Well, the drama gets deeper over at Ideal Space, the pro gaming team that includes (among others) Yellow (more on him below), Nada, KOs and formerly Boxer. First, Boxer leaves the team under far from amicable circumstances. Now, in an apparent rift with the team over his "inability to adapt" to the team's environment, IntoTheRainbow (P) ("Kim Sung-jae"), the famous protege of IntoTheRain, has decided to quit the IS team, as well. All is definitely not well over there in that organization.
There are still rumors flying all over the place about the exact circumstances of IntoTheRainbow's departure (some say he may have been forced out, tho IS has vehemently denied this and insists Kim left on his own and without prior consultation with them), but whatever the case may be, IS has made it clear that despite his departure, Kim is still under contract with IS and that he will not be permitted to join another pro team nor seek a professional agent until the end of its term. Kim may participate as an independent in whatever tournies he can, but that's it. IS has however left open the possibility of "trading" IntoTheRainbow to another pro team, if the right offer comes along (Who says SC isn't a sport?).
Many in Korea have condemned IS's hardline stance on the lad (he's not likely to survive for long on his own no matter how good he is - just ask Boxer how tough it was practicing without a team), tho many others have sided with IS's decision to enforce the letter of the contract with IntoTheRainbow (it's a business, afterall, isn't it?). In any case, IntoTheRainbow's sudden exit has further fueled speculation that he may soon join Boxer as a member of Boxer's new "team" - with or without IS's blessings. Whether IS chooses to enforce its contract in such a context (Is Boxer's team REALLY a pro team? Just a SQUAD? Is there a difference?) is, again, a matter of speculation at this point. However, it should also be noted that one of Boxer's alleged reasons for leaving IS in the first place was because Boxer's dad did not feel IS had provided Lim with the proper Protoss sparring partner in preparation for Boxer's battle v Reach in the SKY 2002 OGN final - an indirect insult to IntoTheRainbow as he's the only toss player in the IS team. Given this sore history, would Boxer or even IntoTheRainbow consider joining forces even if IS were to allow it?
Tune in next time folks. SC is not just a game, not just a sport - it's a friggin' SOAP OPERA!
NOTE: For those of you who can read Korean, check out the IS team's official response to this affair here. Yeech, what a mess...
[EDIT] Oh yeah, did I mention Yellow? He's also reported to be in negotiations with a "big bucks" sponsor. Looks like he wants out, too. But, really, with the kind of sponsorship cash being thrown at "independents" like Boxer (and Grrr before him), the temptation to strike it alone is greater than ever. Why split the ca$h 7:3 when you can keep it all yourself? And SCREW the "practice environment!"

interesting maybe this was all a scheme all along with boxers dad in on it (keke) having him leave after ongamnet and now itr leaves

Hey Mens, got a question for you. Did Boxer's contract with IS get terminated when he left? Did he or IS buy the contract out? Seems strange that IS is being tough on Kim, but let their best and most popular player leave.

Boxer left when his contract with IS expired. Look for Yellow to bolt also when his time comes. Going "independent" is risky (fewer quality practice partners, "looser" atmosphere, lack of facilities, etc.), and success is far from guaranteed no matter who you are, but the very elite players like Boxer and Yellow will try it out anyway (as did Grrr in his prime). The $ incentives are just too great, imo.

Boxer's new sponser, the TongYang Confectionery, pays him 160,000,000 won/yr (or US $132,000). It's in old news btw.

He collect 120.000 but IS team took 1/2. It's not so hard to manage yourself instead of allowing a progaming team to rip you off. As a progamer in Korea all you have to do is play all day long and sometimes get new training partners and make new friends. This can be done by anyone not only by Boxer. Wtf... they got no school classes to attend to, they have all the time in the world to handle themselves the situation, they don't need any progaming team that takes 1/2 of their prizes. You will see more and more progamers quiting their team unless team will start beeing more fair and give players money insteaf of ripping them off.

I'm just wondering: why player cannot have good practice without a team? As far as I know all gosus have gosu friends online. Why they cannot help?

In general tournaments ask team managers how many and which players they want to have in their tourney. It's kind of impossible when you're not on the very top to be a progamer without a team. Though I don't see why Boxer needs it either. He can go up to any tournament and they will beg him to play..

It's still different. Players on the same team work and play together. They move on similar schedules and can provide instant feedback. On the other hand, without a team, it's very tough scheduling decent practice sessions, even for Boxer (that's been his #1 complaint since leaving IS), against the very best players. Sure you might be able to play a game or two here and there, but the sessions won't be as intensive and efficient. A lot of wasted time juggling schedules and you definitely don't learn as much as when playing against teammates who can sit down afterwards and talk about what went on in a game.
There's simply no comparison. Not at this level of play.
