Currently, when a post with embedded content is quoted, that content is basically re-embedded into the new post. That doesn't sound problematic, but I think it would be better if embedded content was un-embedded inside a quote - i.e. if the embedded content reverted to a simple URL.
Why is the current behavior undesirable?
Many posters want to respond to posts with embedded content because it's often a critical point or turning point in the discussion. What happens then is that multiple posters will quote the embedded content and repeat it across the page or even multiple pages. This is undesirable for three main reasons.
1) Embedded content (generally youtube videos and images, in case the term is too ambiguous) takes up a lot of vertical space when repeated. This is (I assume) at least partly the reasoning behind spoilering nested quotes.
2) Spammed embedded videos can cause noticeable slowdown depending on Flash version, browser version, and hardware.
3) It looks quite out of place. Imagine someone going into a non-youtube-spamming thread and making several posts back to back with embedded videos. The only difference between this and multiple quoters is that blame can be more easily assigned to the individual - the fact that the embedded content is spammed is presumably the 'fault' of the website rather than the quoters.
I'll try to demonstrate with an example.

Notice that I couldn't figure out how to force URL rather than embed.
I'm not an expert when it comes to websites, but it occurs to me that this change could be made by simply modifying the output of the form generated when clicking the quote button to force URLs for what would otherwise be embedded content. Basically if it's a URL in the message field when the user is writing the post, it becomes a URL in the quoteblock in the finished product.
If a user wanted (for whatever reason) to explicitly re-embed the embedded content into the quote in his new post, he could simply remove the forced-URL tags around the content within the quoteblock, and it would display as it currently does.
/edit - If anyone is confused, the examples got changed because the parsing was modified. The first example (Current) had an embedded youtube video in each iteration of the URL. The second example (proposed) had the embedded youtube video only in the non-quoted post and URLs in the quoteblocks.
