Clarity was lucky enough to have the opportunity to sit down with Mouz.VortiX ahead of all the action this weekend at ASUS ROG NorthCon. We talked about his year in StarCraft, his chances at ASUS ROG and his goals for 2014. We had a great time interviewing him and we hope you enjoy the interview as well!

Below are some excerpts from the interview which you can read in its entirety right Here!

Q. Hello VortiX, thank you very much for taking the time to speak to us today! Could you introduce yourselves to those readers who may not be too familiar with you?

My name is Juan Moreno Durán, I've been playing RTS games since 2006 when I started with warcraft 3. I'm from Barcelona, Spain, I'm 20 years old and I combine studying computer science with playing SC2 professionally for team mousesports with the race Zerg.

Q. As one of the famous Durán brothers, yourself and LucifroN have proven your ability to compete at the highest level of professional Starcraft 2. Do your parents support your individual pursuit of eSports? Who do you feel is the strongest Durán going into NorthCon?

They have always been very supportive, my father liked video games when he was young, and he still does, he enjoys both warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2 so they always looked at it with good eyes, as long as it didn't interfere with our academic results, and after all right now it's a job for us too and given the situation in Spain right now, it's much better than most jobs.

That's a hard question, right now I think I might be in better shape, but when he is at his best he can definitely be better than me.

Q. Throughout 2012 and into the beginning of 2013 you pulled off an incredible run through Starcraft 2’s Premier tournaments, having finished in the top five of four major events. What do you feel has been your crowning achievement as a progamer thus far?

I think my biggest achievement, or the one that I am more proud of is IEM cologne season VII, everyone considered Supernova and ForGG contenders for winning the tournament and they were in very good shape, it was my first premier international event in SC2 and I managed to win them 3-2 and 3-0 respectively. I feel the series vs Supernova is probably the best series I've ever played. However, the only major tournament I've won was Thor Open, so it is a pretty important performance too.

Good luck.

Boy, I would never have that kind of optimism... I'd at least be pleased with a top 4 finish at ASUS ROG. The Korean lineup is pretty damn strong despite there only being 7. And I don't see Vortix beating San, unless he has special tactics to counter San's 4 gate pressure (that San did literally every game at IEM). MMA is quite a tough opponent, too, having some pretty good TvZ (Ragnarok vs MMA anyone?)

Since the only group without a Korean in it happens to be Scarlett's, I imagine she'll be the foreigner this tournament. It'd have been nice to have Naniwa in it, cause it'd have guaranteed 2 foreigners in ro8, though.
