Yesterday I turned on Much Music, and saw the standard mob of fans screaming around the chum building. I wondered which musician was showing up that night, so I watched for a bit.
It turns out this insane group of 14 year olds were freaking out about a movie based on a series of romance novels that hadn't even been released yet. Later that day I watched the new episode of south park and saw that it's theme was the "vampire fad".
Where the hell did this come from? What marketing did these Twilight movie people do to get kids so excited about a movie pre release? It's not like it's a sequel to a popular franchise or something, and I haven't heard of any of the actors before.
To be frank, I feel like an old man and I'm interested as hell to hear what marketing was involved to start this fad, and why it was so effective. Apparently that movie is doing huge coin at the box office as you read this.
they are a "PG" series of romance novels sold at mainly at wallmart, covertly as "vampire" fiction... it was a hick thing initially, mainly in the 13-15 age group, almost 99% girls.
went and saw it with my ex the other day, its a decent move tbh, but hell, all those damn girls screaming in the audience going "AAAAW" at evey kiss and laughing insanely at every supposedly funny line. The move was fairly entertaining but what really had me going was the audience, it was completelly hillarious.
My gf asked me about this movie, and I didn't know shit apart from hearing about the book series beforehand (the original title, Twilight Saga, sounded familiar).
Now I'm really glad she doesn't know a thing about this - but I guess she wouldn't be into vampires anyway.
In august I went over to live with my friend at UCSC for a few days before school started. We were going to chill with a couple girls that we know so we went over on campus an called them over to go to the beach with us. So one of them was sucked into this book and brought it along for the trip. She ended up reading the book the WHOLE TIME we were at the beach and on the trip back. When I talked to her she said that all she has been doing is reading this Twilight series for like the past week or so. She has also painted her nails black and wears black clothing.
I fucking pray she hasn't seen the movie yet. I wanna ask her out to go see it.
