With the dark news of the recent threats from North Korea to South Korea, let's look at some lighter North Korea news: an interview with Kim Han Sol, the grandson of Kim Jong Il.
http://blogs.wsj.com/korearealtime/2012/10/18/kim-jong-ils-grandson-gives-tv-interview/
So he's a 17 year old teenager schooling in a boarding school in Bosnia, speaks fluent English, and looks like any other South Korean friend I have. He previously had a Facebook and Twitter, but deleted it due to his sudden media publicity when he was accepted to the school. It's fascinating learning how his background and circumstances allowed him to become an articulate, "normal" young man.
I really hope that he will be a key person in uniting the Koreas; hopefully his link to the North Korean dynasty and his interest in humanitarian efforts could help the Koreas out in the future.
Kim Han Sol fighting!~

A year ago there was a media craze when they found he would be moving away from Macau.

I came here expecting something completely different. This young man seems well spoken and well informed. Seems like a nice guy, cant believe Kim Jong Il is his grand father.

His English-speaking ability is pretty incredible too

Hmm reunification of the two Koreas incoming in 20 years?
|
It's really unnerving that his English is so... Standard Korean-American Punk, I could've sworn he was from anywhere in the states and immigrated after he was 14. He even has the girly-boy earring...
I hope he doesn't get detained or executed for showing so much disdain for his home Nation's government... Maybe it was even a ploy to get the North Korean government to disavow him and leave him to his own devices.
|
The guy seems cool and down to earth. I can see peace in the future between the North and the South through this guys future actions. We can only hope for it.

The thing is. Will there still be two different Korea in next 20 years? I honestly don't know :/ But I hope he keep his cool personality IF he becomes the next leader

Uniting North and South Korea isn't important. Stopping all the attacks against South Korea, for no reason, is important. Hell, everyone just generally getting along, instead of this giant fucking world war that everyone is fighting with everyone, and all over dumb shit too, like, religion, location, culture, race, money. Won't ever happen, but I hope this guy can stop at least one fight.

Wow that was a really great interview. He seems like a really stand up guy, and hopefully one day he can help with the reunification of the Koreas. It should be interesting for him when he grows up and to see how often him and Jong Un talk/if at all, I wonder if the brothers are close at all O.o.
That was a really great interview, nice to see a unique perspective on things.

I wonder what it must feel like having an uncle who is the leader of one of the worst regimes in human history. It must gnaw at his morals even though none of it is his fault. At least hes mature enough to know whats right and wrong.

I thought it was clever too but hes making fun of the l/r pronunciation joke on asians, which can be taken as racist.

User was warned for this post Why does that Star Wars joke get warned? Han Solo, hilarious! I don't see anything wrong here. The 'r's That's ridiculous. I've seen pictures by Manit0u in the funny pictures thread making jokes about black people not being able to read and he goes unscathed. I see a thread devoted bashing religion simply because they protest on their own private property about abortion, the creator went unwarned.
I PMd the guy who warned me because I honestly don't know why I was warned, all he said was "dont do this". If it really is the whole switching of Rs and Ls, then im disappointed. I've stood up against racism against Asians (my own race) enough in my own life to be able to recognize real racism from harmless fun.
Edit: I take more offense to people in this entire site claiming to know about Asian culture purely on Koreans' SC2 work ethic than an obviously stupid joke about the pronunciation of Rs or Ls.
