone join? Or is there a special requirement?
- No special requirement, anyone that is an amateur can participate in courage.
Whats the average skill level on courage tournament?
- Hm, it's really all random, sometimes it can be a chobo sometimes a real gosu!
Whats the average skill based on brain ladder?
- Below 1200 is chobo, Above 1500 is gosu.
How much can you get on brain ladder / how much did you get last season?
- I don't go on brain much only 10 hours a week, but for this season I got 1650 and for last season I got around the same as 1650
How many years have you played StarCraft?
- I played for 6 years total, but it's only been a year since I started playing starcraft seriously.
How many games/hours do you play a day? Week?
- Sometimes I play 40 games a day around roughly 15 hours. Sometimes very little, but in a week you can average that out ^^
How does SC affect your social life? School?
- I don't study even though I do go to school, I usually play SC through the school computer. It does have an effect on me and my social life but I still have many good friends so doesn't really effect it that much.
What is your school background?
- I got to a industrial information high school. It's a special type of school where you get to have a job right away. That high school also has a game related category for people who wants to get a job related to gaming. There are players better than me at my school.
What type of job are you going to go for?
- Pro gaming :D
Who is your favorite pro gamer and pro team?
- I like SKT1, and the pro gamer JulyZerg.
Is your playing style based on JulyZerg, or do you have your own playing style?
- Nope, I have my own flavors ^_^ It makes the game much more interesting, I advice everyone to play with their own style. ^^
What is your best match up?
- My best is ZvP.
What advice can you give to people improving their ZvP?
- Produce a lot of units, create drones properly and upgrade well. Make overlords so you can create units. Don't stop making units. Don't let the opponent drop on you.
What build order do you recommend in ZvP on Andromeda for example?
- 4 hatch hydra -> lots of drones -> overlord drop. Don't allow the opponent to take an island.
How do you plan on improving your other matches ups considering ZvP is your best?
- I don't really care about ZvZ but ZvT I would plan on improving my mutalisks and multitasking.
Special thanks to O)Spirit, nongminbonggi and BeDazed.
ESC.Arew
+ Show Spoiler +
Hello, EffOrt here reporting with a current interview with the player ESC.Arew
Hi arew, what was your overall experience in the eSi league?
- Hello, ESI league staff, the league is great and the opponents are really strong and I had a hard time playing against them. Playing in this league you can see your skill level outside of Korea, because all the top players from all over the world even China play in this league.
How did you prepare for your matches? did you train specially and tried one build order on certain maps or did you just mass game?
- First when I know the first map and team I'm playing against, I practice match up's I could play on that map. Then I just play on maps I dislike most, thats all
When ESC knew they were in the semi finals against ToT) how did they train? Did the training become more intense or was it just the same?
- Since we reached semi final's we practiced more. no one of us knew, who would be picked to play against ToT), to say that practice hours was the same would be a lie. Some of the players played ladder, and some practiced with each other. To play against each other is possible in the evening or at night, since at day time no one is online. I think the main way we practiced was ladder
Now ESC has lost, what do you think the team could of have done better to show better results?
- ToT) is a really good team, it's always tough to play against them. I think they practiced more than we did, I always seen more ToT) players online than ESC's. The draw wasn't best for us too, I think next time ESC will win

The finals are soon here, with ToT) against Fnatic.msi what're your predictions on that match?
- It will be very close, if it turns out to the ace match, I think ToT) will win. If it doesn't get to the ace match, it's really hard to predict. Anyone in ToT) could win against any fnatic player, In my opinion Ret and F91 will win their matches for sure
everything else will depend on the draw, I'm still with ToT) since I was there, I'm fully cheering for them, gogo ~
Thx for the interview any last words?
- it was my pleasure
