NSH_Sculp(Left) and NSH_Sage(Right) representing Team NSH

Q: You succeeded in making it to the secound round.
Sculp: After losing to team StarTale, the atmosphere within the team was not very good. Very happy to win today. We also managed to clinch the chance to continue playing in future GSTLs.

Sage: I am neither a Code S player, nor am I a Code A player. As a result, I don't get to appear in the GSL. I am very thankful to Sculp for giving me the chance today to play in the GSTL.

Q: How does it feel getting the first four-kill in GSTL?
Sculp: I managed to get a double-kill when we played against StarTale last season, and it feels pretty good to get a four-kill today. If this had occurred last season, it would have been an all-kill. It's too bad that I wasn't able to get the all-kill today.

Q: Which was the most difficult game out of the five games?
Sculp: The first game against Polt was the most difficult. Because it's been such a long time since I played a broadcasted match, I was really nervous. Even when the game was already won for me, I was still not able to control properly because of my nervousness. The first game was the hardest today.

Q: You lost just before you could get the all-kill.
Sculp: In the last game, I made too many wrong judgements. It even became apparent to myself during the game that my mistakes were really bad. For example, in the early game, I should have played more defensively with my hellions, but I chose to be offensive instead, and I ended up losing my whole army. I also did not remove the creep. In the end, the accumulation of all the minor mistakes led to the loss in the game.

Q: You were played when your team was 4-0 up. Was there less burden on you because of that?
Sage: No. Ever since the up and down matches, I have never won any competitions, and so I really wanted to win. The plan was that I would be the second player to play, and I was really well prepared to play. There are many Zergs in the opponent team, and I was thinking of being the MVP for today. However, Sculp played really well, and I was only able to get a single kill. In the scenario that I had drawn up, Sculp was supposed to win one game, and then I would win the other four.

Q: You finally managed to get a win in a broadcasted match after a long time. Why do you think your results up to now haven't been good?
Sage: Physically speaking, there are some problems and pain in my arm. Within the games themselves, I would make mistakes. In the last game against StarTale, I made the mistake of setting my hotkeys wrongly.

Q: Both of you are players playing in the qualifiers of the GSL. Are you confident of qualifying for the actual tournament?
Sculp: In the last season, I had the experience of qualifying for the actual tournament, so I am not too worried about qualifying. I will use today's victories as a stepping stone to gain some momentum and do well in the qualifiers.

Sage: After the game against ForGG that time, I thought I would make it back to Code A really soon. but I haven't been able to qualify. Recently though, I feel like the qualifiers don't feel like qualifiers. There are too many amateurs, and other than the finals, the games are not too difficult. Even though I was also eliminated in the qualifiers before, I still hope that the standard for being in the qualifiers can be set slightly higher.

Q: Your first opponent in round 2 is Prime. How do you think you will do?
Sculp: Against Prime, if we can control BbongBbong, MarineKing, and Creator, it should be an easy match.

Sage: Our score against each other in an online tournament is 1:1. Hopefully, we can do our best and be in the lead against them in terms of our head to head score.

Q: You fell in the semi-finals last season. Are you confident of winning this season?
Sculp: If Jjakji plays properly, I think we can win (laughs). He seems to have lost some confidence in himself recently, having lost against Protoss, and also being eliminated from GSL Code S. Hope he'll continue doing his best. He actually really wanted to play today, but I already had an agreement with the coach that I would play. I think that as compared to boosting his confidence, what was more urgent was to get myself out of the coffin and resurrect myself (laughs).

Sage: As long as we have the confidence like last season, we feel that advancing to the finals is not really a problem.

Q: Any last things you want to say?
Sculp: I've been really down ever since I was eliminated from Code A, but today's four-kill made me feel better. I will work even harder in the future to get better results. I want to thank my family and friends for their support for me behind the scenes.

Sage: There aren't many big competitions for me to join recently, and it's making me really bored. I will work hard in preparing for GSTL and achieve good results in GSTL. The celebration after the first game was thought up by the coach. I am very happy as it's the best celebration in the history of GSTL and will be remembered.
(T/N: Link to Celebration. http://www.gomtv.net/2012gstls1/vod/66891 It is at the end after the game.)

Hahaha nice. It's after the first game, so it's free :D

That said, I think today's celebrations / ceremonies as well as yesterday's multiple manner nexuses were kinda mean though, since they were done to teams that seem to be struggling quite a bit at this present time, like adding salt to a wound.

Well, there might not be big ones, but there are plenty of small ones. Hopefully Sage can use them to overcome his boredom (and entertain us while he's at it). ^^"

I've been thinking this for a while but it's good to have a pro that shares the same views. The once oft-repeated notion that code B is some sort of hellish dogpit full of hidden gosus is simply no longer true. It's been a year since GOM went to the code S/A format and everyone worth their salt should have qualified by now *cough Puma.* Hyun qualfied for code A after playing SC2 for a month and a half for crying out loud.

The good ol' elephanteer adage of an ex-BW pro "playing for just x months". He has likely been playing SC2 for longer than that, albeit not professionally. (Yes, even as an amateur, playing a game for hours daily does count as time invested in the game.)
And while the Gom qualifiers might have many amateurs attempting to qualify, we can certainly list a scary amount of Code B players which are good enough to take games or series off Code A and Code S players without the latter preparing against them. Just look at the KSL/ESV, the amount of potentially good players is high, and it will all be channeled through qualifiers of some sort.
