Do you use Rivatuner in increase your fan speed for graphic intensive applications such as Starcraft 2?
Would you reccomend doing so all the time for an nVidia 8800GT that idles at 160ish F and 170ish when I have applications (like starcraft 2) running.
I'm thinking that something around 160ish is alright, but I want good and I dont't want to have to turn on RT everyime before I play SC2 so a good percentage to the keep the fan would be at 60%ish.
What do you think (preferably those with experience, I have almost none).

More important is your ambient environment, the cards themselves usually can handle their fan speeds just fine. Are you running a desktop or laptop?
Also, I assume you are playing on ultra settings?

160f(71c) is pretty high for an idle temp, but as long as your load temps are fine( <=90c ) I wouldn't worry.
There is nothing wrong with increasing your temp through riva tuner, but one thing to note. Unless you also set riva tuner to automatically increase the fan speed as temp rises you could cause an overheating issue, if 60% isnt enough one day. I don't know how to do this offhand, but I think there are guides on guru3d. You could also just set it at 100%, which would be best, but its also awfully loud.
EDIT: A more involved method of dropping temps would be to replace the thermal compound. This might sound pretty intimidating but its actually very easy and can drop temps by 10c or more. I use an aftermarket thermal interface material on every cpu/gpu I buy.

I recommend that you raise it to 100% if it's getting that hot, but the fan would probably be an annoyance because of how loud it is. It's usually no problem if you wear headphones but I've had experiences with some extremely loud fans before.

So I have a pny nvidia 9800 gt graphics card. The fan started dying on me. I ordered a arctic cooling accelero l2 pro and once I installed it found the fan did not work at all. I contacted the company I ordered it from along with arctic cooling.
The response I got from arctic cooling was that my bios needed to be set up to run the fan. So my questions come from that.
What do I do in the bios for the fan to work? Is this true or is the fan just defective? I would hate for my old fan which I put back in to go to crap and leave me with no sc2.
Sorry for bumping an old post but there are few sites i go to and this happens to be one and I am still waiting on the 3 day grace period to make a new thread.
Trump Don't you play any games anymore?
sorry I'll be quiet now and hope for a response from someone that may know the answer to my question.

100 degree Celsius is the max safe temp for this video card. However, you probably don't want to be running that hot. The temps you're getting now are absolutely fine. Increasing your fan speed in Rivatuner wouldn't hurt, but don't feel like you need too.
What brand of video card do you have? If you dig up the manual, you can see where it states the max safe temperature.
