This is a universal rule on tl but apparently it needs repeating. Website feedback or PMs to the mod involved for questions about moderation. - KwarK |

User was warned for this post Why does that Star Wars joke get warned? Han Solo, hilarious! I don't see anything wrong here. The 'r's That's ridiculous. I've seen pictures by Manit0u in the funny pictures thread making jokes about black people not being able to read and he goes unscathed. I see a thread devoted bashing religion simply because they protest on their own private property about abortion, the creator went unwarned. I PMd the guy who warned me because I honestly don't know why I was warned, all he said was "dont do this". If it really is the whole switching of Rs and Ls, then im disappointed. I've stood up against racism against Asians (my own race) enough in my own life to be able to recognize real racism from harmless fun. Edit: I take more offense to people in this entire site claiming to know about Asian culture purely on Koreans' SC2 work ethic than an obviously stupid joke about the pronunciation of Rs or Ls.
It's TL man, there's is no 'standard' on moderating, it's all a case of whatever each mod feels like doing at any given point in time, be it logical or not. I wouldn't even waste time arguing, you'll just get banned again. Your joke was good btw, and no it wasn't racist in any way.

I have to say, I did enjoy that joke quite a bit. Also, im surprised that he could get schooling outside of North Korea o.o

Pretty awesome interview. Seems like a pretty solid guy.

Great interview. He's incredibly well-spoken.
I wonder how his uncle would react upon seeing how westernized his nephew is.
|
definitely 100x better than Mao's grandsong LOL
|
This video really showed me that there may be hope for North Korea in the future.
|
Surprise surprise, kid's aren't born rotten. Yes he seems to be a good guy but that doesn't mean that he'll bring about any change. Best thing we can hope for is that he gets left alone and can have a normal live.
|
I found it ironic when he had a Libyan roommate, destiny? But being on the unfavored side of the family I don't see any direct influence he will assert in the future.

All I've seen from him is that he thinks the U.S/U.K are awful, everyone in the west is incredibly biased, that Communism is awesome, that he is for equal rights for all, but life in NK isn't bad (implied via comment that everyone in NK has a cell phone now that only makes calls locally).

How is changing a letter for another to make a joke completely unrelated to his race itself "racism"?
Racism is the hatred for another race or feeling of superiority of a race over another. Referencing a manner of speaking (which stems from differences in languages and not physical differences between races) that is well-known is so far from racism I'm be pressed to find a single person who'd be offended.
Team Liquid thought-police at work. What a case of super hyper sensitivity. Par for the course, I guess. The TL user base is definitely not known for their intelligence.

Your point is incorrect. It's like seeing a black person and slurring all your words in a "ghetto" way, as if all black people speak like that. It's inherently attributing a way of speaking to skin color, which is racism. Racism doesn't have to be negative. Calling Asians smart is racism. In this case, pointing out what some english speakers find funny in the phonography of asian languages, is more of a teasing neutral racism, but racism none the less.
It's less a matter of spite and more a matter of ignorance.

Well, there seems to be a bit of inconsistency here, considering how his name is "Supamang".

The real question is what is his main race and what league is he in?

For most Koreans that is the case. I have a Korean professor who has lived in America for fourteen years and teaches Greek to American students. His grasp of English mechanics is better than most of the students he teaches, and yet his l's sound like r's all the time. His intonation is often off as well, and is has nothing to do with being racist. The way Korean phonetics and language works is fundamentally different from western linguistics. It is how it is and trying to coddle everyone so no one gets offended doesn't really help anything.

Lols he's pretty handsome :o Is he next in line?

Now that they know where he is, do you think maybe the cia will kidnap him and use him as hostage to better negotiate with north korea? I mean, the fact that he is in a random place like bosnia seems fishy, almost like they wanted him to be out of the public eye.

Kim Han-sol (Korean: 김한솔, born 16 June 1995) is the eldest son of Kim Jong-nam and the grandson of the former North Korean ruler, Kim Jong-Il. His father was the heir-apparent until 2001, when he fell out of favor with the regime following a failed attempt to secretly visit Japan’s Disneyland in May 2001. His uncle, Kim Jong-un, was named the heir apparent in September 2010, and succeeded Kim Jong-il upon the latter's death in December 2011. [...] In October 2012, Kim made his first ever televised interview with Finnish TV network YLE, making several comments about his desire for Korean reunification, while also criticizing his grandfather's and uncle's rule over North Korea.
Considering this, and since he's lived in Western-oriented Hongkong (former British colony) and Macau (former Portugese colony) for most of his life and is now studying as part of the United World Colleges (UWC) program in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina (interesting choice), it's fair to assume that he and his family look at things differently.
Anyways, interesting interview. Cute guy. All the best to him.
