Hey guys,

I'm just wondering if there is much of a competitive Starcraft scene in any form what so ever. I know there's scenes for CS, COD, etc. And I know that, because we're delegated to the SEA server, there's a major scene there, but I haven't heard much about a purely Australian scene.

If there is a lack of one, do you think it would be viable to start one up post-release?

Cybergamer (www.cybergamer.com.au) are running an AUD $3000 SC2 ladder post-release.

There's also a sizeable tourney coming whenever the next phase of the beta starts. deL's taking care of it.

And this is only semi-related, but I pretty much came into the SC scene the same way it sounds like you came to TL - from another game, specifically an FPS. From what I've found, the community's pretty generous and welcoming.

At any rate they're more sociable than the fuckwits that still play CS, so you might as well hang around for that reason alone.

Played a season of CEVO in CS:S (not CEVO-P) and it was an awful experience, they were all dickheads who thought they were so good at a game until they lost and suddenly it was either A) Lag B) Hacks or C) Misclicking/mouse problems.

Not to mention they are elitists who cant play anyway

Would love to see some stuff happen around Sydney. I've never really been into esports before, and am kinda new to the SC scene, but the TL community seems very friendly and welcoming. Suppose I'll keep on eye on this thread for any developments.

From Cybergamer website:

It's that easy: if you are from Geelong, Ballarat or Shepparton you are set to compete in a ferociously fun eSports competition. If you live elsewhere, perhaps you should hassle your local game centre to contact us to find out how to get involved!

Seems they meant Victoria, not Queensland!

The communty is actually pretty damn large, especially considering the game is still in beta, there's been two major tournies so far (transtasman and cybergamer's mar sara trials), cybergamer got like 120 people participating.

The scene is shaping up to be really good, and to be honest, not very strong in terms of competition, basically at the moment you just have to hope the community doesnt get split by this stupid SEA crap :\

edit: also the $3000 comp is anywhere you can get a participating net cafe, so if you want to play it in Sydney, go around to net cafes asking if they'd be interested in participating (basically free money since people who otherwise wouldn't go there will pay to go there to participate in it)

The community will be good I think, but when it comes to traditional events like wcg, WCG Australia will continue to suck ass as it has always done..hopefully we get more good sponsors/organisers stepping up to the plate with well-run tournaments. On US server.

P.S. please for the love of god don't segregate us blizzard

QFT.

I'd like to get into the competitive side this time around with SC2, gonna need to mass up some games though - that said my 2's partner and I did quite well during beta p1.

Blizzard hates us we can't get a healthy SC scene even if we try, I've given up pending release.

It's really easy to keep competition up assuming you get all the players on the one server with chat rooms. A few websites out there like cybergamer and TL where you can meet up and publicise events. Just host some long-term tournies. Either a regular single or double elimination tour held every weekend, or a state competition, or a team competition, etc.

As long as it's frequent it will get people socialising and motivated to practice. Something like the GB&Ire tourneys by Flicky or SC1's SoO.
