MyM & StarCraft
Good writing does not happen just at Tl.net & GG.net. It is good to see stuff like this come from different sites. Site in question MyM who has perhaps the best integration of all its functions, from news, messaging, to blogging etc.. pity about those minute icons and all the non essential games (i.e. all not StarCraft.)
I have always though that the fact our game has not made it properly in multi-gaming sites is as much as our weakness as our strength. In general StarCraft has difficulty surviving in multi-gaming sites; I don't really know why. Stubbornness? Lack of support? Lack of numbers? But it really would help our game if we did better.
Anyway I digress. For those of you who have missed them, three very good articles in dire need of reading. I know MyM don't really need the help, they are doing well regardless, but their StarCraft editors, particularly Alpine, has been pumping out some really decent stuff over there. It is the readers, that make the editor, that fuel him. So if you are interested in reading more, and willing to share a few seconds, leave an encouraging remark there or leave a decent rant. Without feedback, we that like writing for others, write less and wither away.
{adding spoilers soon}
MoTR#5: SarenS v iNcontroL After a several month hiatus, the Master of The Races Showmatch series has returned to MeetYourMakers.com! During it's time here, the showmatch ran for four best-of-seven matchups as several top players got their chances to compete. For those who are unsure of how the MoTR works, it's basically a King of the Hill style series, where the winner from one match advances to the next round, and is matched up with an opponent of a varying race than the ones he's already beaten. For those skilled, and lucky, enough to defeat one member of each race, and a random/racepick player, they will be rewarded with $50 & a new Raptor K1 Gaming Keyboard!

Pj, Lx, & F91 Compete in Chinese Tour The Player's Labor Union (PLU) of China has just begun yet another tournament for the countries greatest players. Appearing just a week after the completion of the IEST 2006 tournament, China is certainly becoming one step closer to South Korea in the e-Sports sector everyday. This tournament has invited 6 of the best Chinese gamers to take part, and we at MYM are truly proud to see 3 of those members also belong to our own ranks! China MYM.Pj, China MYM.Lx & China MYM.F91 have all been chosen to take part amongst this strong field, also containing China Super, China Phoenix66 & China Chinatttt. The first matches of the tournament were played earlier today, and for all the viewers out there, the PLU has set up a LIVE stream at their homepage (link at bottom of this article).

My suggestion to Alpine, as it is to several other sites without a significant reader base, it so find a niche to cover that other sites are neglecting, or doing poorly. The problem I have found with the mym site is that there does not seem to be a theme there. They have not given me a reason to think their site is the authority on something, when I know I can go out and read it somewhere else.
The best way to do this is on internal features. The race showmatches is a good example of that. There are also under represented parts of this community looking for a voice, and it is that kind of stuff that MYM needs to pick up on.
Of course, it doesnt help that the BW team seems to not be active. (maybe i am wrong on this, but I dont see much about mym these days.)

nobody is asking you to pay anybody, its just sponsor things on the side. Without them there is no team so its a tradeoff...anyways manifesto offered good advice but the problem is that alpine is a 1 man news team and well theres only so much he can do. Mainly what I think he does is spread sc news to the w3 guys that mainly visit mym because thats the main audience there. It has worked somewhat as some of those guys have gotten interested in bw. But I'm sure there are some other things that he could find that might lure bw people in to read bw news. Only time will tell I guess

Yes, but I think all these things, like any mym insider stuff is only available for pay. So they may have that stuff, but I dont know.

K thanks, no big deal, they were just the same pics the articles had. Removed the fugly broken links. I copied my MyM profile, cause it was one of my better ones, to my tl.net profile finally (had to renew my password cause I had forgotten it; probably why tl.net has so many empty profiles!)
|
They are not broken, I guess the mYm website, doesn't allow hotlinking of images.

Ya I asked, they don't want beefed up stats is one reason I was told (if pics link are set to work their stats go up artificially, apparently they want real stats - I assume for sponsors; I suggested they recode it cause pics with logos/site address, when shared freely, if one has the bandwidtht of course (& and they do) own when it comes publicity.)
|
ey if u want me to post stuff in there i can o.Oa

mYm is pretty inactive, which is kinda weird for a big money team, that they can't even bring winning lineups to BWCL Premier League ....
but Alpine is a good guy, and writes some nice articles.

Since Starcraft wise I don't take much interest in anything besides progaming and the discussions in our forum make tl.net vastly superior to anything else in this particular department I never really got into MYM.

Thats pretty strange considering you've done an interview for them,

I think they should use their Players more to draw attention to their site. The community is always craving for ways to get in touch with good players. MyM should convince their players to do some show matches with fans or maybe give out some training lessons or replay analysis. That would always get them lots of attention and there is no competition at all. The Starcraft community seemed to be very indifferent towards most special features that sites have brought up in the past. But the drive to get better is exceptionally strong among us.
