First of all. I DONT have a beta account and only can fight against multiple AI to satisfy my hunger for SC2 (Why the shop i preorder collector's is not Amazon/Gamestop???)

I came across this idea when i played T yesterday.it is a Ghost-based harass that is not only about shooting the poor workers...(heck, Labour's Day now...)Since I do not have a beta key, I hope someone can help me confirm with the effectiveness of such way of harass.

This tatics is based on the EMP of ghosts, which drains 100 Shield and 100% of Energy. It is especially good against T and P, and to a lesser extent, Zerg. I am not sure whether there is a similar post or not but I cant find a similar one...

TvT:
Send a couple of ghosts to enemy's Orbital Command using Medivac. Check OC energy level. If it is not empty, EMP it and maybe pick off some workers before retreating ( I know it is ambiguous, but this heavily depends on the skill level of your opponents and how much you think it is worthy to EMP an OC). By doing so, enemy will not be able to call down MULE/Supply/Scan for a period of time. For every MULE, the controller of the MULE will be able to earn about 240 Minerals (for nearest patch of normal min patches) if i get it correct. So, you can effectively 'destroy' up to 1k minerals that your opponents can possibly gain within a short time span (not actually destroy but slow down the gathering process) and that is equivalent of 20 Marines or 10 Marauders (not considering the cost of vespene gas) Ghost can be used to EMP enemy Ravens and Medivac as well.

Same thing. EMP the Nexi/Nexus to drain the energy for Chrono Boost to Slow down the production/research. Moreover, u can one-shot Probes now since they have only 20 HP and 0 Shield. It is good as Ghost and mix well with your army by EMP HT/DT/Immortals/Sentries etc.

EMP the Queen. However, I think if you kill the queen will be better and more effective. I would rather snipe Infestors though, since they have only 90 HP

Summary: It is a tatics using Ghost to slow down enemy production and create an advantage in the size of army through economic warfare. It works well in the lower level play since ppl tends to have more energy due to the poor mamagement of resources(macro)
Downside is :Ghost costs lots of gas...

Get a beta account, and you'll discover why this won't work.

Early Zergling harass/stalkers just wandering past blinking into your base/terran walling off and scanning whenever their scv's randomly get sniped will put this to bed.

It is not a rush but i just thought i would be a nice addition to all the harassing tatics

The Ghost do not need cloak since u can just EMP and go...even an upgrade of energy will work better

Only problem i see is the time it takes to get the ghost and a medivac, by that time 1 or 2 emps on a nexus/oc or whatever probably wont do much damage compared to the money you spent on teching. Could be kinda useful to include a ghost in a drop with a bunch of marines or something else mid/late game. But even then that ghost would be more effective in the front lines emping an army i would think.

Interesting idea at the least ^_^

Consider the risk and the effort you have to invest versus the potential gains. A competent player will have low energy on their macro abilities anyway, so at best you can slow down 1 cycle - at the risk of losing a drop ship, a ghost and forgetting your own macro in the process. Plus you won't have that ghost with your army, and thus you will risk losing battles.

If you can freely drop into the enemy's base drop something that actually does damage and costs you little - like hellions for example.

This won't work vs. higher-skilled players since they will always be keeping their energy low.

Secondly, I haven't been able to see a use for ghosts in TvT. You need to invest resources into a ghost academy and the ghost, as well as somehow getting your medivac into their base and hope that they missed a Mule/Scan. I would much rather just be dropping a thor or other attacking units if I can get a medivac safely in there. At least those units have more use throughout the matchup.

If the energy level is low, you can always choose to snipe/attack workers since ghost has bonus against light units.
BTW, ghosts can be useful in TvT for EMPing Medivac(thus MMM becoms MM) or Raven (A raven with no seeker missle, PDD, Turret can do nothing other than detector)

I'm very happy that you're putting in the thought to propose ideas that we haven't thought of before, but unfortunately I don't think that this one knocks it out of the park =(.

The reason why is that since harrass is a risky business as it is, the chances of failure of harassing with a ground unit by the time that you can get your first Ghost out (and even more so after Cloak is fully researched a good minute or two after that), you may not kill enough probes to take that 150/150 away from your opponent before he can do the same to you by killing the Ghost.

For most people ABOVE copper they wont let their energy get above 50 (Terr), 50 (Toss), or 25 (Zerg) unless they're saving for something.

Rather than doing a BO for this specfic harass, it should be something you have the opportunity to do when you plan on getting ghosttech allready.
Fx emp on a queen with ~20 energy on a player with good macro who keeps the extra larvae bonus up, maybe it wont do that much, but it will screw up his macro rotation. Also flying in with a ghoster sniping 1or2 drones doesnt seem like a bad idea to me imo (;

Guys, think about how epic dropship EMP harass would be on TvP.
Same way you'd use your hellions or w/e. Just drop a ghost, use emp on sentries/nexi. and leave
And also use your sniper round on a probe or w/e haha

would be a pimp move i guess to open banshee harass -> ghost drop/emp cc -> mass cloaked banshee. Dont really see it working in other matchups though.

agree -- i think the EMP targets that the op proposes is a great idea, but i don't think it'd be worth it to be a serious harrassment.

Off topic but why wouldn't you just cancel your original preorder and preorder from somewhere that'll give you a beta key? I think the few minutes it would take you to get that done would be worth playing the beta for 2 months.
