Hey everyone,

Just wondering what keyboard people use for SC

I myself have a Razer Arctosa as I came to SC2 from competitive FPS, however have found it's not really the best for RTS gaming with it's low-profile keys..

Do you feel your keyboard plays a huge role in how well you can play? Have you tried other keyboards and found comparable differences?

This thread is largely for me to gain an idea of whether I should sell on my Arctosa in order to replace it with a different keyboard (e.g. Razer Marauder?) as i'm looking to get quite serious in SC2.

I'm using my g15 v2 right now, I love the keyboard so far, also the ability to control and see what music is on during a game is great . Ive also got one of my macro keys set to say gl hf before games too.

I use a laptop keyboard, and I don't think so. It'd be pretty petty of me to use my keyboard as an excuse for my lack of hotkey and control group use (only memorize the basics, like workers, and never use more than 5 different control groups).

don't buy the razer stuff, it's cheap crap with lights stuck to it.

i've got a G15 (the first version, the blue one, basically G11 with a screen) and it's wonderful, however i've had it since the release (which is what? like 5-6 years back?) and it's kinda starting to give up on me i lose control with the buttons starting to get a bit wobbly and not stay where they should and sometimes locking up, time to buy a new keyboard. as it looks now it'll probably be a G11 since i want those high keys, proper quality and back lighting since i usually play pretty dark.

Microsoft X4. It's personal preference if you ask me. You have to be confortable with it and not always hitting the wrong keys. Not like you need any custom keys as you can set none.

I personally use a Saitek Eclipse keyboard, the keys are pretty solid yet light, and laser etched, with 3 different selectable LEDs.

But as far as usage goes, I've been using it since circuit city went out of business like two years ago or however long ago that was lol(got it on sale there) and it is still as great as ever. It works quite well because the keys are perfectly sized for my hands(not those short little wimpy laptop-type keys) and they are very responsive and durable. It is also quite comfortable to use for extended periods of time, it comes with one of those ergonomic wrist attachment thingies, but it's actually pretty neat.

I don't have any experience with Razer keyboards, but I suggest checking out Saitek keyboards. Even if you don't buy one, they're nice keyboards and worth checking out. Oh, and it also has windows media player and volume buttons tucked in the corner, I don't know if that's important to you or not, but they are perfect, small, and out of the way.

I can't play any games on a low-profile keyboard unless it's something like Stepmania.
I've been using a USB Dell keyboard for almost 6 years and I don't feel the need to try any other keyboard.

Honestly, any keyboard will do wonders for you as long as you're comfortable with it. Getting a brand new "gaming" keyboard isn't going to instantly make you a better gamer.

Yes.. stay away from Razer keyboards they are the absolute worst.

I use a Filco Tactile Touch NKRO

Mechanical keyboards really are the best. They aren't all that much more expensive than the shitty Razer/Steelseries GAMING GEAR membrane ones either.

Cheap Dell keyboard]s work fine

I've tried uber expensive keyboards... but the money difference just isn't really worth it. Find a keyboard that clicks well and has responsive buttons and thats all you need imo

I use the macro-stik 5000. Makes winning games easier than makin some bacon.

And sometimes I use that cheap dell keyboard with the broken backspace button so i can't even erase what I type, it helps keep everything flowing though, its pretty sweet.

logitech g19 I got it as a present.. Originally wanted to return it, but some of the LCD features are kind of cool.

Razer Lycosa, since the Arctosa is a piece of crap imo. The Lycosa has a mechanical feel to it while still having all the sweet features for playing other games such as WoW where I need the capability to put macros on my keyboard or Lost Viking to make my space bar actually spam space to fire faster ^_^

As for feel, yeah I feel that the Lycosa > the cheap stock Dell keyboard I used to use for SC. The lower profile keys are really helpful when doing a bunch of actions in a row like building units.

EDIT: Razer keyboards probably aren't nearly as good as their mice (the Lycosa's driver is nowhere near as user-friendly as the Mamba's) but they're much better than what I've head about their audio products.

Razer Lycosa - After about a year or so of use the keys got really responsive and now the keyboard feels great.

I like wolfking's keyboards, they are pretty cheap but actually have a design that has gaming in mind instead of the typical rectangular keyboards that are only designed for typing.

Looks "fancy" but the only reasons I got it was because it had a close resemblance to my previous keyboard, and I wanted volume up/down + mute keys.

I really don't feel like I need macro keys to "up my play". Just get something you feel comfortable with, the previous keyboard I had before this one was a cheap 9,99$ logitech standard keyboard, and I dare say it was the best damn keyboard i've had. I tried buying the exact same model but couldn't find it anywhere

See I had the Lycosa and had issues with keys not responding in certain combinations. An example would be if I was holding CTRL for crouch, A and W for moving diagonally and then hitting R for reload would cause the keyboard to "lock up" and I would have to let go of all the keys for it to start responding again. This is not the exact combination because it was a fair while ago but it pissed me off to no end when I tried to play any FPS. Inexcusable for something being marketed as a "gaming" keyboard.

That keyboard only lasted about 3 months until the backlight died so I threw it out. I was pissed off at wasting so much money on it but I was glad at the same time because it was a piece of shit that gave me nothing but grief.
