4:3 vs 16:9 Does it make a difference?

GhostFall United States830 Posts May 17 2011 04:48 GMT #1 Hi guys. So I got a new monitor. I have a 4:3 CRT monitor and a 16: 9 LCD monitor. Now normally I would play games on the CRT because CRT monitors push frames per second way higher than LCDs. However, while frames per second make a difference in FPS games, it's not as important in Starcraft. Screen resolution might have an effect on Starcraft however. This becomes a pain because I have to switch between my main monitor when switching between starcraft and other games. So. My question is this. Does it make a difference playing between widescreen and standard? Do you see more of the map in widescreen. Furthermore, which is more popular? If I go to LANs and I play on other computers, will I more likely play with the standard ratio or the widescreen ratio?

Zeke50100 United States2220 Posts May 17 2011 04:59 GMT #2 The image above pretty much summarizes how aspect ratio affects SC2. 16 : 9 is most definitely superior (in terms of the amount of space you can view) to both of the other ratios, and LANs will most likely have that as a standard. There may be LANs that allow you to use your own monitors, but that could be a hassle. Just use whatever you feel comfortable with.
