update: made the map reset your tech and overlords, you no longer start with 200 supply cap.
Hi Zergies,
I'm putting this here cause not because it relates to strategy(hotkey layouts and mechanics discussions aren't strategy either ), but because it relates to improvement.
I made a poorly-named map called Zerg Inject and Creep that helps you to practise your macro. It's on ALL servers. To find it, just search for "inject" and it should pop up.
You have 3 bases with 3 macro queens, 2 creep queens, 66 drones, only spawning pool for tech and enough overlords for ~80 supply.
Your objective is to: (1) keep total resources below 800(this is very strict) (2) creep spread as far down the map as you can in 10 minutes(there are 6 lanes/paths for you to creep) (3) keep up injects
The map will: (0) kill all units you send to the grass patch in the north-east(so you won't max out) (1) kill all creep tumors and reset your creep every 10 minutes (2) "stop" all your workers every 10 minutes, so you have to issue the mining orders again (3) alert you to MACRO when your total resources exceeds 800 (4) never run out of minerals/gas to mine (5) destroy all your tech buildings and reset all your tech (except lair/hive) [newest version] (6) kill overlords until you have ~80 max supply [newest version]
The rest is up to you.
At first I made it for my own practice, but I figured why not share it.
If you like, you can post replays of your macro and compare with the other players!

This should go under the Maps and Custom Games forum.
This sounds like a really good way to practice your mid game macro, well done! ^^

thought about putting it there, but it seems like people there are looking to get away from melee games.
people here are looking for improvement, so I thought here might be a more appropriate place to get this to the right audience.

Why? Probably an attempt to simulate pulling drones due to harass.

I'd rather it do meaningful things, like actually drop marines from medivacs that you have to spot on the minimap, or bases mine out and you have to build a new one (without building new drones).

That's what I thought.

Sounds very cool, i'd love to see it on European server soon enough !

Why? I think it is a full reset so that you dont have to restart the map to begin again. You have 10 minutes to do as well as you can, then you try to beat it.
Interesting map. Never knew it took more than 140apm to keep up on creep spread + injects + macro alone
|
(2) was included for me to practise sending workers to mine. I notice that pros do it significantly faster than me, so I wanted to practise it.
Alright I'll upload it to Europe within a day

Uploaded to europe. Zerg Inject and Creep.
Just woke up and practised on the map for a while. Uploaded the replay to the original post.

It's kind of a full reset except it doesn't reset your tech. I'm thinking of starting with fewer overlords and resetting overlords and tech as well.
And if you're trying to creep 6 lanes and keep up injects and macro near perfect, I think it takes at least 160 apm, without doing anything else

just sent out a new version to all servers. the map now also resets your overlords to 10 and resets all of your tech (except lair and hive upgrade).

It's an interesting maps, but i think there are a few adjustements to make, like prevent people from making too much macro hatches, or spines or something, because it makes the macro too easy, like you just mine minerals, make 10 macro hatches and then flood zerglings is quite easy and then you only have to concentrate on creep spreading.

Except the fact that you do it to practice. This way you would cheat on yourself, which would be kinda ridiculous.

Thried the map, it was a good idea but a little poorly executed. The map layout itself was alright, but with no introduction and no instructions anywhere, you were just thrown into a map with tons of workers standing idly and no idea what you were supposed to do with the map. Also, a short pause at the beginning to set up building/queens hotkeys would probably be preferable.
If I had not read this thread I would have no idea what was going on, and no way to figure out that the grass patch at the top of the map was going to kill off my units.
|
You should also reset the queen count every ten minutes, at the moment every extra queen you made always stay on the field.
