According to OnGamers the organizers of World Cyber Games decided not to run any tournaments in 2014, including the world finals, while the brand is up for use by its international partners.

Brad Lee's (WCG CEO) e-mail to partners:
This year, World Cyber Games Inc. will not organize tournaments and events, including the World Cyber Games finals world.
Accordingly, each partner can use brand WCG in your country from this point. This decision was made by the WCG committee after considering the current global trend as well as the business environment.
This is a shocking news to you, we know, the entire staff of the WCG was surprised.
In 14 years, all you have to do what makes the best WCG become the greatest events in the world.
There are many great moments based on your dedication. Although the brand has disappeared but WCG spirit will remain forever in the hearts of each player and fans.
This moment is very difficult and painful for me. However, I must say goodbye to the WCG.
I appreciate the passion and enthusiasm of you in 14 years.
I hope your company will grow, prosper, and we will soon meet again.
Brad Lee
World Cyber Games Inc. CEO.
While I never watched too much of WCG, it truly is a symbolic tournament in history of many games, not only StarCraft, and it's very sad that after being in service so long it has to go Will be missed.

The fuck?
WCG has been a joke for numerous years now...
It used to be so good way back when, but lately... ugh... Good decision not to piss on its legacy anymore.

I think the title is pretty accurate but of course I'm in your hands mods Also I do not know how, or if I can post in multiple game sections at once, so if you could do it would be awsome, thank you.

I would never cheer for a tournament not happening, but WCG just hasn't had the impact that it used to in the last few years, regardless of game. Pretty much all of the popular titles it covered had their own versions of it that were handled better with larger prize pools.
I think that ending here with WCG is a good decision on their part.

WCG who? [/joke]
On a serious note, I was never interested in that tournament for any game. There were always better alternatives.

WCG? Oh, you mean that tournament where CombatEx took a game off Parting?

WCG helped eSports to grow a lot, and now it is crumbling like this.

Goodbye WCG, I wanted to see you overhaul everything and become a world class event once again, but alas, it is time we part ways.

RIP. Now maybe some other organisation can take that epic name, and actually make a tournament that's relevant to the name

As bad as WCG has been in recent years, it's still a little disgusting to see people who have no idea what they're talking about distil it to just that.

As a very passionate fan of both Unreal Tournament and Brood War, WCG used to be the shit yo.
I don't take kindly to people who just discovered competitive gaming in the last year or so taking shots at something they were never around to experience and can't even begin to understand.

I can play that game too.
On topic, I stopped caring about WCG pretty much once SC2 came out since there was an abundance of foreign tournaments. Back in the days of BW WCG was really the only thing foreigners had a hope for, so it was interesting.

enjoyed every year of WCG especially WarCraft III, the production and atmosphere of WCG is very unique and amazing I did not miss any WVG finals from 2009 so sad to see such news

And yet I've been following Brood War (and competitive FPS) for much longer. Which was the point actually.

Kinda sucks for those more niche competitive games, especially those not as popular as the esport ones. Games like Age of Empires and Command and Conquer long ago once had time to shine on the same stage as Brood War and Warcraft 3 at WCG, but times have changed.

They lost a lot of relevancy somehow, so I guess they're like the Yahoo of esports now?
(except they're not that big and do not have Marissa Mayer?)
