How do you Follow Progaming?
Now that you know all about the scene in Korea, how can you watch it? How can you keep up with the scene? Over time, coverage of the scene has moved from text-only to full video coverage. If you are new to StarCraft, you have truly arrived in the Golden Age.
Live Video
There are a couple ways to watch your favorite leagues live. Be warned however, that unless you live in the Korean timezone, the games can be at odd times. To see dates and times of the games, check out the calendar of events at the top of the page. All times are in Korean Standard Time.
- Livestream Streams
Many TL users have taken advantage of the services offered by http://livestream.com and relay the OGN/MBC streams during broadcasts. A list of active Livestreams can be found at the top right of any page on TeamLiquid. These may or may not be relays of a broadcast, however the chances are that if a show is "On Air" (as signaled by the calender) then the majority will be relaying the cast. A list of active relay streams is generally posted in the OP of the Live Report thread. - VLC Stream
Thanks to some of TL's most valued contributors, occasionally you may see a VLC player link pop up in a Live Report thread. This link is a private relay of the stream set up by one of TL's users - to use this link just copy and paste it into the live stream option in your preferred player. These links are not always available, so it is wise that you do not depend on them - however they are usually available for all major Starcraft matches (e.g Finals). - OGN Direct Stream
This stream is provided by OGN themselves and can be used to watch the OGN channel any time of the day. Simply open this link mms://liveongame.gscdn.com/L1 in your media player of preference and viola! This is a high quality stream (800k) so you will need good internet to watch. - live.plu.net
MSL streams are usually difficult to come by, but this site always has a reliable MSL feed during broadcasts. However, there is usually Chinese commentary along with this which some users find annoying. You will have to install a third party application to be able to view either of these streams (no spyware has been detected in either). You can access these streams here - Yaoyuan.com
Yauyuan is a large Chinese site which hosts a peer to peer stream for most major StarCraft events. By visiting their website, and downloading the P2P program TVAnts, you can watch live StarCraft during broadcast times. - GOM Player
GOM Player is used to watch the GOMTV Classic. All the information you need for installing and running this nifty little program can be found over at http://gomtv.net
Thanks to R1CH, there is also an English index available to watch previous games at your leisure, and a connection to the live stream.
You can download GOM Player here.
To use the English index (strongly recommended), follow the steps in this thread.
+ Show Spoiler [Outdated Methods] +Note that these may still work- Daum Player
Daum Player is the media player which is used to watch live Starcraft on the OGN and MBC channels. You can use this to watch OSL, MSL and Proleague. There is an excellent guide to installing it here, written by snowbird. It is a simple program to use, and games are easy to find by simply clicking the StarCraft pictures. However, Daum Player requires a strong internet connection, as its stream is of good quality.- Daum Sports
The Daum Sports stream is a relay of the Daum Player stream but streamed at a much lower quality. This stream only requires that you have Windows Media Player 11 installed for it to work. The links for the games constantly change and consequently getting the right stream can sometimes be confusing. There is an excellent guide to using the Daum Sports stream located on Teamliquid here if you are interested in finding the streams for yourself. Or, alternatively, in most Live Report threads the Daum Sports stream for that match will be posted in the op or in the first few posts so you can get the stream there as well. - Daum Player
Recorded Games
If watching live is not convenient for you, there are several great options for watching games later. TeamLiquid employs a strict spoiler-free environment to cater to those people.
[*]Teamliquid.net Sidebar Script
There is an excellent guide on how to install and use Teamliquid's Sidebar Extension script which gives a VLC link to one of the GOMTV servers. This allows you to watch a GOMTV stream without using GOM Player. This can only be used for MSL games and GOMTV Classic games. This service is not perfect, and contains some bugs - but it is a useful alternative to the conventional streams. You can view the guide for this here.
- Torrent
Using BitTorrent technology, and thanks to our dedicated seeders, you can download full, high quality versions of the games from our TeamLiquid.net tracker. You can view the tracker by clicking on the “VODs” button on the top menu bar. This will take you to the tracker. The uTorrent client is recommended. In addition, please seed the files that you download, so that our main providers can then move on to newer games. - Small VOD Thread
Thanks to the efforts of the tireless Yakii (the only 2 star member of TL), a place where people could store small sized VODs was created and called the Small Vod Thread. The games stored here are of lesser quality than the torrents, but often arrive faster. The YouTube videos are uploaded by BaeZZi (on the Jon747 account) and zatic (on the Nevake account) on YouTube. Also, these games are linked into the TeamLiquid Player Database. If you enjoy this thread, be sure to send a PM or leave a message. - Daum Player
The Daum Player, used for viewing Starcraft channels, serves a dual purpose as a way to watch VODs. Carefree Me has written a comprehensive guide which guides you through the whole process of getting VODs. These VODs are of the same quality as the Daum streams.
Any questions?
If you have questions feel free to post in this thread without fear of ridicule. I'm always happy to help a fellow fan watch Starcraft. I would prefer if you didn't PM me though, some people may have the same questions so feel free to ask them in the thread.
