Yeah that's right, I just won a PvP without using a single gateway unit, I am currently a diamond level protoss player, so If any of you diamond protoss want a build which can work at a diamond level here it is.
Disclaimer + Show Spoiler +I'm sure this build wont work all the time, or maybe it does, you'll just have to try it out. Plus its a fun way to play PvP.
You really need a map like taldarim altar where you can wall yourself in and where its not so vulnerable to blink-ins
This build can function well under heavy pressure, and once you hit a critical mass of voidrays no stalkers or archons will be able to stop you.
Build + Show Spoiler +
- 9 pylon
- 10 Forge
- gateway as soon as you can
- 2 cannons
- cyber core
- expand
- get 2 gas and a star gate
- get 2 more cannons
- get 5 phoenix to harass and defence.
- continuously get voidrays for the entire game.
- throw down 2 more gas, and 1 more stargate
- also get air upgrades
- when you can expand, don't be afraid to spam cannons because you will have plenty of minerals to waste
- when you have 3 bases get another cyber core and get dual air upgrades
- you can pretty much roll over your opponent when you have around 160 supply and 3/3 upgrades.
Micro Tips + Show Spoiler +- Try to keep your voidrays on top of cliffs so that you can easily retreat - Always target fire archons first - Try not to clump up your voidrays when going into a big battle. - Try to avoid big battles for most of the game until you have a good amount of voids.

Im sorry, but i find cannons not that effective in a pvp. There are so many ways to get around the cannons early on: 3 gate blink, warp prism elevator, you can even get 2 pylons near the edge of your base hallucinate and then warpin so many different things they could do. They could Fe on 15 if they rlly wanted to. You need early units get a couple of cannons to Fe then you can get 3 stargates or 2 robo whatever you want.

Sorry. But diamond SEA is pretty bad and not good enough to try and invent a knew strategy.

It probably works in bronze league. Oh, by the way, everything works in bronze leag! This needs to be tested/refined before posting.

how are they gonna get a warp prism in your base if you have phoenix?
plus you can kill pylons at the edge of your base with voidrays, without being hit.
I guess it all comes down to moving your units around and being aware of the map.
also if they fast expand you can "power" the build a bit more, plus you will have phoenix to harass.

This dies to 4gate 100% of them time and you can't expect your opponent to do anything else if he scouts you. Your only saving grace is he might freak out and delay his WG tech by scouting you forge first. But when he sees that you aren't making a pylon in his base.. and that you are making a nexus after you put 2 cannons on your ramp.. he's just going to 4gate you and kill you.

xD Lol this will come waaaay before you have voids or pheonix or even nearly enough units to kill the pylons. Your expecting to FFE, get voids, build probes, get cannons, and pheonix at 6-8 minutes.. I seriously don't think you have refined this enough.

hmm. about the 4gate issue
I think if you can chronoboost your first phonix to scout his base, and see a 4 gate, throw down like 3 more cannons and defend it

4gate has killed you by the time you get your first phoenix out if you expand after forge/cannon

but you should be able to tell he's 4 gating anyway if hes saving chronoboost.
I guess you could try and squeeze out a stalker to scout for proxy pylons, which could delay the 4gate

I remember Hasuobs doing something similar against Naniwa in the TSL, where he was punished hard by Naniwa's 4gate.

Stalkers can move. cannons cannot. If you forge fe against toss he's going to keep his probe in your base and there's no way you can kill it since you're not getting a stalker. He is free to make a pylon in your base and warp in there, as well as attack your natural since you can't have enough cannons to defend against 6+ stalkers at every conceivable angle in your main as well as your natural. What, are you going to make 20 cannons?

Honestly, this will lose to a 4 gate 100% of the time. You will not have a strong enough economy to have enough cannons to deny the 4 gate, and even if you get the phoenix out in time, it won't make much of a difference.

game play as a toss when i see forge and cannons at his base, i just expand right away and play cautious and it's not difficult to win since a forge + 2 cannons is a little more than the cost of a nexus. and they cant move...ever...
map choice just fyi;; tal'darim is a great map for blink ins. theres a low ground connecting the third and the main. sure it'll take 2blinks in and out, but all you have is cannons at front and a couple nix?
opinion + Show Spoiler + this would work at any level below diamond for sure since crisis management tends to be really low at that level but anything above mid-diamond will punish this for sure.
none the less it's something you might throw in randomly kind of like a PvP cannon rush or something when no one's expecting it.
