The new OSL banner, made by Xeofreestyler!
Last Friday the second half of the OSL talent pool got to show their stuff. Here are the games and a brief report as we cruise into the second week of action.
Game One: Sea vs Best on Troy
- The picture they chose for Sea’s profile looks great, but Best looks like a damn alien.
- When are they going to break out the new opening? They better do it next Friday. I see the booth girls are still cheering for SK in their red and white.
- Pure build order rape. You think Sea is psychic? Not much to say about this game. We saw the same positions as last time, but it didn’t really matter. Sea didn’t even build a factory.
Game Two: Stork vs Rock on Katrina
- I love the fact that they brought back the map previews, and now they are doing it with some sweet computer graphics. It almost looked like those old Breeze pics of lotem.
- Katrina is all about protoss, so I guess PvP is alright. Stork has to be the favorite here, but I will always cheer for Rock v2.0
- Stork plays so smart. His probe in Rock’s main not only delayed an expo, but kept Rock worried about possible attacks by luring away goons. In the meantime Stork expoed and deflected Rock’s attack with a well placed pylon and ranged goons while rock thought dts were coming and made cannons. This wasn’t even close.
Game Three: July vs Luxury
- I’m really curious how ling fights are going to work out in the middle of this map because of the lack of vision. I bet the winner is the one who takes the initiative.
- Could you ever imagine a two hatch/two gas July could lose to one hatch/one gas Luxury? Really disappointing from July, since he basically had the game in the bag.
- I think a topic people have not examined enough is the effect of next generation muta-micro on ZvZ. There was a time where ling/scourge was a viable strategy, but not anymore. Muta micro is simply too strong, and scourge too slow.
Game Four: Much vs BackHo on Blue Storm
- Go go old man winter! This map is really fascinating for PvP because of those mini-chokes and the ramps. You can’t really go goon heavy, so you have more zealot fights. This reduces the effectiveness of storm too. Any map that changes the matchup a bit excites me.
- Well, BackHo proves me right and shows that too many goons = death on this map. Not a very exciting game, just SimCity PvP.
All in all, a very pedestrian night in the OSL. Next week features some great matchups though:

Jaedong vs Sea should be a highlight, as they are both undefeated. Sea has pulled out some improbable victories on this map while Jaedong is… Jaedong. Bisu and July should also be good. Blue Storm is going in the zerg direction, but Bisu is a monster and July is already down 0-1. Finally, Yarnc gets to play on a new map for the second straight week. Lets hope he puts forward a better showing than he did before.

I was scared of this after Savior’s first loss. Having to play a P on Katrina is tough, and Savior seems to have a mental block on this map. Xellos beat down Luxury’s brother on Blue Storm a month ago, so Lux will be looking to avenge that, while Much will be much too smart for Frozean on Troy.
A big thanks as always goes to Yakii, Blind, and VOD-o-matic for providing us with games.
