Go if you have a girlfriend you want to win kudos points with. Also your girlfriend has to be somewhere the age of 14. I agree with most of that, and also that the majority of the fans are younger girls, but I've personally met a LOT of girls on a couple of different college campuses that are pretty into it too, including my girlfriend who's almost 21. Though, a lot of those girls have been asian, and in my own personal experience asian girls tend to be a little bit more childish in certain aspects than girls from other races, so that may or may not have something to do with it, but I've definitely seen more than just older asian girls into it. I think the difference is that they don't get as excited as the younger girls about it and don't do any of that "dressing up" stuff that a lot of the younger ones do. At least from what I've seen. I saw the movie without knowing anything about the story except that it was a romance with vampires, and I personally didn't think it was all that bad of a movie. It was definitely cheesy at parts, and clearly a chick flick, but it was fairly tolerable. The vampires definitely made it more enjoyable for me though. Most Asian (American) girls are immature for their age because that's how they perceive Americans act. Of course, it's always hopelessly outdated, hence why you always see those Asian American girls who are always using terms like, "Like oh my god" or curling hair acting teeny bopper in general. This state is also occasionally shared by Asian American males as well though they tend to act more "hyper masculine" (again throwback to a less mature age). I can elaborate more into how this is all a reaction to treatment (though racism against Asian Americans is thankfully rare in Teamliquid for obvious reasons so kudos on the site for that) to Asian Americans in the US but I think that will derail the thread even further =D. Suffice to say, I didn't think there is a good or bad to this movie since "chick flicks" are reviewed on a ... different level ... than movies I'm used to, I find found the movie a bit lackluster like many chick flicks. =)

I'll admit I was confused when it exploded like this. I read the books when they came out, and I enjoyed them, but I had no idea it was so popular. I saw previews for the movie, and all of a sudden, this book that I didn't really think anyone else had read had become front page news everywhere. I was sort of shocked. Think of it this way. It's a cheesy vampire romance novel. If you accept that going in, it can be enjoyable. I came up with a little analogy after dragging my boyfriend to go see it. He thought it was terrible, and described the movie as "softcore porn for 15 year old girls." Which I admitted was a pretty good description. So I reminded him of some time he had dragged me to some crappy action movie. Now I love action movies. I love *good* action movies. You know, with a somewhat believable plot and likable characters and semi-realistic violence. The movie he dragged me to though, was abysmal. I found myself laughing at the stupidity, the retarded bad guys, the lead girl running through traffic in heels, etc etc. And so I argued with him, "why the hell did you want to see this horrible movie?" And it came down to "hot girls, explosions, guns, etc etc etc". Apparently that's a recipe for a decent action movie. And twilight is no different. "hot guys, vampires, romance, drama, etc etc", and you have a recipe for a movie that will at least attract a lot of viewers. It's a guilty pleasure. It's not a deep book by any means, but it serves a purpose. To read about sappy vampire romance. Just think of it as another retarded action or horror movie that was so dumb you wanted to find whoever made it and have them euthanized. "Holy shit that was bad", you think to yourself, as it makes millions of dollars. That being said, the movie sort of sucked, and violated my image of the twilight world. I really hope they do not make movies out of the rest of the series.

There are some horribly bad movies I like just because they have cool action and attractive women. I guess the only annoying part is the girls that go so far as to say how deep Twilight is, and how pure and true their love for its characters. But I guess I was like that as a teenager too.
