ROOT SEED Arium - The Young Blood

Youth is a beautiful thing. When you're young, the world is your playground and the future is filled with endless possibilities. Everything seems conquerable. Nothing can stop your nearly unlimited potential. This mindset is going to both the greatest weakness, and strength of the 14 year old Grandmaster from the ROOT SEED Academy.

Samson "Arium" Nazaryan is not a shy kid. With a talent for Starcraft that many of us in our 20's can only dream of having, Arium has found a minor degree of fame in Starcraft 2. He's made it into the academy of an very prestigious team, ROOT SEED, and is doing so while maintaining great grades at his high school in the United States. Arium is an achiever. He's smart, he's social, he's organized and he's great at Starcraft. That kind of success is bound to give someone as young as him a huge confidence boost. One might even say he a little bit of an ego.

But do not let that confuse you. When you're competing at high levels of anything, you want a little bit of an ego. That ego is the same thing that drives players like Huk, Naniwa or Stephano to success beyond all others. They know that they're capable of being the best, and so they just decide they will become the best. Some may call this optimism. Some may call it naivity. I call it the attitude of someone born to succeed. Arium has set himself up for a fantastic run in not just this tournament, but in life; even beyond Starcraft. I'm interested to see where he will go in life because I know wherever he ends up he will find great success.

Something to consider though, is that a lot of this talk has been about future potential. Arium embodies the essense of future potential in many ways, but this tournament is in 5 days. The question may very well be, can he match the vision he has for himself right now. Overconfidence in your abilities can lead to devestating defeats, and it's very possible that for someone who has had so much success in life so far, they could surcumb to tragic mistakes. It's a fine line to walk, but Arium is going to need to walk it to beat his opponents who will be giving it everything they got for that $2000 and rising prize pool.

When Arium sits down in his chair and readies himself for Starcraft 2, his style is fitting to his personality. He's good at everything, from macro to micro. In the generic fighting game, he is the main character that is inevidibly the "all-around" avatar. The jack of all trades, but master of none. On one hand, he is going to be a very difficult opponent to prepare for because there isn't some critical part of his style that you can pick apart or find counters to. On the other hand, Arium may find he has trouble against the extreme specialist that can find a way to force Arium to play their game. It will be on his shoulders to not let that happen.

His Group

Along with SaroVati, Arium is one of the two unfortunate souls who going to need to prepare for all 3 matchups in his group. He will first face off against CORE Gaming's Sonic, an aggressive Terran player who will force Arium to try and play his game. If he can find a way to overcome Sonic with his macro while holding off medivac drops and early game pushes, he may be able to push through and take the win. Sonic is a hard opponent because of the lack of great Terran players in North America, but if anyone has a fighting chance, it may be Arium. The young protoss has said that though he is on the Academy team, the main ROOT members have been supportive of helping him practice. With advice from players like State, Minigun, Illusion, Masa and Drewbie, Arium may find the key ingredients he needs to beating Sonic. If he can do that, either NuBrGNi or SaroVati will await him with their fairly unique playstyles. It's going to be a rough group for Arium, but winners don't give up. Arium is here to prove he is relavent now, and not just a side-note we should come back to in a few years.

The world is my plaything and I shall make you my toy.
