Background:
Since the release of WarCraft III, ESPORTS has grown massively, and recruited legions of new fans. Unfortunately, the game itself has some serious problems, i.e. the entire Orc race, our version of BW Protoss. Despite the requests of high level ex-BW players like Naniwa, DemusliM, and reps)Defi to make WC3 more like Brood War, Blizzard seems to want to forget its old masterpiece. The famous petition to give Undead Siege Tanks in The Frozen Throne in order to solve the Orc vs Undead imbalance comes to mind.

Well think again and stop being so ELITIST! That mod already exists + Show Spoiler +

Speaking of elitism, now that Flash and Jaedong have switched to SC2, why are you still not watching and enjoying it? Your players are there! What more do you want?
Look at this cool and awesome trailer showing how good this game looks compared to the old shitty graphics from 98. These graphics were made even more than 3 years later and make the experience better.
Why WC3:BW?
Some of you may be wondering why we’re not just funding StarCraft: Brood War weekly tournaments, choosing instead to go with a different engine. You may think this will cause balance problems (like unlimited mutalisk stacking... or the inability to properly stack mutalisks at all), or that it will change the movement and traits of certain units, like SCV’s. Perhaps you are worried that lowering the mechanical requirements will remove the need to treat your apm as a resource, and to spend it wisely while harassing the enemy’s supply. Do not worry, all of these concerns will be addressed, and when you’re done reading all of this, you will be convinced that moving Brood War competition to WC3:BW is the best choice for ESPORTS.
Since we have noted nowadays that it is completely fine to encroach upon the entirety of the BW community, we, the WC3 community, would like to participate in this festive event. We are of course referring to another series of tournaments bringing us world class SC2 modding disguised as BW competition, which has met nothing but positive feedback. The team behind WC3:BW is proud to present this alternate, better version of the original, rather outdated game. We have tried to replicate BW in its entirety, just using another game engine; in fact not changing anything from the original experience apart from making you have to buy another game. Also, we have included features to make the game easy (it is soo hard, we can’t even beat one Zerg on ICCUP: Check out the thread). Since BW is stone dead nowadays as you all know, and no big tournaments bringing thousands of viewers exist in neither the foreign nor korean scene anymore it leaves but one conclusion: Warcraft III is now the premier ESPORT, beating both Tiberian Sun and Age of Empires with ease. Since some of us who are a part of this nowadays #1 ESPORT called WC3 still like some features from BW, and more than anything want to make people quit playing BW, we now bring you another reason to get with the times.
Surely we can trust you guys to teach these WC3 new schoolers a lesson or two about real games?
The first tournament will feature a $000 prize, and will be played on the European server (Northrend) server this Saturday, Feb 16 10:00pm CET (GMT+01:00). We will update this thread every week with new sign up links.

How was the money raised?
Eywa found a very rare hockey card in a shoe he hadn’t used since he was 9 (he is 13 now) and sold it to Blizzard for the very respectable sum of $3000. It was a limited edition card of LRM)Game from when he was a goalkeeper in the Detroi-T1 Red Wings ( which later formed SKT T1 when hockey died outside of Korea as a result of the player strike in NHL).
![[image loading]](http://imageshack.us/a/img17/8259/gamelm.png)
Since LRM)Game forgot to contact his lawyers and make up a laughable license policy for owning his hockey card (like what Blizzard did to Sonic before the SSL7), Blizzard used the picture as a basis for their new HotS unit, called the Hydraroach.
![[image loading]](http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7807/hydraroach.jpg)
LRM)Game was enraged that Blizzard modelled a unit after him with such striking similarity without his permission.
Ninazerg then showed up to save the day with his lucrative lemonade enterprise.
A recording of NinaZerg making some lemonade:
He started selling lemonade in a suburban district in southwesteast Siberia, which resulted in a lawsuit from the Russian maffia, (In Russia, lawsuits are also known known as threats), that eventually forced Ninazerg to undergo extensive surgery to change his appearance and thereby escape their wrath. After the $3000 were spent on a sex change and hormone treatments, Ninazerg could, with a little help from Eywa finally announce the total prize pool of $000!!!. A prizepool sufficient to sponsor weekly WC3:BW tournaments for at least 35 years.
Despite (now(arguments about whether or not ninazerg was a transsexual before or after the sex change are still being held to this day. In other words, whether nina's true gender is male or female))her efforts to evade the Russian mafia, they however discovered her true identity, and Osama Jung Laden released a statement threatening to kill Ninazerg unless one demand was met. We had to make some change to vultures because of this, but more on that later.
WC3BW Weekly Tournament Rules:
Dumb-casting:
For the issue of smart-casting, we decided to go with a compromise. Smart casting will only work with half of the selected units, bringing StarCraft up to modern RTS standards. This lets you play vs your opponent rather than vs the interface, while still satisfying old BW veterans.
Automine:
This is a controversial subject. After careful consideration, we have decided to include it - but don’t worry, it’s not in the way you would expect. Vultures now automatically lay mines in strategic spots. After laying all their mines, they seek out enemy workers and harass with excellent micro, travelling through anything in their paths like workers on their way to a mineral field. Vultures are now theoretically units that you never have to click on, proving that this mod is actually better than SC2. We don’t want to babysit our units, we want to focus on strategy.
Note that because this mod is incomplete, vultures sometimes have problems distinguishing your workers from the enemy’s workers, and if there is an observer in the game, they will treat him as an enemy worker. No worries though, so far no casters have come to harm (Sayle has stated his eye surgery was not related to the vulture harassment he suffered).
Unit selection:
When we originally implemented unlimited unit selection to bring Brood War up to modern standards, there was a cry of outrage from the hardcore BW community. We have heard your concerns, and have come up with a solution that should please both sides. Unit selection is no longer unlimited, but the limit is set to no less than 50 units.
MBS:
Multi building selection is enabled, but after careful testing, we have decided to limit players to selecting 89 at a time.
Balance Improvements:
This mod has some balance improvements inspired by C&C: Tiberian Sun. For example, we have given lurkers the ability to move while burrowed.
Through undeniable logical arguments, Julia and iFU.Pauline convinced us that Zerg is “the only balanced race”. We therefore decided to make stop lurkers more deadly, as well as increase the general efficiency of lurkers. Marines & Medics will no longer be able to abuse the set up time that lurkers require. Brood War might be the most balanced RTS game, but that doesn’t mean we can’t improve upon its balance even further.
+ Show Spoiler +
We tried to contact IdrA for his input on what changes should be done to Brood War, but he was unavailable. He’d probably be fine with a lurker buff, though. He did admit that his strongest match up was by far TvZ.
+ Show Spoiler +
A recording of Julia reacting to losing a non ZvZ:
Also, fungal growth has been given to the queen as a replacement for ensnare since we all know ensnare is useless and boring, while fungal growth is a well designed, both highly useful and fun ability, to use and to play against.
