For my freshman year. i'll be attending Ithaca College in NY.

i've been waiting to find out my room/roommate information all summer, only to find out that my letter got lost in the mail.
i call up the school yesterday, and find out the information. i facebook the kid,
and the kid im going to spend the rest of the year with,

gay.

this is DEFINITELY going to be the most memorable year of my life.

That seems like a pretty good room mate to have, honestly. Gay guys always know lots of girls and they can give you style tips (if they're not a painfully flamboyant kind). It's not like he's going to try to rape you.

having a gay roommate, is not even near the worst thing that could happen. Chances are he's a nice kid and you'll get along just fine.

Some worse possibilities:
1) crackhead
2) emo (cuts himself)
3) bipolar
4) gets piss drunk every night and pisses on the door, closet, and YOUR BED WITH YOU IN IT, often
5) will watch pr0n at high volume all day no matter what you are doing.
6) you get sexiled nightly b/c your roommate has orgies with grossly overweight women.

seriously, you'll be just fine. Acknowledge the fact that he's gay, sure, but just treat him normally.

He's going to be just as nervous as you coming in, worrying about whether or not everyone will accept him, especially you. Be accepting about the whole thing, make it kind of a joke, and you guys will probably get along great as long as he isn't a weirdo in other unforseen ways (or you are a weirdo...). The most important thing if not to act any differently to him or around him just because he is gay (for example don't make it super awkward to change in front of him or something).

Whether or not he is gay doesn't say very much at all....most people assume that means he's flaming which isn't necessarily true.

Don't take this the wrong way but it reminds me of a story.....a friend of a friend had a gay roomate years ago in college...one day the guy is having unexplained problems with anal bleeding. Eventually he sets up a camera in his dorm secretly and discovers his roomate was drugging and raping him.

Probably won't happen to you though.

don't get all hung up trying to be politically correct and stuff talking to him. people easily sense these things and it can ruin a good friendship, which is a very nice thing ot have in a roommate.

I roomed with a starcraft clan mate! lol Steve[cF] (dragoonat711) and I roomed together our freshman year at UCSB.. The April before my freshman year i was talkin the clan channel and I said id probably be going to UCSB he spoke up and said he was 2.. then we applied to room together when filling out housing information :D

-and for you.. on a positive note.. college is a time to experiment
