41) The “Autumn and company” Incident
During the very early stages of progaming, fans would hang around on the “GemQ” forums and on the message boards even progamers would join their fans and post messages.
This was when progaming was yet to be defined clearly. Progamers would even start flaming each other on these message boards; the most famous example was the “Autumn and company” incident. The so called “Autumn and company” included Autumn himself, Garimto and H.O.T.Forever. When Boxer beat Garimto using the two hidden barracks build, Autumn criticized Boxer for using such a cheesy strategy because he lacks in skill. In turn, Boxer’s fans started to flame Autumn. In response to THIS, Garimto and HOT defended Autumn, also flaming Boxer for relying so much on strategy.
Ironically, Garimto would become known as the most strategic Protoss player on the scene. As a result of this, Autumn and Boxer came out as dubious rivals whenever they met.
42) Autumn's retirement incident.
Every Starcraft fan once dreamt of seeing a Boxer-Autumn showdown. This is because there had been many ‘behind the scenes’ clashes between the two players (including incident #41). They had never yet faced each other in the big leagues. Boxer and Autumn had only faced each other several times in the Premierleagues, never in a Starleague. One of the reasons for this was that Autumn never made it through the Challenge and Minor leagues.
However, one year (last year to be exact) Autumn defeated Sir@Soni and was able to advance into the Dual Tournament for the first time in his career, despite being called a boring player for playing in such an uncreative manner. He stated that he would retire if he was to fail to pass this Dual Tournament, which would be his only shot at qualifying for a Starleague. In the Dual Tournament, Autumn showed a perfect game against NaDa on Nostalgia and became one win away from his first ever Starleague in his lengthy career. In the Winner’s bracket match up, Autumn loses a very messy game at Pelennor where the doodads on the map got in the way of his units. After this game, Pelennor became known as a hugely imbalanced Terran map. Then in his one last shot at qualifying in the final game he lost to Nada. Thus, Autumn who shrouded himself with controversy wherever he went was forced to face a tragic retirement and the fans were denied of their final chance of seeing Boxer face Autumn in a Starleague.
43) “Yellow’s GG” incident
During a match Yellow is a minute away from a certain defeat. Then, suddenly his computer starts to falter and the drop screen comes up. Here, Yellow types GG like a true sportsman and leaves the game admitting defeat.
After this he received an ovation from his fans, praising his manner and sportsmanship.
44) Nal_rA’s Hallucination Recall incident
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=27781 (Heres my nice thread on the topic of this game including the translations of the commentary at hotpoints)
One of the most amazing strategies ever pulled off in the history of progaming is Nal_rA’s hallucination recall, fittingly showing himself as a true ‘dreamer’ once more. On an island map, Parallel Lines 3, Nal_rA begins to gather up an army as he begins arbiter production. Seeing this, Goodfriend naturally made a very strong defence with turrets and goliaths. Nal_rA’s strategy looked certain to fail.
However suddenly, Nal_rA’s 2 arbiters become 10 through hallucination. These hallucinated arbiters create a barrier and takes the hits from Goodfriend’s Goliaths and Turrets, enabling his real arbiters to recall in masses of ground units, forcing Goodfriend to type GG in a spectacular fashion.
45) JulyZerg’s Watermelon incident.
Having defeated one of the greatest Terran players, iloveoov, July faces his first Ongamenet Starleague final with the chance for a first ever Zerg win.
During the final, July turns up with crazy hair dyed red with a green shirt and a red cloak, which made him resemble a watermelon.
46) Midas' “Nope” incident.
Midas qualifies for the OSL and during the group drawings, he is interviewed by the commentators.
Jun Yong Joon, Um Jae Jyung and Kim Do Hyung were very nervous during this interview because of Midas’ unique state of mind. During the interviews, Midas is famous for his ultra-short answers. When he was asked “Did your experiences in the Kingdom Under Fire (Another RTS) leagues help you in any way?” he replied “Helped lots.” And when he was asked “Did you have anyone you wanted to play in mind?” he replied “Nope.”'
He was also asked “Do you have confidence in yourself to win?” to which he replied “Yes when I do, no when I don’t.” As a result, he became famous for such traits among progaming fans.
47) The “Go! Dream Team!” Incident. (“Go! Dream Team!” was a popular television show where a group of celebrities, dubbed “the Dream Team” would compete with professionals in a sport.)
During an episode of KBS’ “Go! Dream Team!” a group of celebrities were to face a line up of progamers that included Boxer, HOT, TheMarine, Jinnam and IntoTheRain.
At this time, progaming was not as established as it was now and the team of celebrities jeered and made fun of the progaming team.
Obviously, the progaming team won effortlessly. As a result the producers of the show planned re-matches, giving the progaming team handicaps. After the broadcasting of the show, the furious Starcraft fans once again swept through the KBS forums.
48) Peter’s Sexy Wink incident ^_~
Peter, a foreign member of Hexatron is a player that unusually loves the camera. When the camera came for a close up during a broadcast game, Peter gave the audience one sexy wink, which won the fan’s hearts. After that, he became known to fans as the Sexy Toss (or Kanji Toss.)
49) JulyZerg’s Fireworks Marine Medic incident (Fireworks Terran is the name given to Sync's trademark marine medic style of destroying sunken lines)
During Proleague, July faced Chojja as a random Terran on Guillotine. Chojja had made around 8 sunkens at his choke, seeing July’s mm + firebats. All the commentators exclaimed “He will never get through that sunken line!” However July showed godly control and ploughed through Chojja’s sunkens and won the game. Afterwards Garimto said in a frail voice, astonished “He went through THAT?”
50) The Proleague Opening “fishing” Incident (“Fishing” is an internet term used in Korean forums in regards to those annoying threads that trick people to take a look using an eye-catching or controversial title.)
The SKY Proleague has a reputation for its cool opening sequences. Both the first and the second round had successful, exciting opening sequences. The producer of the Proleague himself expressed that the opening for the third round would be the best yet, which aroused high anticipation amongst the fans. Finally it was the day of the revealing of the opening sequence for the Proleague Round 3. The fans roared in anticipation as the Proleague trademark blue background came up on screen.
However the excitement soon turned into astonishment and disgust as the worlds “It’s Fishing” flew up onto the background (wordplay on the SKY tagline- “It’s Different”).
Jun Yong Joon, the commentator announced that the opening will be finished in the following week.
The anger and disappointment of the fans soon evaporated when the opening sequence in the following week proved to be beyond all their expectations.
